Obviously the above is not accurate…especially the blurb in the second picture is very inaccurate…but it’s fun all the same 😁

I laughed at Paul playing guitar right-handed, but it didn't stop me enjoying it.

    Thanks, God!

I’m not an aficionado on The Beatles, but the comic looked fun so I thought it would be worth posting. If anyone can point out any discrepancies, that would be useful!

Yeah, well, sometimes nothin' can be a real cool hand.
  • BarbelBarbel ScotlandPosts: 38,099Chief of Staff

Oh, it's fun! Sir M and I are very much Beatles fans (we chat away about Beatles stuff by PM) so we'll take delight in pointing out inaccuracies but that doesn't mean we're not enjoying it.

To list all the inaccuracies would take awhile 🤣 this is obviously a potted history…the record in the last picture is My Ronnie by Tony Sheridan and The Rut Brothers 🤔 and was released on Polydor records, not Decca, in Germany - October 1961🤭 by which time they’d already recorded the McCartney/Harrison song In Spite Of All The Danger in 1958 as The Quarrymen.

Also above, McCartney is still right handed whilst Harrison is magically now left handed before reverting back to right handed 🤣

During their Hamburg stay, George was deported for being underage…Pete & Paul were deported for reportedly setting light to a used condom that started a fire…but John stayed on for a couple of months playing with Tony Sheridan’s group…the Beatles had, to intense and purposes, broken up…

I’m waiting to see John with his trousers down, wearing a toilet seat shouting Heil Hiltler…and hopefully the wonderful Bettina Derlien 😁

Christmas adventures in superhero comics were more prevalent in the Golden Age than in the Silver Age, and seeing as Christmas is looming, here is one of those stories…

    BATMAN #33

  • BarbelBarbel ScotlandPosts: 38,099Chief of Staff

And Merry Christmas to you, Batman 🦇!

art in the Christmas story by J. Winslow Mortimer

art in the BatCopter story by Sheldon Moldoff

    _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Batman first used a helicopter like vehicle all the way back in Detective 31 sept 1939, only his fifth appearance

called a BatGyro, it was a propeller plane also with a helicopter rotor. (do such aircraft exist in real life?) Same issue also introduced the batarang, and Bruce Wayne's girlfriend, aspiring actress Julie Madison. This two part tale, written by Gardner Fox rather than usual Batman writer Bill Finger, is probably the best Batman story from his first year, prior to Robin's introduction. Bob Kane is still drawing the art himself in this very early story.

two years before the first BatMobile, the BatGyro may be the BatVehicle that most closely resembles an actual bat

    Check out the iconic cover!

the BatGyro reappears in the second story of Batman 1, spring 1940, except now missing the helicopter rotors it is simply called a BatPlane, and now has a mounted machine gun! otherwise this looks like the same BatVehicle

and a few pages later he uses that machine gun!

something he would quickly quit doing as he became a respectable role model

the previous story ended up a bit like Dracula, this story also is a bit derivative of a recent scary movie

I'm not sure how many times this original model BatGyro/BatPlane appeared, but in Batman 61, Nov 1951 Batman and Robin built a brand new BatPlane

definitely more technologically uptodate, but it no longer looks like a giant bat so not nearly so cool as the original.

then theres also the Whirly-Bats, first seen Detective 257 july 1958, art by Sheldon Moldoff

We looked briefly at the Challengers of the Unknown way back here

that was a series created by Jack Kirby, when he was working for DC in the late 50s, with writer Dave Wood. similar origin and adventures to the Fantastic Four without the superpowers and a less varied cast. The series ran for most of the 60s, long after Kirby left. In Kirby's later issues, he was inked by Wally Wood (MAD, Weird Science, etc). the combination of their two styles looks really good!

@CoolHandBond I request more House Ads when you've got them, they give tempting glimpses of other mysterious comics once available and give a bit of context

Don't stop, tell us more. I could read this kind of material daily.
