Well, thank you Higgins, that all sounds rather good actually and a week isn't too long - I presume QM2 is one of the best ships around? I don't want to mix with any riff-raff :))

In contrary to all other "Cruise"ships, QM2 is the last and only true Ocean liner.

She was made for crossing the Atlantic on a regular schedule and has the power, speed and design to cope with any imaginable kind of weather.

Just look at how the bow is done and imagine what a 60 feet monster wave would to to the warm-water ships:

I just saw a large cruise ship ancored a couple of miles from here. It's just a village, really, so those huge ships must block much of the view ....

Thanks once again, Higgins, that is very interesting.

Looks like Mrs CHB is not going to stop nagging me until we cruise on QM2 now :) but it will have to wait until next year at least as we have a months holiday back in the UK to celebrate my 60th birthday in June and we are off to Disneyworld Florida with the little one in October.
Yeah, well, sometimes nothin' can be a real cool hand.

    Welcome, CHB.

I've had the privilege hearing 4 lectures from Steve Payne onboard of QM2 (one was about the old Queens, one about the Titanic desaster, one about QM2 and a last one about the Royal Yacht Brittannia and the last 2 where simply amazing!)

The NRK channel (masters of slow TV) found a 29 year old interview they made with Bernie Sanders and showed it again.
Back then he felt that very little sperated the Democrats and Republicans - the politics was almsot the same. In my opinion that was truer back then, they have seperated in many issues since.
He also used words such as "class struggle", words he no longer uses .... :v
His hair was just as bad back then, though.

Yep, it's a common trend that political camps are becoming much more polarised than in the earlier days - it started in the US and it's now moving on across Europe.

Not everybody can maturely and peacefully settle disagreements like I do :D

I read that Gary Barlow is to be a stormtrooper in the new Star Wars film.
I guess the new death star must have some good Tax avoidance schemes. :))

I saw The Force Awakens for the first time last night (yes, really :)) ) and for the first time I really enjoyed a modern SW movie.

    THE GHOSTS ,
today I had to go and pay some money into one of my bank accounts ;) ,and as I was on my way to Bluewater ,I thought to myself as I have my new toy ,I would take a quick diversion and have a drive to one of the towns I used to be stationed . I parked up ,did my banking ,bit of shopping ,and headed back to car . Theres that house that we went too for the first murder I dealt with , a well done from the skipper and the guvnor ,that meant a lot to us ,theres the alley ,we would stop in ,so my partner could have a quick burn ,all the memories came back thick and fast , we did stake out there , we did obs there , theres the bank that we attended in plain clothes ,it was being robbed , I thought of my colleagues who had died .It was too much, the tears started ,and I had to run back to the safety of my car ,the ghosts had got me
and there wasn't any thing I could do .Door shut, air con on ,stereo on ,on my way back to Bluewater ah the safety of a bit of retail therapy :)I would do it all again and wouldn't miss it for the world ,
By the way, did I tell you, I was "Mad"?

As Higgins correctly guessed I was indeed on the Queen Elizabeth and we had done a 4 night trip from Southampton to Hamburg. It was our first time so wanted to try it out.

It wasn't for us but that's not the ships/cruise fault, it just didn't suit us as people.

The ship was stunning, the food exceptional (though choose your dining choices wisely as they do vary) and the service second to non.

I loved the evenings with the fine dining, dancing and shows but I did find the days a bit of a drag. On days in port there are plenty of organised excursions but they all start very early. There are hundreds of activities organised and it all starts from about 7am. As we am not an early riser or an activities kind of person it didn't suit us.

The clientele are generally older people and that wasn't an issue for us but don't go expecting a raucous, wild time.

All in all, this may sound odd, it was fabulous but not for us :s :s

Stores are closed 15th , 16th , 17th in Norway......I barely had time to go gorcery shopping today as they closed at 4PM (late last night for me)

    www.vg.no/nyheter/innenriks/arbeidsliv/lo-gerd-ber-politiet-ta-rema-1000/a/23684122/

-LO is sort of a state control unit in Norway and they're pissed cuz grocery store Rema has the gall to be open on 16th & 17th which are holidays here , typical nanny state lol.....in other countries they wouldn't have batted an eye lid if stores were open on Sundays.

I have to disagree. To me it's a bout two issues:

    - A pause from the comercialism of today's society. The pressure to consume and buy is nearly everywere and constant nowadays, and a pause from this can be healthy. You knew these days of closed grocery shops where coming up, and it's not difficult to buy a little extra beforehand. Most days grocery shops are open till ten pm,you're not living in Stalinst Russia with short opening hours and mile-long ques. LO is a large labour union organization. It has close ties to the Labour party, but it's incorrect to call it "state controlled", especially since Labout is an oposition party now :))

    - I also think it's important that workers (including in grocery and retail) get a few days of at the same time as most others are off work. Now they can visit family living elsewere etc.

I too agree with giving the workers the odd holiday. ;)

I think its pathetic that places like Westfield in London feel the need to open until 10pm at night ,I mean whos going to want to buy a
watch or suit ect at that time of night ,If I wanted to buy an expensive item ,id want the guy selling it to me ,to be fresh as a daisy
,on the ball and full of enthusiasm ,not some one whos half asleep ,or worried he is going to miss his train home .

Being able to buy groceries every day of the year isn't a human right, but it should be a right for everyone to have a few days off at the same time as "everyone" else.

Good. It was a cynical and outrageously dishonest act. Whether it was an honest mistake (I'm afraid I don't believe that for an instant) or a corporate decision, VW is responsible and should pay. Who knows how many sales - and therefore how much money - they scored based on that false information.
