Ireland & Scotland Locales

Enjoying DeathEnjoying Death Toronto, ON CANADAPosts: 1,248MI6 Agent

I'll be in Ireland for a wedding & afterwards traveling to Scotland this October, and was wondering if there were any locations that are a must see while there. Particularly Bond locations. I know of a couple from Skyfall but that's about it. Thanks in advance!

The Skyfall ones are probably the best bet. You can't get into where this was shot

at Faslane, the best you can manage is to walk or drive past the not very exciting gates.

I don't know exactly where the FRWL helicopter chase was shot, only that it was on the West, but you might be able to track it down.

Edit- Sorry for the late reply, I've been on holiday.

What about that chapel in TWINE - was that in Scotland? Suppose we'll pass over the grouse shooting, haggis focused locations in Casino Royale 67.

Although Ireland hasn't featured in any of the Bond films so far it does feature briefly in Ian Fleming's Diamonds Are Forever when Bond stops at Shannon Airport. The Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland also feature as locations in John Gardner's No Deals, Mr Bond.

I'm from England, but I've visited lots of places in Scotland.

    Some of my favourites:

    • Anywhere on Loch Ness - Particularly Urquhart Castle
    • Eilean Donan Castle (Where they filmed TWINE)
    • Torridon Hills
    • Applecross Peninsula
    • Stonehaven And Dunnottar Castle
    • Edinburgh, particularly Calton Hill, Arthur's Seat, and Edinburgh Castle
    • Skye, Old Man Of Storr, Sligachan, Quiraing

Visited Ireland also, favourites there are:

    • Blarney Castle
    • The Rock Of Cashel
    • Greystones

And Giant's Causeway for Northern Ireland

In terms of Bond locations, Eilean Donan Castle might be the only one I've visited. Would like to see the Skyfall areas, were they filmed in Glencoe? (Going to Glencoe soon)

Strange, I made a lengthy post and then went to edit it and now it's disappeared?

Anyway, Eilean Donan Castle was featured in TWINE and it's a great place.

Yes, obviously you tried to edit it too quickly and fell foul of the spam filter…it’s been restored now 🙂

Hi @Jarvio, no, they were filmed in Glen Etive. I was there a few years ago, it's very recognizable.

Change of plans as we are now instead going to Liverpool and then London after the wedding in Dublin next month.

Other than the Bond in Motion exhibit in London, is there any other Bond things to see besides the set locations?

Bond in Motion has left London now I’m afraid. I think it’s in Vienna?

Well that sucks. I guess what I was looking at is outdated information then.
