They are, but I'd say they've always been careful that you don't actually have to seen the previous movies to follow them. Not sure how that will work with the next two though!
Interestingly they make a clear link between the reinvention and the actor they choose saying that the actor has to be someone who is "right" for that reinvention. For me, I think the word espionage, Babs has used previously about the reinvention, is an indicator. I think espionage means intelligent, detective Bond, not brute force Daniel Craig Bond.
Perhaps most importantly they talk about an actor who can commit to 10-12 years as Bond. Four movies then? And they reference to it being a big commitment and that is was a big commitment for DC in his thirties, when asked about Idris Elba, so I think that is another clue the new actor will be nearer 30. But they do say young actors don't understand the commitment. I am guessing by young they mean in their 20s.
I hear that Skyfall has been rereleased, they're really going out rereleasing all the favourite films in the run up to James Bond Day on 5 October.
Given how Barbara has been harping on about the 'beauty' of Craig's arc, despite it being a total shambles narratively, doesn't inspire much confidence this 'reinvention' is going to be anything particularly nuanced.
They were uninterested in sitting back and planning out the Craig era, because no matter what they say now, it was never intended to be a continuous storyline.
This makes me think, for all their pretentions, their idea for 'reinvention' will probably just turn out to be as basic as changing Bond's ethnicity, as the optics of it would allow them to present Bond as being relevant and quell the notion he's an outdated character.
We may get more info on the "reinvention" with the British Film Institute's Bond at 60 event next weekend.
"Taking place from September 30th-October 2nd at BFI Southbank and BFI IMAX, James Bond at 60 will be headlined by an in-conversation event with producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli"
Purvis & Wade are part of the reinvention Babs Broccoli confirms to Empire magazine. Oddly the reinvention process is referred to as something yet to start yet in the past its been indicated that its already begun. The article also mentions again the height of an actor, so that suggests that is important and does rule out people like Tom Hardy.
Twenty-somethings ruled out by Mike Wilson at BFI event, He makes it clear Bond has to be in his 30s and has to have had some life experience so I guess a young looking 30 year old is also unlikely. Having been a believer in the idea of a younger actor and the early 30s being a maximum in the likely age of the new Bond I think that is probably wrong now and we're looking at someone who looks like their age and they are going to be 35-ish if not nearer 40.
Thanks for that. I think a lot if people in the audience were hoping for a big reveal, but once Babs dropped out that was never going to happen. So, all we get is tidbits like that in Deadline.
In a way this is the first real news we get about Bond26. Tall and in his mid-30s is the traditional image of Bond, I'd say. It also indicates they're not going for another origin story, and I think that's a good thing.
I don't know about Purvis and Wade. In a way I wanted a clean slate, but they are capable of a dramatic re-invention as we saw in CR.
I agree Number24, I think the origin story idea is out. During Bab's & Mike's recent interviews they have said that they are focusing on the villain. Perhaps it is who Bond is against that will be an important key to this reinvention?
I think having a good villain with a good motivation is always important from Goldfinger to Drax to 006/Janus. I think we're going to get a Bond fully formed and already a 00, just as we did with Dr No. Hopefully the PTS will rival TLD for introducing a new Bond.
They have also used the word espionage when referring to the reinvention and so with our real world recent history being about subversion of elections and political parties allying themselves with hostile foreign powers along with hybrid warfare, I am thinking detective Bond, mole hunts and devious politicians/industrialists.
I know I'm stating the bleeding obvious, but apart from their wondering which direction to take, actor, director, plot etc. I'm sure BB/MGW are just waiting a couple of years for the world to settle down a bit!
I don't think you're stating the obvious. It's possible EON are waiting for things to settle down, but it's just speculation and far from being obvious fact at this time. Or should I disagree in a more agreeable way? 🤔

😂😂😂 You're applying for the jobs of Purvis & Wade?
A member of the other place suggested a title for Bond26: 🤣
The golden casino of tomorrow with not enough diamonds.
If Elordi gets the gig, Omega will have to buy out his contract to TAG 😉

Great comment! And also a very fine choice of favorite Bonds. 👍️👍️
"- That is something to be afraid of."
I won't be buying TAG's, I'll say that much. (Well, maybe a Night Diver but only if they upgrade the movement....)
Elordi has just been cast as Elvis in a movie.
A bit off-topic but that’s why I hate the modern film industry:
There‘s a big Elvis-movie that came out JUST NOW and they make another (unrelated) one…

Check it out, you won’t be disappointed
That can only mean
I haven't dared watch that one yet @Barbel - but watch out - you never know....
My advice is simple- don't!!!
I'm really bad a t taking good advice 😄😄😄
Babs and Michael speak again on Bond, reinvention and what actor they would choose.

That‘s what I fear, too. They‘ll just come around in a year or two and say that Bond is black now and that’s the innovation…

Although I think I read that Ms Broccoli can't make it now..?
Yes that's correct. It's Purvis & Wade instead.
Hopefully the presence of Purvis & Wade will see more said about this reinvention and whether they are involved.

Yes, I was at the BFI event. I think a vow of silence had been taken.

I guess this is bad news for Jacob Elordi, or at least fans of him becoming Bond.
