Minor glitches

chrisno1chrisno1 LondonPosts: 3,704MI6 Agent

This has started a couple of days ago. I used to have a 'clean' home board where all the discussion categories would show a NEW logo if I had missed a post and not viewed it. I don't read everything, but I check each post / thread just to keep the main board clean. When I click on a sub-cat, I used to see topics highlighted in blue to indicate I needed to view a new post. This is no longer happening for every post, although it does for some, and I have recently had to physically read the date / time of a post to discover it is new. Additionally, I now find the NEW logo above a sub-cat doesn't always disappear, even if I have read each new topic. Am I alone in this ?

Unfortunately you are not alone…I’ve also had issues with the NEW logo still showing even though I’ve read that post…but that’s been a fairly long-standing issue 🤔

I've noticed the NEW logo above the sub-chats not disappearing when you click on the threads and look at the new replies but I don't think I've noticed the other thing you mention. Is it possible that you have accidentally hit the "Mark All Viewed" option at the top of the forum? If you do this inadvertently it clears all the new reply notifications and the highlighting of the threads with new replies. I know I've done that before now by mistake.

It’s not a “Mark All Viewed” issue - although, like yourself, I’ve done that before 🙈

It's when the ‘home screen’ can show NEW in a category but when clicked upon, the sub-category doesn’t highlight the new posts with NEW… 🤔

Yes, it was just a suggestion - thought it might be wrong. I've seen it doing the opposite - still showing NEW in a sub-forum even when all the "new post" threads have already been clicked.

I'm finding it is doing both - I get no highlighted topics when I click on a sub-cat marked NEW - I clear all the new topics highlighted or not and the NEW logo doesn't disappear, although this only seems to occur randomly. At the moment, for me, sub-cat Bond 26 permanently has the NEW mark next to it, but I have viewed every 'new' post.

Could it be something to do with the site's cookies not clearing perhaps? I'm not technically minded at all but just something that came to mind.

    Could be 🤷🏻‍♂️

But it’s also way above my technical expertise 🤗

Now, for some reason, the most recent post in Bond 26 is from February 18. Clearly not correct.

That particular thread is often edited by the OP…that is probably the cause of that glitch.

When a forum shows a topic as having a new entry, and I go to the forum, the newest entry, which I have no clicked on, is marked as read (e.g., does not have the "new" tag)

  • BarbelBarbel ScotlandPosts: 38,390Chief of Staff

    Yes, I get that too.

Hi, I get error messages if I try to post all links, seemingly. At least I tried linking to a Reddit post, an instagram post and a shop's website, and all say 'Request failed with status code 500' when I press enter.

  • BarbelBarbel ScotlandPosts: 38,390Chief of Staff

I haven't heard this one. Has anyone else come across this problem?

That’s a new one on me too 🤔

I’ve been told it could be an error your end…and you need to reload the page…but I’m no expert, sorry

Yes I have reloaded the page, shut my computer down etc. a few times since three days ago.

I just tried to copy and paste the address from a window with Sainsburys' page open; can you paste that link if you try? I think if I manually write it it will work: sainsburys.co.uk (random I know but the first thing which came to mind)

It seems to have something to do with the way the forum tries to render a sort of preview image for some links, as it did with that link to this page I posted above.

It's just done it with me too when I went to insert a web link and then hit return from the bottom of the link to make it show up. I was met with this:

I was still able to post the link as a hyperlink but it wouldn't allow me to hit return so it could show up fully as a tab.

Thanks @Barbel. It's a minor thing so there's no rush on it.
