I heard on the news this morning that Richard Marsh, a Safety Advisor on the set of Die Another Day, was missing on Mount Snowdon in Wales after alerting authorities by mobile phone. Sadly, he hasn't made it.

Body found on Snowdon

Rescuers searching for a walker missing on the summit of Snowdon have found a body.

An RAF team made the discovery on Tuesday afternoon, on Fantail Gully below the Crib Goch ridge - two days after Richard Marsh, 33, from Romsey in Hampshire was reported missing.

The body has yet to be formally identified, and police officers are now in the process of trying to find out whether the body is that of Mr Marsh.

The walker went missing on Sunday after making a call to emergency services on his mobile saying he was stuck on the mountainside.

Rescue teams have now called off their three-day search.

The body was being carried down the mountainside because an RAF rescue helicopter was unable to reach the area where it was discovered.

A diver by trade, Mr Marsh has worked as a safety advisor on action films, including the latest Bond movie, Die Another Day.

PC Rob Owen from North Wales Police, who has been co-ordinating the rescue operation, earlier spoke to Mr Marsh's family.

"They describe him as a very strong-minded person, very competent, adventurous, full of life and very much experienced," he said.

"They also said that he was very much well-prepared in whatever he did," he added.

Despite his background, it is unlikely Mr Marsh was prepared for a night on the mountain, according to John Roberts from the Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team.

"He intended to go up the mountain and back quite quickly and we believe he went up along the Pig Track," he said.

"The rescue teams spoke to him twice on Sunday evening and in the last phone call he said he was sitting on a ledge in a difficult place, looking eastwards and that the cloud had come in," he added.

The rescue operation has been a massive undertaking deploying two helicopters, search dogs and rescue teams from Llanberis, Ogwen, Aberglaslyn and the National Park.

Fifteen rescue teams had earlier been scouring the mountain masterminded from the warden's centre in Nant Peris where other members of the teams plan the next move for those on the mountain.

"We call it detective work," said Roland Leyland, a member of Llanberis Mountain Rescue team.

"From here we deploy the search teams as best we can and break down the mountain into different areas.

"We try to reach a consensus and then prioritise our next move.

The team record in detail the areas searched and review their rescue strategy as it becomes clear which areas can be ruled out.

"I have been out since 2000 GMT on Sunday evening until 0200 GMT this morning," he added.

"But I managed to get two hours sleep last night."

"The searchers are the best bit of kit we have and we try to use them as best we can because they give their time freely," he said.

Tragic accident and, as always, my thoughts are with his friends and family (although one has to question his own safety plans or lack thereof).
