This is a favourite scene for me from the movie Max Manus (2008). Manus is part of a sabotage unit fighting the Germans in WWII, His "white whale" is the ship Donau that transports soldiers to Norway and prioners to the consentration camps on the return voyage. This scene i happened in real life. It's Christmas eve and Max Manus is on a train to the neutral Sweden, obviously equipped with fake ID. He starts chatting with a German soldier. It becomes German soldier knows only a few Norwegian phrases. While Max speaks some German he switches to Norwegian as he becomes personal: Max Manus clip - we are going to win - YouTube (English subtitles)
I'm sure everyone is following the winter Olympics that's going on in the great winter sports nation of China right now. You're probably asking yourself: Why are the Norwegians winning so many medals? Here are the best alternative facts (in English) explaining why. 😂
Regina Spektor's version of "While my guitar gently weeps" from the fantastic stop-motion movie "Kubo and the two strings". More about the movie later. This is from the drawn end-credits sequence, but the music is the main thing now.
The risk of avalanches is high in this county this Easter. A man accidentally started one, but fortunately he managed to stay "afloat". He captured it all on his bodycam while a friend of his caught it on camera from a distance. Here it is:
I've been getting into watching reaction channels to films. One of the channels i have found, is Popcorn In Bed. They are two Canadian sisters living in tbe US, who watch films in bed and react to what's going on. Some of the reactions are hysterical! Especially the jump scares.
They are reacting to Bond. They released a video reacting to Live And Let Die. Here is the playlist.
I watched the whole thing as it drew me in from the start. It's always nice to see fresh reactions to films one is overly familiar with. It helps you see with fresh eyes the red herrings and false directions Guy Hamilton in particular was good at layering his films with. I'll have to watch more of their Bond film reactions later. Definitely a fun and informative watch. John Lazenby though? I kept hearing them say "John" and I wondered who they were referring to!
"The tough man of the world. The Secret Agent. The man who was only a silhouette." - Ian Fleming, Moonraker (1955).
In their defence @Silhouette Man They aren't fans of the series and they are watching the films for the first time. They are bound to get the odd name wrong. Thier TSWLM reaction was great as well. They enjoyed that one. They hate Jaws, though. It's a shame that they are doing 2 from each actor, apart from Daniel Craig. They are doing all five of his films. They have done 2 of Roger's films, so it's a shame that they aren't doing Moonraker, as they would've seen a different side to Jaws.
They are doing Dalton's films noe and the video for TLD has been released.
Have you ever heard of the Emancipation Proclamation?"
Thanks for the tip about "Popcorn in bed". I've never followed any movie reactions channels before. The girl(s) reactions are fun and seem real. People in this type of channels often seem to perform for the camera. The worst example I can think of are reactions by GoT fans to the red wedding in GoT. You're fans of GoT and had no idea what was about to happen? Really?
"Popcorn in bed" has a (to me) shocking lack of movie watching experience, but it's refreshing to see classic movies through fresh eyes. They call Bond's quips "dad jokes" (😲) and some of their comments are gold. "Don't throw your spear away - you seem to need it! (300) or "it really ties the room together...." (On the carpet that gets stolen in Godfather 2) 😃
But some of their comments are comments are on the point and thoughtful too.
A short video about WWII rescue buoys made by both Germans and the British to help downed pilots in the Engliash channel stay alive until help arrived. The buoys had beds, radios, rations, water, first aid kits, dry clothes and even cigarettes, board games, chocolate, cognac and more! I think it would fit well in a James Bond novel set in WWII. Imagine Bond (and probably a beautiful woman) escaping from occupied France in a plane or small boat that sinks near one of these buoys.
It does. Using these strange inventions that most people haven't heard about before is perfect for Bond. The London post office railway in the Young Bond novel "Double or die " is an example of this. I consider myself above average knowledgeable about WWII, but I had no idea about the rescue buoys before I saw the video.

I found this short film titled "Cake bomb" browsing the IMDB entry of Renate Reinsve who many belive will be an international star some day.

That brings to mind Bond and Anya in Stromberg's escape pod at the end of TSWLM too!
