In DAF Blofeld simply called it a pussy ... so one would assume that it didn't have a name ...

Well, actually that was Bond. What's really strange is that not only does the cat not have a name, but Blofeld never even refers to it--he holds it, he pets it, but he never once mentions that he has a cat in his arms. Even when Bond kicks the "wrong pussy" in DAF, Blofeld doesn't make a single comment about the cat.

This has been a long debated question in many James Bond forums, and I believe that this is the official verdict:

    It has no name.

You can watch all of the Bond movies with Blofeld, and you'll never hear the cats name once. Seriously. I don't think anyone even knows the cat actor's name.

    Just a nameless cat.

The kitty doesn't appear in the stories, so there's not even a name we could take from those.

I guess they had to give Blofeld something to do while he was sitting there...why not pet a cat?

It only has eight lives after Blofeld's demise, so it is named "Octopussy".

Hmm...I don't know where you heard that, but it's not true. Are you just kidding or something?

Octopussy has absolutely nothing to do with the cat.

Hmmmm, I think justvisiting was being droll ... just a thought ;)

Oh and apologies, of course it was Bond and the scriptwriters having fun with Sean's slight lisp, "But wrong pusshy"

Predator, you think correctly. I think that Sir Miles never jokes about his work, 007.

All kidding aside, why the cat in the first place. Maybe I'm putting too much meaning into it.

Well I thought it was pretty funny.

And at least you didn't say Pussy Galore.

I just wasn't sure if it was a joke or not...

Either way it may have confused the poor fellow that actually asked the question, which is way I clarified.

I read somewhere (I forget where it was), but they said that the cats name was "Tiddes". I don't know if it was a reliable source, so I don't go by that. Just something that I read, somewhere.

I just call it "Blofeld's Cat". In all honesty, it probably doesn't have a name.

Ernst Stavro Blofeld's feline friend was portrayed by a cat actor named Tiddes. This information can be found in Steven Jay Rubin's book,The James Bond Films.

Ah, that would make sense. Thanks for the info WG! I might just have to take a look at that book.

    I did not remember that.

It wasn't the same cat each time, was it? That would have been interesting, getting a new Blofeld every time, but keeping the same cat.

What does it say about Tiddes?

Maybe Tiddes is the REAL brains behind SPECTRE.You'll notice 007 never caught him...

...and OO7 never caught Irma Bunt. That sounds like the next movie idea: "Tiddes Never Dies". Irma and Tiddes could have headquarters in a giant litter box, and try to corner the market on catnip and toy mice.

Well.....it probably doesnt have a name.

But if we were to name one......

    howabout "Number 0"

    since Blofeld is number 1

and his sidekicks are 2, 3, ......etc

    what does everyone think?

Interesting idea. This doesn't really have to do with anything, but there's a website called "Blofeld's Cat" that's dedicated to OHMSS among other things. It's at http://www.blofeldscat.com

Although there were plans to bring back Irma Bunt, the actress that played her died before OHMSS was released so any plans to bring her back were eliminated.

But that's a good idea about the cat lol

HA! I have often thought it funny that Blofeld, in private, refers to the cat by number.

    "ah, my beloved number 14"

From good authority, Ernie's cat is named Number Nine. Like all good authorities, it will remain nameless, for reasons of international security. Its ("it" because it is like Vargas, no sex, no fun) nickname is Percy, because of his Persian antecedents. Behind its back, the other cats call it Vargas.

"Neat, that. Perhaps a bit too neat!"

The name of cat might have been Solomon

I do like the idea that Blofeld called it something rally inappropriate for his evil nature in private, like Mr Tinkletoes or something, but giving it a Spectre number code name in public.
  • JamesbondjrJamesbondjr Posts: 462MI6 Agent
Well it's clear no-one knows the true name of the cat, it would seem Blofeld liked to keep that for himself.

Let's just call it Dave from here on in.

Everyone knows someone called Dave and to my memory we never see Blofeld with anyone by that name, which leaves the cat. So by process of ellimination we have the name.

In deference to Honor Blackman who owns, embodies, defines, the name Pussy Galore, how about, for Blofeld's cat, Kitty Little?

Sorry. Terrible joke. I'll go away now.

The name of the cat is indeed Solomon. I know this for a fact because he was our cat.

Thank you for clearing that up. All this time I thought his name was MacGuffin.
