L'assaut ,French movie about the 1994 GIGN assault on the hi-jacked Air France airliner in Marseilles . Chilling, realistic with absolutely no overblown Holywood special effects or explosions. Very documentary in feel and during the final assault real footage of the event is seen on TV screens. One of the main characters is Denis Favier who is now Director General of the Gendarmerie and was in charge of the CT ops during the Charly Hebdo ops.
Enjoyable after many many years since I last saw it (ain't seen the badly reviewed remake) however I always wonder how Keanu became an actor - does he talk like that in real life??
Not a film, but rather a miniseries: the BBC's recent adaptation of Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None.
I spent most of Sunday reading the original Agatha Christie novel. It's many years since I read an entire novel in a day, it was truly gripping. The miniseries is a very good adaptation of the novel, quite faithful to the text although some aspects (including the ending) are slightly tweaked and altered. The cast was particularly good - Charles Dance, Sam Neill, Miranda Richardson, Toby Stephens among others, and I thought Aidan Turner had quite a Bondian feel to him. Funny enough, when I was reading the novel it struck me that Christie described his character's appearance in similar terms to how Fleming describes Bond, in particular the "cruel mouth."
A very good bit of work by the BBC, I highly recommend it - although it isn't quite as strong as the novel.
I watched another version of the ill fated ship "The Titanic" ,and a few things still bother me , The ice berg that hit the ship ,according to the film makers was gigantic ,bigger than the ship its self .Why didn't the survivours head towards the berg and land people ashore on it ,or am I just barking up the wrong tree (woof woof)
I'm no expert but I think they say the Iceberg was covered in black sea algae, so almost invisible.
I guess they wouldn't have been able to find it, as with their speed they probably couldn't stop in time.
Also with the era that it was, they probably hadn't the right dress wear for an iceberg and would have

New X-Men. Pile of crap, really ran out of ideas. I liked the X-Men flicks as it was a darker and not so daft franchise etc however the last few have turned into a Superman / Avengers / transformers type CGI destroy building / cities crap (yawn)
Found the CGI very poor standard in this one. Some of it looked very cartoonish
It's amazing how these old movies had some standard characters,
which they all stuck to.

Old scientist or expert, who's not too fit, or sickly
Young assistant ( Romantic interest) either the old expert's
assistant or daughter.
It's funny as a Kid I never noticed.

Golden compass last night ,starring Mr Craig ,I didn't even know he was in it ,until I turned it on .Good film though ,but Craigs mannerism were very Bondish ,but I enjoyed it .
Chef. Wow, I cannot recommend this tiny gem highly enough. MUST see is all I can say. Aside from an early dead pig body moment (yuck!) this movie is totally engaging.

I watched "The Boys " yesterday ,a real whos who of British stage and screen stars , Richard Todd ,Robert Morley ,Ronald Lacey,(he was the Gestapo man in raiders of the lost ark) Wilfred Bramble (Steptoes dad) and many many more .Set in one of my favourite timelines/places ,London just after WW2 ,I love these type of films .4 young men accused of murder ,and Richard Todd leading for the prosecution at the old Bailey ,love it love love it .
X-men: Apocalypse. Whatup with these bad reviews? Fast-moving, entertaining, good villain. . .and Michael Fassbender makes Magneto a complex, sympathetic figure. It passes the Hardyboy Test, which is the only yardstick I need.

Watched District 9 again - good film...and last night watched Terminator: Genisys - which was decent in parts...
