Grrr, so I missed what, 2 or 3 episodes of the new Who? Why do they start new seasons at the start of baseball playoffs when I'm not paying attention?
I did see Tennant in Casanova Part I, last weekend and found him quite charming so I look forward to seeing his take on Dr. Who though I can feel he's going to be completely different from Ecclestone (who I grew to like a lot -- in fact the only recurring character I did like)
Geeze, MBE, where've you been? I made an announcement on page 45, over a month ago, that the new series would be on in the U.S.! As always, there's just no love for the Hardyboy.
So, did you see "School Reunion," and what did you think? Fun ep, if a bit derivative of the '90s horror spoof, The Faculty (and was that the guy from those "romantic" coffee commercials as the evil Head Master?); and I loved the return of Sarah Jane Smith and K-9. Even though I first encountered them as a college student in the mid-to-late '80s and not as a wide-eyed kid in the early '70s, I still had a lump in my throat when Sarah Jane recognized the Doctor and K-9 came back to life. I also thought it treated the Doctor's relationships with his companions with a great deal of sensitivity, and it showed how living virtually forever is more of a burden than a blessing. Plus, there was some darned funny dialogue: "Why does he look so disco?", "Ignore the shooty dog thing!", "You're a bad dog!" -- "Affirmative!" )
Actually I did see your alert a couple of weeks ago but then forgot it again. Like I said baseball intervened (though that turned ugly quickly for me). Even this episode I had to wait for the midnight repeat.
It took me minutes to warm to Tennant and accept him as Dr. Who whereas it took episodes to warm to Ecclestone.
I really liked Sarah Jane and her chemistry with Dr. Who was wonderful. Tennant's face suffused with the pure joy of seeing her isn't something I could see Eccelestone's Who doing. And the boyishness of Tennant makes the passage of time and opportunities lost somehow made it more poignant than it would have been with Ecclestone who looked far older and more mature.
I still can't stand Rose, in fact more than ever I just don't like her. I didn't like her reactions to Sarah Jane (until the very end she was pretty indufferable) and I still think the way she traets Mickey stinks. Also -- does she ever close her mouth?
From the sampling of this one episode I think Rose had better chemistry with Ecclestone, not romantic either but a believable avuncular kind of chemistry that I didn't see with Tennant who didn't seem as especially fond of her.
Seeing Giles (Head) turn all evil and batty is quite disconcerting.
I did not like what happenned to K-9 not at all --- until it unhappenned to him.
Yes there were some great one liners. Others:

I can tell you're getting older, your assistants are getting younger.
The Mrs meeting the ex -- every man's nightmare.

I think this might be my favorite of the new Who episodes I've seen. I'm just sorry Sarah Jane is gone and I'm still stuck with Rose.
Rose did get annoying during the second series- she leans towards self-interest quite a lot and the Doctor and her often got a bit too smug. It was a bit of a problem, although towards the end of the series things do improve.
And if you're liking Tennant's Doctor then you'll love The Girl in the Fireplace next week- it's an absolute cracker. And Rose doesn't have too much to do!
Cleaned up at the National Television Awards again, winning most popular drama, most popular actress for Billie Piper and most popular actor for David Tennant.
I did like this quote: "I think if my eight-year-old self could see me at the Royal Albert Hall winning a prize for playing the doctor on telly, he would need a stiff shot of Irn-Bru," said Tennant after collecting his award from Dame Julie Andrews.

I try to not come in here and comment on the episodes that are now airing in the U.S., reasoning my British friends will snort, "What's with this Yank? We saw that six months ago!" But I have to say this about The Age of Steel, which aired this evening:
Wow! Easily one of the best of the new Who episodes I've seen. I've always loved the Cybermen, but this episode succeeded in making them downright terrifying--both in terms of what they do and especially in terms of what's been done to them. The Cybies themselves are also brilliantly designed, reminiscent of the look of the Troughton-era creatures, yet sleeker and more cadavarous. I also enjoyed the Doctor's take on the logo on their chests--"It's like they're a brand!"
I've had my reservation about the new series--making the Doctor too human and too much of a love interest being chief among them--but sometimes "new" and "improved" really are!
David Tennant has been voted the best ever Doctor Who in a poll conducted by Doctor Who magazine. Rose Tyler (Billie Piper) came out on top as the Doctor's best assistant followed by Sarah Jane Smith (Elisabeth Sladen).

I just searched the images from Google, and mixed them together on MS Paintbrush. This is not the first Monopoly Board I've created, so I sort of have a system going (design) that's working quite well.
I'm planning a Literary James Bond Monopoly now.

I thought that was the best first-of-series episode so far; great fun. And really lovely music too; a lot of stuff in this really wouldn't be out of place in a movie.
I struggle to take any Hospital based sci-fi or horror seriously after Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace but this was much better than the last series opener. I think Martha's extended family might grate if they get too much screentime but David Tennant is firing on all cylinders now and has an infectious sense of fun that carries the series along.

Definitely! I was a little unsure as I wasn't much impressed with last series' opener, but this really was great! I'm certainly warming to Martha too. She's nothing like I expected her to be, which is fantastic! It's all been amazing!
Did anyone decide to watcht he next time?
Shakespeare looks unbelievably different to what I'd have thought he'd of looked like! Or maybe that's me knowing little about him? Looks terrific anyway!
'The Shakespeare Code' was a decent episode. Martha continues to impress. Some clever dialogue. I especially liked Shakespeare giving it 'Hey nonny nonny,' when he saw Martha. And we found out who Shakespeare's dark lady is. Next weeks episode, with Ardal O Hanlan as a feline taxi-driver, looks promising.
Grumble. . .lucky Brits!. . .it'll probably be six to eight months before we get to see the new season! Anyway, quick question: In season one they re-introduced the Daleks; in season two they re-introduced the Cybermen. Any chance that in season three they'll re-introduce another favorite baddie, namely, The Master?

Wow! Easily one of the best of the new Who episodes I've seen.
