Bond 26 -
Hello everyone - I'm newbie so, pls - give me a few days before cutting my hot water if I say something you don't like.
I've always liked watching James Bond but, only in the last 3-4 years have I become a huge fan - I do a James Bond spoof series - pretty well good - and - I'll share the link with you guys if some you want to see.
So, on with business. I think there are 2 options for the next James Bond. You will find option 2 interesting.
Option 1 is to simply have another actor "just be" James Bond - without rebooting the whole thing - start if off with lots of action - needs to retrieve a scientist in a hostile country that is working on some sort of covid variant - goes there - car equipped with full of gadgets and hell rains on the place. This will establish the person who's got big shoes to fill!
Option 2 is the continuity of Bond 25. James Bond is found in the waters - PRACTICALLY dead but, not so. He's burned all over and - 4 years have passed - his face looks different, even his voice is different and, the stories go on with the new fierce style that Daniel Craig brought to the screen. I guess it could be called "You Only Live Thrice"... heh-heh.
In any case - I can't wait for the next instalment! You guys be safe!

thats not such a bad title and it makes sense. Life 1 would be Connery through Brosnan, and Life 2 would be CraigBond. Life 3 is all new, none of he above
personally I'd like to see more of Life 1, but your suggested title and implications are clever so I'd be interested to see what they did with it
Option 2 also requires that he be 'cured' of the nanobots that would kill off his family tree.
I think we're gonna get Option 3: a complete reboot of the series but with a true origin film to kick things off. Where Craig's CASINO ROYALE took care of his 'origin' in the PTS, I think the new origin film will end with Bond becoming 007. I also think they're going to hire someone for Bond who can play the role for ~20 years and build an actual universe around him, modeling things after the MI or BOURNE series but with more panache, style, and prestige in order to keep things distinctly 'Bond'.
Discovering how Bond gets his 00 status can be done, but I just hope they won't try to build a whole story around it. A good villain, an interesting threat and other parameters like these are much more important plotwise. Prequels and origin stories seem to have become an overused formula, and perhaps it's time for Hollywood to question themselves from a creative point of view.
CR06 is a very good movie because this "first mission" and Bond's lack of experience don't prevent the audience from enjoying a good plot (Fleming's novel helps a lot). The last three films mainly focus on Bond, and if it's the same for the next iteration of the character, it will become frustrating because Fleming and Cubby always kept in mind Bond remains more than everything a spy On Her/His Majesty's Secret Service.
The YOLT novel and a movie like LTK are special and enjoyable precisely because they are RARE within their respective universe. In more than 80% cases, Bond is not the centre of gravity of the plot, and how refreshing it would be to have Bond 26 focusing on geopolitics and espionage again after a disappointing decade.
@caractacus potts I also prefer Life 1 but I'm afraid they'll never use it anymore. Even having Tracy mentioned would be enough to me...
CR pretty much started the origin story that's been so much in fashion, but I think the audience are getting tired of it. Maybe the Bond series can do another version of it some day, but they should'nt do it again in this decade.
@Number24 yes but it was very light in CR. Except the PTS and some lines from M, the heart of the plot is built around the mission itself and the global stakes involving Le Chiffre, like in the novel. That's what makes CR a classic, while the last three movies mainly focus on Bond through personal items like doubts, loyalty, shadows from the past, family legacy.
For those who prefer genuine spy thrillers, it's not always easy to find enjoyment when the same pattern is being repeated film after film. The most significant example is their choice to create a link between the main villain and Bond or some people of his entourage. They could have done it once, but thrice in a row is little bit excessive to quote Bond in Skyfall. Do you see my point ?
Yes. and I agree with you.
Sorry - guys - posted a link where I should not - really don't want to be a nuisance - thanks for all your comments and I will be reading more and more of your threads which are super interesting!
Probably best to start your own thread with these rather than crash a different thread 🙂
Ok - will just remove - my apologies!
No need to apologise at all…just start your own thread…🙂
Personally, I feel Craig completed his 'circle' well; from becoming a Double-O in 'Casino Royale' to - we've all seen it, right? Well... Either they can give us a reboot with a thirty-something with some mileage ahead of him or... "As Bond watched the fiercy arcs tracing his fate, he looked down - but wait! There, it looked like... Blofeld's Batho-Sub! And in the nick of time!" and we all have to pretend the thirty-something guy is the fifty-five year old man we saw making his watery escape at the end of 'No Time To Chat - I need a Wee!' (The stampede was a close-run thing; I saw the film at the Connaught Theatre, Worthing, forgetting it's mixed-sex toilets and getting confronted by a STAGGERING blonde in an evening dress as she left the cubicle, to discover me already unzipped busting to... never mind.)
Hello VolcanoCat, hope you are doing great!
The way I see it - we hadn't seen it all. Bond actually died! Did this make waves! But I agree with you for the most of the rest. Get a real young guy - beat the Bond actor record of six movies. I just don't want the Scooby-gang again to be around. Bond is a solo act. I love the 65 Astin Marton and I do lots of green screen shorts using a model but, I'm really wondering if it'll feel too way out of place now. I also don't want to see an old tired depressed betrayed on the edge Bond. I want him at peak efficiency so that he can inflict as much hurt to his enemy as possible. Sure, he'll get some obstacles that'll make the viewer feel there's no way out - but, then, his victory will be the better.
Finally and especially - I don't want a soft-reboot. I want a totally new cast. ...but...am not sure Barbara will read this specific post and agree with it...
