At the risk of incurring your wife's wrath, these really are worth the money and that is a great price. And the only other place I've seen the Chestnut is on END for $200 and some European sites for around $180. I've worn my Snuff color ones a ton since I got them a couple of years ago. Some of my favorite shoes now.
This thread remains the most expensive to look at on the internet... 😁
So they really are that comfortable? I have a slight issue with my heels which means I need the comfiest shoes I can get- Nike Airs are pretty much my go-to but it's hard to find anything vaguely smart which offers as much comfort.
For me, they're very comfortable. The last has a wider forefoot, so there is plenty of room. But I still feel like my mid-foot and heel are snug. So no movement or heel rub. For cushioning, the natural crepe sole does a great job. I have two pairs of Astorflex (suede chelseas and the Dukeflex) and I can wear either for a day walking around the city with no problems. And I'm 52 years old, so my arches and knees ain't what they used to be. 😂.
As for quality, I've had the Chelseas for almost 5 years now and wear them a lot. Only now are they starting show some wear at the heel. And absolutely no problems with the stitiching, suede or lining. The quality of the Chelseas was the main reason I jumped on the Dukeflex when they were on sale at Huckberry a few years ago, No regrets so far!
I saw your Best Alternative, and just had to push the button. It arrived today, and is bloody gorgeous! I will take pics when I have a moment, but thanks for the heads-up!
Clearly this one isn't remotely Bond related. But, being Canadian myself, I feel like the Cowichan is an important piece of knitwear that deserves some attention. This is one of those longer "research" articles I occassionally write, where I go way further down the rabbit hole than I originally intended. So I discuss the history of Cowichan and it's significance to the Coast Salish First Nation people, I speak with a Granted, a maker of contemporary Cowichan inspired sweaters, about their process, take a look at the Cowichan style sweaters in popular culture (The Dude!) and, of course, share plenty of alternatives. Hope you guys enjoy it!
Sorry for the wierd link, but the site isn't letting me post them. Just copy the URL between the XXs. Anyway, I do think the Banana Republic suit has a more screen accurate look. But this one is also cheap for an "inspired by" suit and they have plenty of sizes in stock.
I don't plan on dressing like Benoit Blanc in Glass Onion. No two-piece seersucker bathing suits for me! (Although it's arguably better than the GF terrycloth onesie.)
But I'm really taken with the salmon pink shirt Blanc wears arriving on the island, especially how well the color and texture work with a spot of light blue and light khaki, and wonder if anyone has come across an alternative (the shirt was custom made for the film by Anton, from what I gather).
If anyone has seen that River Island option in person, do you happen to know if the shearling collar comes off? I can't tell from the photos or product description and River Island hasn't answered my email.
For anyone looking for an affordable alternative to Orlebar Brown's Towelling Onesie, this light blue Terry Romper from City Beach retails for just $79.99 and is currently 25% off.
Great spot. Managed to bag one of those thanks. Not sure I could have ever justified the OB version as not sure I’d use it all. But this fine is worth the investment. Thanks
What sort of sizes are you guys taking in these Astorflex? I've gone a size down and they still feel a little roomy, and the laces can't go any tighter.
I didn't size down or anything just went for my normal size UK 8 (42 EU) , I did recently buy some Paraboots Michael's and I did have to size down with to 7.5 UK and I have the laces pulled tight even sizing down bit pot look to be honest .
Think I've found a decent alternative to Lazenby's OHMSS Piz Gloria smock. I know it's missing the waist cord and two pockets, but the colours decent and it has a nice main pocket on the front. Can't grumble at the price either lol 😀
I quite fancied one of those, but a mate of mine has something similar and seeing the pain that he has having to pull it on and off all the time like a jumper made me realise I really don't want one 😁
at the request of their customer it was made a 3 roll 2 suit but if you ordered and then just emailed them they could make it a three button and tailor it to be very tight in the chest if you’re looking for 100% accuracy.
Baron’s team is lovely to work with, they have great communication, give you a muslin test suit, and it’s full canvas rather than half canvas for essentially the same price as those indochino suits.
Apologies for the radio silence the last couple of weeks. I'm actually working on a major overhaul of the website (new theme and design, some new functionality, better layout in mobile, etc.), so that ate up a lot of time. The new version should be ready to launch around Feb 16th and now that things are in the hands of the design team I'll be getting back to the content creation. Speaking of which ...
I'm looking at adding a couple of different content streams in the next month or so. One idea is a twice monthly newsletter that would highlight sales and deals and some other cool stuff I find when I'm searching the internet. Basically things I think are interesting and relevant, but don't fit into a typical post on the website. The other is videos, mainly product reviews. I'm not quite sure about the actual format of those yet, so I'd love to hear from you folks what you'd like to see.
Any thoughts, opinions or suggestions on those ideas?
I think it sounds great, I love the bond content but sometimes the sales and 5 things I want are more off the beaten path, and lure me to something I wouldn’t have found before. I look forward to the redesign and good luck!
$27 with free shipping for this SUPER frugal white cardigan (even though it's more stone/Nike grey than white)
It's from Temu, and I don't know if the free shipping promo always happens or not. But a reverse Google Image search shows this Cardigan selling on Walmart (3rd party sellers) for $40-$50
This caught my eye because it reminds me a lot of (especially in black) the Urban Outfitters shawl cardigan from several years ago (late 2016-early 2017) that was on clearance for $20.
@canoe2 welcome back! Looking forward to the site redesign. More reviews are welcome, regardless of whether you do it in text or by video. So many things that I wish reviews were done on!
Newsletter (even blog posts) sounds like a nice idea as well. The Redford cardigan\Pendleton Westerley\Paul Newman wet paint shirt posts were fun to read and good style inspiration! (While the wet paint shirt is gone, the peacoat with light wash jeans look is just as classic IMO as the QoS khaki jeans look now!) The outfit is a nice variation on Bond. More articles like that would be awesome.

Brilliant stuff, thanks John. Hopefully they will arrive soon

Tell your wife not to hate me ... 😁
Agreed. In the uk they were £159 but you could get 10% off with free P&P so extremely good value

Great, thanks for the tip! I've taken the plunge 😊
I have two pairs of these shoes (not in Brown) and they're the comfiest shoes I own like a pair of slippers .

I'm looking forward to them, thank you.
My pleasure, Blair! Needles usually makes amazing pieces, so I'm glad it met expectations. Look forward to seeing the photos of it "in the wild!"

Thanks, I've just had to order my third pair (!) to hope to get a fit. Might give up if these don't work.
