Triumph Scrambler NTTD project

So as a Bond and bike fan it was great to once again see 007 on 2 wheels...

The recent bikes in QoS and SF obviously didn't lend themselves to daily life and roads in the UK.

But a Scrambler definitely does, I've just retired and need to face up to facts I can't ride superbikes forever, or so I thought..

But

Somehow (and I'm glad I did) I missed out on both LE launches (Scrambler / Tiger). Why? Because a LE would eat at my ("should I be adding miles") brain and sit in my garage.

So after many calls around many dealers, Paul at Triumph Leeds was as passionate as me about how we get a close replica of the Bike 007 uses around Matera...

This all started in December and has progressed in different stages... Once pics are avbl I'll post updates.

As we stand now, we have a donor bike, stripped, and lots of parts about to go to Image Design of Camberley (who did some work on the NTTD bikes) for customisation...

I am really looking forward to following this.

In my planning on what to do in 2023, I was thinking of doing a similar thing, with the caveat that I also need to learn how to ride.

    Please keep us posted.

    Lots of parts arriving...

A few tough decisions - this will be a road bike and the film bikes were stripped down with no MOT or road safety in mind.

So whilst I want it close I also need it to be road legal and usable. So indicators , mirrors etc will have to vary from screen accurate (just adding small or stylish parts).

2 weeks today the tank, fr and rear mudguards, headlight brackets, sump guard and headlight grill will go to IDC for anodising black and custom spray work.

Michelin Anakee Wild knobblies on order

Plus a priv Reg with a loose 007 connection.

As a 30 year biker, and some light racing, I'd probably steer away from a 1200 xe as a first ride. Not so much power but the height and weight.

But defo go for 2 wheel fun / life, it will change your life for the better.

That’s pretty nice just as a starting point!

    Added -

    Triumph connectivity modules

    Multifunction LED lights / Indicators

    Small bar end mirrors

    Slash cut exhaust

    Tail tidy

    Heated grips (for me 😂)

    High level front mudguard

    Headlight grille

    Handlebar brace

    Carbon heel plates

    Bobbins

    Private reg

    Knobbly Anakee Wild tyres

    Removed

    Handguards

    Fork guards

    Mirrors

    Grab rail

    Mudguards

One thing I'm going to refrain from is changing the fork colour from gold to black (for now). Big job and gets mixed results... Down the line Showa will be releasing black replacement fork legs so may go for it then. Triumph won't supply them as they are protective of the Limited Edition blacked out looks.

Going to tie in the gold with the knee pad edging in gold and maybe a subtle 007 / Bond 25 logo in gold on the tank opposite the fuel cap...

Next up is the painting in 2 weeks, but a 3 week job as about 15 layers to go on the tank

As an amateur racer and track day loon on superbikes, the Scrambler is a hoot to ride. Very different but fun nonetheless.

Road trip around bonnie Scotland as a break in for it hopefully.

Finally some positive news after COVID hit the painters and some other out of control stuff.

Paintwork just in final polish stage.

Hopefully in next 2 weeks all will be completed.

Been a long slog, nearly QoS tie levels 😂

    Pics to follow

Really happy with led indicator choice. Motogadgets make some mini led style, but these look classier and rear ones are multifunction...

    Exhaust is REALLY loud.

Tank, seat, bar end mirrors, exhaust guards and a few other bits left to do...

    Things moving very quickly today...

Think the forks will need to be black to be right. Pipes will colour up with use. But really happy with rest

Hoot to ride. Looks incredible next to normal spec Scramblers, just the forks to do over the winter...
