    It's a shame the sea-Train wasn't a success.

Fantastic photo you shared, Chriscoop! :007)

I'm watching Pierce Brosnan in a Danish movie on TV right now. It's a romantic comedy from 2012 directed by Susanne Bier called "Den skallene frisør" (The bald hairdresser) or "Love is all you need". Everyone talks to him in Danish and he replies in English. :)

I've seen that film and thoroughly enjoyed it. It has a good soundtrack too.

I found it both emotive and striking. Amazing how a gift to the US from France has come to represent the essence of Liberty and amazing how the people of Aleppo have used it. It struck me how in the depths of despair and destruction the human spirit remains so strong. When I saw that photo I instantly wanted to share it here.

I always liked Jags and Rangeys. Still think that the '06 version of the Rangey is the best looking one, IMO.

Not really a big fan of the f type, it looks almost like a Japanese sports car, I think the xk was a better looking car.

    oh, disagree on that!!

I really love the F-Type besides the fact that it's 500 kg too heavy.
If you don't understand the weight issue, shake a full 2 liter bottle and an empty one and you'll understand what I mean :D

The F-Type looks, sounds and performs better than the unfortunate XK which always looked to me like a bloated Ford Cougar ;)

There's a huge IT security scandal in Sweden, threathening to bring down some ministers and perhaps all of them. To save money they outsourced the maintainance if some IT network to experts other countries like India. These people didn't have security clearances. The information ranges from sensitive information about bridges and other infrastrukturen, but also secret information about fighter pilots and even inteligence agents. Yes, Sweden has inteligence agents. I think many countries need to tighten their IT security.

I have to assume after saying they're going to stop
The sale of new petrol and diesel cars. I'm expecting
Our government to announce a massive building
Program of new power stations, to fuel all these
    New electric cars. :D
Also an increase in insurance claims for people tripping
Over said power cables for cars !

didn't they set the deadline as 2040? they set dates like that for a reason, so you shouldn't worry, nobody is actually serious about the electric car

but you raise a good point about power sources
the electricity has to come from somewhere, so its not ultimately any more environmental than fossil fuels
here in Ontario they can never get any new power sources built. not because of the environment, but because people don't like to look at them. windmills spoil the view. they complain about coal, complain about nuclear, complain about wind and solar. so all new projects get cancelled. Then they complain about their electricity bill. Remembering the nifty graph from microeconomics 101, limited supply x rising demand = rising prices, but instead we ae subsidising peoples electricity bills. what happens when the same limited supply is required for both all currently existing users and everybody's three cars in the driveway?
  • Number24Number24 NorwayPosts: 22,349MI6 Agent
"Nobody is actually serious, about electric cars." Really? Is that why most car manufacturers are spending lot of money on research on them and launch new electric cars every year? My local Toyota dealership seals mye electric cars than other types of cars combined. I know Norway is a leader in this field with more than 30% of new cars being electric, but this is coming all over the world.

You make a good point about the source of the electric power. If you drive an electric car and use electric power from coal you might as well drive a fossil fuel car. Here we have hydro power in spades, but this isn't the case in most countries. But the world must switch from fossil fuel to renewable sources, and this is happening in many countries.

I think you Scandinavians are generally smarter than some of the rest of us. Canada is very economically dependent on the Alberta Tar Sands, so has incentive to keep using those fossil fuels regardless of available alternatives. Not sure about the UK, but the 2040 deadline tells me its all for PR. If they were serious the deadline would be much much closer.
  • Number24Number24 NorwayPosts: 22,349MI6 Agent
I have demonstrated many times here on AJB that not all Scandinavians are smartere than other people :v
Need I remind you that Norway is a major export er of fossil fuel? But we have some advantages such as populations that believe in science, good economy and in the case of Norway plenty of hydropower.

I agree the deadline should be earlier, perhaps 2030. If you mean sales of new cars I think it can be done. Electric cars are getting better each year and will be able to outclass fossil cars without using government incentives in a few years.

    When they sort out hydrogen as a fuel source for electric cars, then happy days ! -{
Until then all this battery crap is something from the 50s ! :#

What I'd like to know is the life span of these batteries and how they will be disposed of, and what is the carbon footprint of producing them? I'm assuming they are lithium or nicad which are pretty toxic substances.
We've already been told in the UK that the national grid couldn't cope with widespread electric car charging, why don't the manufacturers put mini wind turbines behind the grill of the cars ( patent pending) to produce power while the car is in motion?
Also what happened to diesel cars running off vegetable oil? And petrol cars running off ethanol? This requires minor modification of the vehicles and the diesel and petrol infrastructure could be used to make these fuel available. Why do we pay farmers a subsidy to not grow anything in their fields then buy rapeseed oil for bio diesel from south America which is shipped by diesel powered tankers!!? Also electric cars will compound the obesity problem as every charging station will be full of people having to wait 30 minutes to charge their cars, a lot of those people will use that time eating subway, McDonald's and drinking Costa Coffee.
I'm not sure this is well thought out at all.
