Plummer is good, as he usually is, but Steiger to my mind goes OTT (though less than he did in, say, "The Specialist"). He could be spot on ("In The Heat Of The Night", for which he won an Oscar) but that became a rarity as time went on.

I watched the Jet Li film My Father is A Hero (1995) aka Jet Li's The Enforcer as its known in America. It is quite a departure from the films Li is known for being set in the present day and having gunplay and explosions in addition to martial arts. Li plays a undercover policeman from Mainland China who wanting to protect his family lets them believe he is a criminal. He ends up going to Hong Kong to try and catch a dangerous criminal with a hair trigger temper. The action scenes are well done and the scenes of Li interacting his son are really great to watch as well. It is a shame that Dragon Dynasty (An American company that specialized in releasing Chinese action/ martial arts movies) was not able to provide the original Chinese language track for the film, so I had to watch it with the English dubbing.

Cockneys vs Zombies. I was looking for a Honor Blackman movie and watched this. It is so much fun and Honor must have had a ball filming this, blasting zombies to bits in a retirement home. There is an absolutely hilarious scene with Richard Briers and a Zimmer frame! Highly recommended

Directed by Howard Hawks, starring John Wayne and Dean Martin. Slow paced Western, outstanding performances. Wayne plays the town sheriff, Martin his drunken deputy. Pretty much remade some years later as El Dorado with Wayne again plus Robert Mitchum in the part equivalent to Dean Martin, again directed by Hawks.... then again some years later as Rio Lobo, again directed by Hawks, again starring John Wayne with this time Jack Elam co-starring. The first one is the best!
Both of these were on the TV the other day.

I'd forgotten about this gem of a movie, I did see it at the cinema but re-discovered it today
on Amazon prime ( It's well worth a watch ) Antony Hopkins is a guy who kills his wife, is found
with the smoking gun in hand and even confesses ....... then the twist and turns begin.... -{

What I saw on Prime recently was Despite the Falling Snow. I was lured in by its promise of being a "Cold War spy thriller" and by the presence of the gorgeous, talented Rebecca Ferguson in a rare lead role. . .alas, this is little more than a tepid soap opera, and Ferguson is as wasted in the lead as she often is in her supporting roles.
The African Queen which of course takes its name from the ship used by haughty missionary Katherine Hepburn to chug down river with water rat Humphrey Bogart as the skipper, cast against type.
It's well shot on location by John Huston and you can or have to get by the fact that both characters are meant to be English, with Bogart as a cockney, but you wouldn't know it. David Niven tells a good story about this film in his memoirs.
It all goes a bit Fleming's Live and Let Die towards the end, not sure if this film preceded it.
* Yes it did, by just two or three years.

Uncle Charlie played by Joseph Cotton, being very creepy,
and young Charlie, played by Teresa Wright. Wright is not blonde, and is more of a wide eyed innocent than the usual Hitchcock heroine.
Young Charlie lives in a idealised small American town with her idealised small town family and friends, and is overjoyed when her favourite Uncle Charlie shows up to stay after not having been seen for years.
But Uncle Charlie keeps saying creepy things, and there's a pair of detectives hanging round, and young Charlie quickly sees that her uncle is not who she always believed him to be. And Uncle Charlie quickly sees that young Charlie sees that too, but the rest of the family is placidly unaware of the tension in the household.
And yes this one features a staircase, too.
Hitchcock named this as his favourite of his own films.
I found it quite watchable. Not 'Goodfellas' but it killed a couple of hours. Only just seen it took a hammering with the critics but I didn't think it was that bad. John Travolta was reasonable. Stacy Keach is always good. The only bit of casting i thought was a bit odd was John Gotti Jnr.

I've never seen the actual movie but I did watch a behind the scenes thing that showed the cast working out and how intense their schedule was.
