Never Say Never Again DVD

Why isn't there a special edition dvd for Never Say Never Again? You'd think that if there's one for the rest of them eventually they'd make one for this movie, right? Who doesn't want to see Kim Basinger in all of her fully restored glory!?

Or better still, a rescored, "EONiszed" version that adds the gunbarrel logo, replaces Michel Legrand's music with more traditional sounding John Barry/David Arnold music and add the James Bond theme like the Blofeld's cat website did to the opening scenes in NSNA.

Just with the David Arnold music, my whole idea of the movie has been greatly improved.

Hope, you've seen all the clips. They are great! I particularly like the motor chase with Bond '77. I always said that the role of music is important (for me, about 20-30% of the whole experience) and this proves my theory quite well...

Talking of which, isn't there A LOT of unused footage, including the death of Blofield.

That would make for a terrific deleted scenes seciton...

As far I as know, there is some, but these only add some odd humour to an otherwise campy outing... Nothing as memorable as Blofeld's'death.

Plus, we are not even treated with adequate deleted scenes on the official releases (there are many, MANY Moore), so I don't see these would be included on the disc of the black sheep.

I'm glad they haven't included it with the others, it doesn't deserve the pleasure of being part of the original collection.

It was a second party rip-off of TB, which tried to knock `Octopussy` for six.

Well, I've seen the Blofield's Cat clips and they're very good, however, isn't part of the bike chase truncated to fit in with the new music? If you're gonna cut anything, cut that bit in the tunnel, it spoils the momentum.

Plus, Bond 77 is to accompany an upbeat, cheery pts and doesn't quite match the presumed outrage that Bond feels after seeing his colleague murderered. Perhaps the theme to the pts in TWINE that accompanies the boat chase might be better...

I want to see a special edition of Never Say Never Again released being as the official movies were given the treatment.

I didn't know there were a lot of deleted scenes. First time I've read this. I looked on the IMDb page for NSNA and there wasn't a lot of cut scenes info.

I must be one of the few who liked the theme tune and score. The film has it's own identity keeping away from the official movies but keeping a connection with them. I haven't bought it on DVD yet as I'm waiting for a special edition to hopefully be released, especially as there could be a making of on it, telling the story about the troubled shoot and what happened behind the scenes.

Yes, but it was a pretty nice rip-off!! :)

But it was a remake though wasn't it!? They were wanting to do so again with Warhead. :)

I read Kevin McClory wanted Timothy Dalton to play Bond in Warhead a few years ago.

I don't think this is where I was intending to go...
Seems it mistranslated 'Blofeld's Cat' as 'Blofeld Scat'.
If I could find the 'Screening Room' where it sent me, I don't think it'd be Never Say Never Again' - not the one I'm looking for, anyway...

Is there much chance of a special edition DVD of NSNA coming out?

Very low - the rights are held by a different company, so it will never come out with the other movies. Also, it isnt predicted to garner that much attention as a stand alone movie.

I just purchased the new DVD of NSNA, with the special features. To me this has always been a gulity pleasure movie as when compared to Thunderball it lacks the magic and polish that the EON crew had. The special features are pretty good, thought if you own any of the behind the scences books like The Complete James Bond movie encyclopedia you will not find much new information.

I am sure that the audio commentary will yield some good insights thought, its a shame that none of the deleted scenes are present as feature thought.

I watched one of the documentary's on the DVD last year. Boy did Irvin Kershner get the short end of the stick when making this movie. During production they had three crews filming at different times in different countries, and were really under staffed. Also I remember that Kershner said that Warner Bros. did not like the original story and as a result constant rewrites were forced on the actors which lead to the film going over budget . Lorenzo Semple Jr. from the 1966 Batman tv show was brought in because the studio wanted more humor in the film, which only made the film suffer more as whole. If you ask me Warner Bros. should have let Kershner make his own choices about the story and not what they felt would work. I think Connery himself later said an interview i read in a book somewhere that signing on to do the film was not a smart move, even thought he was given more creative input than he was ever allowed before on the Eon films. Still he remained a pro til the bitter end and did his best with the poor script he had to work from.

The Battle for Bond by Sellers deals with the whole Thunderball thing from beginning to end. NSNA sounded a right shambles. A bit damning that Connery signed on without a final script; guess he needed the cash and bad. A lot was written on the hoof by script doctors Dick Clement and Ian Le Frenais.

In the book, The Films of Sean Connery(which is an excellent read by the way) the section on NSNA tells that Connery had direct input on the script in an earlier draft. In 1975 under the title James Bond of the Secret Service,(which later became Warhead) was near to being finished until Cubby Broccoli found out and started the legal battle to prevent it from being made. During the time frame of 1975-1982 Connery worked on many other films and while the Thunderball remake was put on the back burner. The script was rewritten by various people during this time, and was not until about 1981 that things fell into place and Warner Bros. gave the movie the green light. I strongly think that due to all changes to the story prior to the start of production, it was going to be a troublesome film to make.

Connery himself said that while filming in France he had to help out the AD due Kershner being tied up with keeping "the suits" at Warner Bros. happy. In addition he ended up staying on the production for about three weeks later than he had first signed on for.

That's true enough PPK, but the 1975 Warhead treatment was wholly shelved because of the legal issues surrounding it, and NSNA was a start-again-from-scratch effort. A lot of Warhead would have seemed passe anyhow after the waterlogged theme of The Spy Who Loved Me, and I got the impression it would have required a really huge budget far beyond their scope.

Okay thanks for the info. I did remember reading online somewere that McClory wanted to due another version of the aborted Warhead script. Thought if I remember right, the bit about Timothy Dalton playing Bond again was just a rumor and after while McColry just gave up.
