Can't get the picture on my computer Sweepy. But can I hazard a guess and say it was David Tennant filming the 2008 Christmas special? I've seen pictures of him on-set and notice that there are also pics of Davd Morrisey looking very Doctor-like. I've written on this thread and the Torchwood one about how much RTD likes to crib ideas from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. At the end of Buffy season one, she is technically dead after drowning, but only for a couple of minutes, before she is revived. This brief encounter with death is enough to trigger the arrival of a second slayer, who appears for a few episodes in Season two. It wouldn't surprise me if RTD tried something similar and gave us two Doctor's for the price of one. But then again, I suspect you are right, and there is a huge cop-out waiting for us next week. But all the indications are that one of the recurring characters is not going to make it.

No 'Jack' or 'Sarah-Jane' cannot die because they have already signed up to be in 'Torchwood' and 'The Sarah-Jane Adventures'. My bets are on 'Rose' since she's the one 'The Doctor' loves most and is the most faifthful. But it could still be 'Martha' or 'Donna'

I sort of figured that David Tennant couldn't go, as why else would they bother re-arranging next years episodes (ie not having a full series) if it wasn't so he could fit filming around performing in Hamlet?
It took me a few moments admitedly to recover from the shock and realise that. Before that I was in total shock at the possibility that it might be time up for my Doctor.
The series really has been a corker though I wouldn't dare begin to compare it to past ones until a while after the last episode airs, so that it all sinks in and I can overlook it clearly.
With Steven Moffet due to take over, I feel confident that the series is in safe hands. Though I enjoy Russel T Davies marvellous writing for the series, I prefer Moffet's, as it always seems slightly darker.
The series is sure to end with surprises in store; I personally couldn't believe they managed to keep the regeneration or whatever it turns out to be, a secret. I shall once again be forced to feel like an excited five year old Saturday night before that long wait till Christmas.
Well the finale was certainly entertaining, but an absolute load of nonsense. Did I really see the TARDIS pulling the earth behind it? With Steven Moffat's stories you get a feeling that however complicated things are, their resolution makes sense. With RTD, things are just thrown together. Some of the things in that last episode were beyond silly. Rose getting her own life-size Doctor clone to play with being a prime example. Still thanks for bringing the show back Russell. And for 'Love and Monsters,' which was for me one of the best episodes of the new Doctor Who.

uugh, I hated 'Love and Monsters', it was silly and The Doctor himself was barely in it. If David Tennant didn't have enough time to film the episode it should've been left out. Although Blink and 'Turn Left' (Other Doctor-lite episodes) were ok I really think we shouldn't bother. As for 'Journey's End' I thought it was every bit as good as 'The Stolen Earth' except for the 'earth-pulling bit that John Drake mentioned)

I agree that I wasn't that keen on Love and Monsters but it didn't really both me that the Doctor wasn't it in that much. All the factors that made it so terrible had nothing to do with that.
I loved Blink but then still have yet to really make my mind up on Turn Left. There were some parts that I liked and then others at which I was a bit like "What?!"
But if the usual format returns in 2010 then the Doctor-lite episodes will remain. Since they started having the Christmas Specials, it means they need one so as to be able to fit all the filming in. They're filming within the same amount of time it took to do the 2005 series, but with an extra Christmas episode too.
On another note, has anyone done the Journalist thing in Doctor Who Magazine?
I gave it a few goes before unearthing my journalist talents.
From today's moaning-faced Scots newspaper, the Daily Record. There are serious spoilers relating to the identity of David Morrisey's character in the Xmas special, and that of River Song.
Doctor Who is married, reveals producer Russell T Davies
Sep 18 2008 TV HERO Doctor Who's biggest secret was revealed yesterday - he's married.
And Mrs Who is a character fans have already seen - River Song, played by actress Alex Kingston in a two-part episode shown earlier this year.
Series producer Russell T Davies has also revealed that this year's Christmas Special will unveil current Doctor David Tennant's possible replacement.
David Morrissey, who played Gordon Brown in TV drama The Deal, will play a second Doctor Who in the special, which will feature bad guys The Cybermen.
Davies spilled the beans about Dr and Mrs Who in a new book, which features his emails about the show.
He wrote: "We've cast Alex Kingston as River Song. Alex Kingston. I bloody love her. Alex Kingston is the Doctor's wife."
He also revealed he originally hoped to get Titanic star Kate Winslet for the role.
On the Christmas special, Davies wrote: "It's the Doctor paired with a new Doctor.
"The best title would be The Two Doctors but maybe not.
"The New Doctor perhaps? Or the Next Doctor? I quite like the Next Doctor."
There's been a lot of talk about the identity of Morrisey in this special- I thought it had been decided that he wasn't that, but perhaps the Record might be right. Not the strongest of sources, though.
I would imagine he might be another time lord not necessarily the Doctor. If the Darleks can find different ways to escape the war i'm sure the time lords could too
Isn't it Russell T. Davies? That's pretty strong, but I wonder if this isn't deliberate misinformation. There seems to be a book involved or something and this info is apparently in there.

Yeah but the Record could be filling in the gaps he's leaving. My guess is that he's not actually the Doctor but perhaps some sort of imposter: as in the audio play 'The One Doctor' which came out a few years back- RTD has borrowed from those before.
The best episode to date of the new Dr Who has to be "The Girl in the Fireplace", an exquisite blend of sci-fi and pathos. The actress who played Madame du Pompadour was just wonderful. "Blink" is the other truly stand out episode.
interestingly David M's doctor just used an actual screwdriver !
I suspect he's a fake, as Em suggested earlier. The costume looks too much like one of the 80's outfits, and Morrisey is deliberately going over the top, as if he's doing an impersonation of what The Doctor is considered to be, rather than doing his own interpretation. But you never know.

Yeah, I'd suggest he's an impersonator. Otherwise, surely one of the Doctors would recognise himself from the past?
I'm presuming that the Cybershade is a fake too- when I saw pictures before I thought it was some spooky new Cyberman, but seeing it there it looks pretty crappy- as if it's someone just dressing up as a Cyberman and getting it wrong.

I dont think it is the real Doctor, though i wouldnt mind if it was. compared with the other suggestions that have cropped up, he is certainly one of the better ones. overall though it was a brilliant opener to the xmas special and has certainly made me even more excited about what is to come!

Not sure who's going to die, though- all the signs seem to say Donna. Could be Rose, I suppose.

RTD isn't that reliable a source really. He tends to mess with people's heads. Or think he's messing with people's heads.

I didn't know what you were on about until I googled "Doctor Who" and came up with this:
