I just watched True Lies. The beginning is a great James Bond homage/parody that is more like Brosnan's films that came after it than any Bond films before it.

Watching Valley of Eagles an early Terence Young film. The cast includes Christopher Lee and Anthony Dawson.

That film had really great action scenes, not much in Goldeneye comes close to it.

Saw Trainspotting on C4 or Film4, reshown to tie in with the belated sequel. I thought I might have forgotten much of it; I hadn't but had forgotten how superb it was. It really is one classic scene after another so in that sense like an early Bond film. I mean, neither are action films exactly but there is always something going on to maintain the interest, so you'd wish Danny Boyle had done Bond at one point.

Of course Bond pops up when Sick Boy does his Connery impershination and ruminates on the nature of life: you have it, but once it's gone, it's over.

Next with Nicolas Cage. Interestingly enough directed by Lee Tamahori who helmed Die Another Day. Cage plays a Vegas performer who can see 2 minutes into his future and the CIA wants him to help them stop terrorists from setting off a nuke on American soil.

It's incredibly cheesy, much of the dialogue made me roll my eyes and smirk. Also Nic Cage looks terrible, I think it was on purpose but he looks like an escaped mental patient. Nevertheless it was very entertaining and I would watch it again.

Little bit of trivia, at the beginning of that film. The lady helping out with his trick
    Is infact Cage's wife. ;)

I've occasionally said that Trainspottting is the best movie I'll never see again as long as I live. My youngest son (now 19) was a baby when I first saw it. No further explanation is required.

    What a terrible cameo

I really need to see a few more Tamahori films. Next on the list is Mulholland Falls

I saw "Snowden" by Oliver Stone on DVD the other day. I liked the movie, the topic is very important and I liked the cast. Nicolas Cage delivers a good performance in a good movie, something I haven't seen him do in many years.

I am a Special Olympics bowling coach, the season started last week and I wanted to Christen my new pair of bowling shoes with a white Russian night. It only seems appropriate. Alas my bowling ball is not purple. Just wait untill "The Silence of the Lambs" night.

    T2: Trainspotting. A pretty good film, but not a patch on the original. Loved hearing the 007 theme as well as the little mention of John Barry -{

Our Man Flint (1966). James Coburn as the super agent Derek Flint. Great miniature special effects (far superior than CGI in my opinion because they have a certain charm about them), great sets and good fights. Definitely the best non-Bond secret agent film during the spy-craze of the 60's. A few scenes are a little reminiscent of YOLT - I wonder if the Bond producers were influenced by this film with the kung-fu fights and mention of a volcano base? Coburn is very charismatic and cool and the "controlling the weather" plot is much like a Bond villain scheme. One of the villains is named Hans Gruber which was the name of the villain in Die Hard - probably a coincidence?

I remember seeing this as a kid at the cinema and being very impressed by it and it still holds up really well. I sold off most of my collection of UK quad movie posters before moving out East but of the 20 I kept this is one of them.

Paul Greengrass is planning to make a movie about the Utøya tragedy based on Åsne Seierstads book "One of us". Sooner or later a movie will be made about the tragedy, and I think Greengrass is perfectfor it. Åsne Seierstad's book is excelent and I recomend it highly:

Just watched Speed Racer on Blu Ray, and wow is this still a cool & fun movie! The original cartoon series was influenced by Goldfinger & Presley racing flicks, and that influence is seen heavily in this movie. Pure entertainment.
Dalton & Connery rule. Brozz was cool.

Kelly's Heroes. I saw it on TV with my dad once but at the time I wasn't particularly interested in it and didn't remember much, loved it as an adult though. Clint Eastwood, Telly Savalas, Donald Sutherland and Don Rickles all in the same movie? Can't believe it took me so long to watch it. Donald Sutherland stole the show though, I have no clue what Oddball's accent was supposed to be but even that was hilarious.

Eddie The Eagle. A great biopic about Britain's ski jumping champion who was last in the Olympics but stole the hearts of the watching world. A really good cast and Taron Egerton is brilliant as Eddie.

I watched The Lego Batman Movie recently with my Father. It was a lot of fun and had tons of laughs for both kids and grown ups alike. I am a big kid so this kind of movie really appeals to me. After the awfulness of Batman Vs Superman and Suicide Squad this movie was just what I needed.

The Founder: entertaining movie about the beginning of the McDonald's restaurants chain.
The Lego Batman movie : Charming, fun and very, very funny.

Sausage Party, R-rated animated film in which foul-mouthed food items in a grocery store learn the horrible truth of their collective fate. Utterly juvenile, but I laughed so hard I was wheezing. Also--a major surprise is that it's largely about THEOLOGY!

Black Caesar (1973). A Blaxploitation film starring Fred Williamson as a gangster. It also has Gloria Hendry and Julius Harris from LALD. Gloria looks really good in this movie, her hair style is much more attractive than in LALD. Interesting to compare the two films locations, Harlem looks more gritty but then again the photography is a lot sharper in LALD. The film was released in the UK as Godfather Of Harlem and apparently has a sequel, Hell Up In Harlem with the same cast.

Received the re-mastered new BR release of Heat this morning , brilliant, one of my favourite movies of all time the shootout scenes especially. How about Michael Mann to direct a Bond ?

Hows the remaster? Still got a crappy DVD version!

Always remember watching this in the cinema and the gunshots felt for real during the shootout / robbery

Remaster is brilliant, it is the Amazon Prime directors edition, the sound stage takes you into the middle of the action.

    Law Abiding Citizen.

Reeally enjoyed it and still think Gerard Butler would have been a good Bond.
