The reaction of the world community in general to the actions of Myanmar has been weak. It's not something we'll remember with pride. :(

Funny how the Pope didn't mention the mass killings
Happening in Myanmar. So much for religious leaders
    Standing up for the innocent!

I know your stand to religion and the pope, but maybe he deliberately did not mention that - until today.

A country like Myanmar, where the slightest spark can fuel new massacres is not the place to clash social and religious groups against each other and I am very sure (though I am not catholic) that the Pope did everything in his power to solve this issue.
As an example, he wished to visit a refugee camp which was then not allowed by the Bangladesh government for security reasons.

Today, he asked the Rohingya for forgiveness and apologized what happened to them in a public prayer.

I know, that no action can be enough to heal or solve what has happened but I trust that the pope is doing his best in the complicated mess that Myanmar is in.

Not to get in to a big angry discussion but I can't
Help feeling that, that Jesus bloke just might have spoken
Out about genocide ...... then again, I could be wrong.

At the other end of the scale, proud can be the man who speaks out in defence of his porn buddy.

    I've got your back

I bet if Mister Green had been run over by a bus, he'd have Dirty Davies on his speed dial for his final last words: 'Mate, wipe the computer. And you know where the spare key to the flat is - can you bin the mags under the bed before the wife gets over?'

I don't think Jesus spoke about genoside in particular. But given his views on killing I think you're right.
On the other hand, Higgins has a point. The situation in Myanmar is very complex and the Pope might not be able to speak his mind, even though he and many other wish he could shout in anger from the room tips.

Surely the Pope is the one who can talk about these things in line with the religion he represents? He isn't governed or judged by politics or anyone except his God?
Imho given his religions fantastic track record in genocide and mass murder I'd find it unpalletable anyway, but that is just my personal view and in no way meant to undermine anyone's personal religious beliefs.

I was more speaking about the consequences to the people if the pope would have spoken out clearly what was his take on the situation.

Let‘s keep in mind that these conflicts are burning high already, there is no need to fuel them more up „ by speaking out“

Let‘s just remember that this bastard Slobodan Praljak who just killed himself 2 days ago is now regarded as a hero in wide parts of Croatia.
The hate and conflict still exists after all these years and it just needs a spark to burn the flames again.

No problem, I'm thinking the same thing. But the christians in Myanmar are a minority, it's the first time a Pope is in the country and Myanmar is taking the first wobbly steps away from military dictatorship and towards democracy. The "wrong" worse can do more harm than good.
  • ChriscoopChriscoop Belize Posts: 10,458MI6 Agent
In reply to Higgins, This is very true, it's one of the main things politics can't combat and neither can religion. The whole war in the former yugoslavia was far worse than was ever reported or acknowledged by the world. And what is going on in Myanmar is humans at their worst.

:)) Not deep at all N24, I'm not that clever ;)

Although if religion and religious leaders constantly tell us they are working for the big bloke in the sky.
They shouldn't be bound by earthly etiquette of making well worded but ultimately powerless political
Statements, after all we have Politicians to do that, they are supposed to work for a higher personage ?
If not, then what's the point of all their moral preaching ? Is killing OK or is it against God's commandments ?
If it's wrong then old Papa should have said so, other than the" I couldn't possibly say " type comment. :D

Don't wish to offend or change anyone's mind, just thinking out loud.
