Hi All
Does anyone know if the Dunhill lighter that is engraved and used by Bond is a plain silver plater "unique" lighter or the solid silver version with hallmarking on the reverse.
Keen to acquire one and get hit engraved but want to get the right one.
Thanks

It’s a plain dunhill unique with a plate of engraved silver stuck on the side.

Wow, looks like the real thing to me!
Great stuff, I hope that you adjusted the flame accordingly 😁
I'm planning on getting Robert Davi to sign it in July, so I'd best not, don't want history to repeat itself, especially without a stunt double

Sounds cool :)
Fantastic replica...and, with the engraving aligned properly, better than the original!!! Great job, Simon. --Ed

You're freeWHEELing with puns now, which is fine, I pardon you, until they go wrong.
Filthy habit.
This is comedy gold, Mr Bond.
I've been wanting a replica of this for some time and thought the best option was just a regular Dunhill lighter. B549WUU - would you mind sharing some of the steps involved in achieving the final product? (Such as where to obtain the silver plating, is there a specific font I need to request for engraving, etc.?) I absolutely love how it looks.
And did you get it signed by Mr Davi?
Probably not, he cancelled his appearance at the convention…
As Smithers500 stated he fell out with Showmasters as I understand it. How is billed to appear at a Liverpool convention in November so hoping to catch him there.

The engraving bit was easy enough. I purchased a 0.4mm thick annulled silver plate to the correct measurements (actually bought several thicknesses to find the right one) and then approached an engraver (I have a fantastic one near me who has about 2000 fonts and was able to match it based on several screen captures.
I then glued the plate the the lighter with Jeweller’s glue.
The challenge was finding the right lighter. This one is silver but has not striping or barley effect (very common). The side the plate sits on has hallmarking which I suspect is why the original prop also had an engraved plate on it.
I now have the same engraver working on a printed silver plaque to sit alongside in a wooden presentation box (the original lighter box as per the film is not very inspiring) which I then hope to get Robert Davi (and perhaps someday Timothy Dalton) to sign.
I will post more pictures of the finished article with presentation box shortly.

Ah that's a shame. Good luck with Liverpool though!
Yes good luck with it B549WUU, and remember: when his minder asks you to pay for the autograph, tell them that loyalty is more important to him than money…
I love this…

Thanks to you all for your feedback. I thought I’d show it in its presentation box with the plaque for signing. It’ll have liked a silver plaque to match the lighter but was prohibitively expensive.

Holy crap that looks fantastic!
PERFECT display, Simon!!! Well done. --Ed
