We've tried not to make it more silly than real life. Today I was dressed up as a sheperd and told the classic story from his POV to kindergarden children, so I think we can allow a lot of silliness in the AJB Christmas Special! 😆

Probably just the result of Mescal getting more exposure because of the success of Gladiator II. I just saw Gladiator II and unfortunately found Mescal lacking in screen presence and charisma. Not saying the guy is terrible or a bad actor at all; he just lacks the "it" factor needed for Bond.

Not at all…the bookies are only out to part idiots from their money…their odds are exactly that…odd 😵‍💫😁

KRAVEN THE HUNTER appears to be buying a one way ticket to flop-ville. Tracking for it is terrible. That won't bode well for ATJ if he's trying to pick up some heat for the gig.

  • emtiememtiem SurreyPosts: 5,998MI6 Agent

Are they ever going to release it? They made it years ago.

  • Rip_MurdockRip_Murdock Posts: 7MI6 Agent

Kraven the Hunter? It releases December 13th in the U.S.

  • SeanIsTheOnlyOneSeanIsTheOnlyOne Posts: 541MI6 Agent

They released the first eight minutes of the film. It looks pretty average, so does ATJ.

I still don't understand the way he's been behaving for the last eight months. Craig himself said during an interview in 2005: "Apparently I'm in the running. We'll see".

Mescal talked about the franchise recently (and it wasn't because the journalist started it).

ATJ remains the ONLY actor forbidding himself to even pronounce the word "Bond" and pretending he's fed up with all those rumours. If It's just a strategy to increase his chances while there's absolutely nothing concrete, I find it pathetic for someone used to spotlight himself.

Less than two weeks away? Wow, I've seen no promotion for it since that one trailer months ago.

You can watch the first 8 minutes of Kraven here.

I would say it doesn't detract from AJT's eligibility for Bond.

I would love to know what the marketing budget on this film is. Every film I've seen in the past nearly 18 months has had a Kraven trailer before it. It even played before Wicked.

I think the opposite. I don't find him convincing at all when I watch him, although I have to admit it's the kind of character I don't give a damn to. I still think his best performance was in Bullet Train, in which he was solid but not mind blowing.

  • HarryCanyonHarryCanyon Posts: 387MI6 Agent

Check out NOCTURNAL ANIMALS. ATJ was flat out amazing in that movie. He's been solid in a lot of other films as well but his performance in NOCTURNAL ANIMALS is really something to see. He won a Golden Globe for that work.

Also, reviews are starting to hit for NOSFERATU and most of them are raves. ATJ is in that and might benefit from being attached to it, even if KRAVEN stiffs.

    I will, thanks.

The thing is, like I said previously, I don't understand why he's the only actor to stay silent and even to avoid pronouncing the very name of the character. The franchise is not a taboo topic and any actor is free to speak ! I don't imagine Barbara Broccoli suddenly deciding to cross someone off her list because the guy pronounced the two words 'James Bond' in a sentence. Once again, Craig himself commented on rumours back in 2005.

I may be wrong, but the whole thing really gives the impression ATJ only intends to capitalize on the fact his name has been associated with Bond for months while there's possibly nothing at all, and if it turns out to be another actor getting the gig, it will prove such a strategy was a complete failure.

The only rational case to explain this silence would be that the guy has already signed his contract and Broccoli asked him not to reveal anything before the official announcement. But considering the current situation (script?, director?...), I have big doubts.

I don't know what to think about his behaviour. The day of the announcement, I will either approve it or criticize it.

I think a director will get signed before Bond gets officially cast. That said, I really think Aaron Taylor-Johnson is 'reserved' by BB for the role pending the director's approval. I also suspect that ATJ really, really wants the gig and is following his directions from BB to the letter.

  • emtiememtiem SurreyPosts: 5,998MI6 Agent

That is the only film he's impressed me in though. Everything else I've seen him in he's a non-presence. He absolutely threw away the role he had in The Fall Guy, which had the potential to steal the film.

  • Rip_MurdockRip_Murdock Posts: 7MI6 Agent

If ATJ has been offered the role, it makes sense BB told him to say nothing about it.

If any film was going to promote him. It’s Nosferatu, not Kraven.

I think that looks quite fun. Certainly Bondian in places. Enough to think I could be watching the opening of Bond 26 (apart from the superhero power bits, obviously).

I think ATJ looks like an action hero in the video. We can't judge his charm, humor and ability to convey a range of emotion by it, but that was never the goal of the part of the movie we see.

  • emtiememtiem SurreyPosts: 5,998MI6 Agent

I thought it was appalling to be honest. Just got duller when the action started. I'm afraid I laughed at the weird faces ATJ was pulling to try and look cool: his first hero reveal is like a spoof of a perfume ad the amount of squinting and simmering he's trying to do. His acting in that reminded me an awful lot of Statham, but without the Stath's natural charisma.

  • HarryCanyonHarryCanyon Posts: 387MI6 Agent

...and word is great on the film itself. I'm not seeing anything calling out ATJ's performance (he's a supporting role) but, if the film is a critical and commercial success, he should be able to capitalize on it.

  • Sir MilesSir Miles The Wrong Side Of The WardrobePosts: 27,920Chief of Staff

I’ve no idea if ATJ has been asked directly about Bond…and what would you expect him to say…? If Mescal is the one mentioning Bond all over the place - then he’s not in the running 🤣

I don't know what to think about his behaviour. The day of the announcement, I will either approve it or criticize it.

I seriously doubt ATJ gives a monkeys about what you think of him 🤭

No idea about ATJ's involvement (or lack thereof) with the Bond franchise... but there's a sequence in Kraven that's basically the CR b&w PTS (the Prague bit) and I find it a valid screen test for him as Bond.

    I presume he fails? 😁

That's obvious, but it's the opposite case I'd like to understand. If it turns out to be someone else, then why such a silence? What does his 'strategy ' consist in? Does he think even pronouncing the word 'Bond' is going to decrease his odds?

I can understand why a British actor in their 30s could get fed up with being asked or prodded about Bond and they are there to promote their actual film and that would explain AJT's reactions in Last Meals and the Shorts video, but.

When he says on BBC Radio 1: "Shooting something else at the beginning of next year" you have to wonder.

If there is going to be an Amazon-MGM, Sony, EON Bond deal announced this xmas, as I have referred to elsewhere on this forum, then why not start Bond26 filming in January, that is when they have started filming Bond for some time now.

Well done @SeanIsTheOnlyOne for finding all that. I've been looking at Mescal's interviews and nothing so far.
