    He also plays the henchman in DEADLIER THAN THE MALE. You can catch this film periodically on TRIO.

    I am also interested in finding out any info on Milton Reid.
    I have come across a good US website "Movies Unlimited" and have obtained some otherwise unavailable films starring Milton.
    I understand he was also a professional wrestler although I do not know what name he wrestled under.
    Do you know of any sites with good quality photos?

    Milton Reid was England's answer to Woody Strode.
    Like Strode , Milton Reid was once a professional wrestler with a powerful physique and also shaved his head bald.
    Both played similar roles playing different ethnicities including chinese but Woody Strode obviously got more in the acting mode.

    Milton Reid was an unusual actor , very menacing looking at times.
    He had that look that he could crush you in an instant.
    In the Curt Jurgens film "Ferry To Hong Kong" When playing Mr Yen the partner in crime of Johnny ? played by Roy Chiao , he was the original mean dude , the best moment in the film is when you hear the footsteps come up the gang way onto the ferry and Ried appears.
    He looked very convincing as an Asian and even though there was some make up to make him look more Asian for the part , I always wondered what his ethnic background was.
    Was he mixed race ?
    He had more than 100 credits

    From memory I can recall a few roles that Milton Reid played.

    He was in
    * The Spy Who Loved Me (Sandor)
    * Dr No - ( Guard ? )
    * Casino Royale - ( Guard ? )
    * Blood On Satans Claw (Dog Handler)
    * Ferry To Hong Kong (Yen , (Johnny ?'Played by Roy Chiao') partner in crime.)
    * Confessions Of A Pop Performer (Heavy)
    * Circus Of Death (Circus Strongman)
    * Target Harry (Henchman)
    * 55 Days At Peking (Boxer ?)
    * Night Creatures (Mulatto)
    * Swiss Family Robinson ? (Pirate)
    * Dr Phibes (Which one ?) (Guard / Servant)
    and many more and some Hammer films.
    Also appeared in an episode or two of Jason King.
    More than likely The Avengers and others similar.
    I have a feeling that he may also have appeared in Dr Who at some time in the sixties.
    He was also in the released or unreleased film Rock n Roll Circus .
    In the book of the film there is a picture of him sitting with The Rolling Stones .
    Possiby next to Mick Jagger.

    wow thanks for all the info, he lead an intresting life. how did you no all this?
  • fixintogofixintogo Posts: 3MI6 Agent
    Well I always liked watching action but I like the movies from the the sixties best.
    I think that Milton Reid , Woody Strode and a couple of others were the Prototype of the modern physical movie tough guy.
    And in real life !
    I suppose that I had a memory for actors that I liked watching.
    Even though I saw the Swiss Family Robinson film first , I remembered Milton Reid mostly for his role as Johnny Sing-Up's partner in Ferry To Hong Kong.
    Even though Miltion Reid's carachter "Yen" sort of fades and has a nasty end , the impact in the beginning is great.
    Certainly one Menacing guy .
    Anyway I saw a picture of Milton Reid fighting with Roger Moore in Australasian Fighting Arts magazine in the late 70's or Early 80's , and that reminded me at the time that he was still around.
    Then of course I saw him from time to time in various movies.
    Milton Reid is ... well was the kind of guy that you would easily recognise.
    Bald head very strong shoulders and stocky powerful physique.
    What I didn't know though was that he was born in India.
    Possibly he may be Anglio-Indian then.
    I always thought that he may have been Eurasian.
    I would like to know more on him.
    He is a bit obscure , by the way a few years before he died Woody Strode co wrote his Biography "Goal Dust" with Sam Young.
    Interesting to discover along with the common knowledge that Strode had Native American blood as well as African American , that he married a Hawaiian princess.
    Also his transition from Football to Pro Wrestling to acting.

    Well Milton Reid doesn't seem to have anything written about him in book form.
    But I would say that his story could be just as interesting s that of Woody Strode.

    Ayway a classic menace of a James Bond Villain.

    Milton Reid was also a professional wrestler who went under the name "The Mighty Chang".
    I remember the St Bruno Pipe Tobacco ads in the 70s. Behind the guy being chased by the women, there was always a squat, bald heavy. I think this was Milton but cannot find any reference to this anywhere.
    He played the ultimate menacing thug; certainly not someone to mess with.

    Oh, and for autographs, if you're willing to spend plenty of money;

    As you quite rightly pointed out, they are highly expensive. But it's unlikely you'll find autographs anywhere else.

    Is £250 a good price for a 8x10 bond shot signed by Milton Reid. I haven't really got the money but don't want to pass up a chance if it's a good price which I think it is.

    That is about the right price yes, his and Harold Sakata are about the same prices.

    Did you buy it?

    I have him but only on an Index Card.
  • s96024s96024 Posts: 1,519MI6 Agent
    I haven't yet, I'm thinking about it.

    If you do, that would be a good investment for your collection!

    I'm after Adolfo Celi's but his autograph is extortionate, around £400 - £690. Ouch!

    :))

    Celi is one of the most sought after. Bondcollectibles are doing an 11 X 14 US lobby card for £350. Expensive but unbelievably rare. I really have to cut down on what I'm spending atm though.

    That isn't too bad a price actually, your correct.... he is very rare... possibly the king of rare ones! 8-)
  • s96024s96024 Posts: 1,519MI6 Agent
    He is obviously trying to get rid of it, but had no takers, you never know he might drop the price more.

    I'm lucky enough to have 4 of Milton's signatures, for which I have included scans. He was always a rare signature as I'm sure many will know.

    Because of the interest in Adolfo celi, I thought I'd post the photo and card I got from him when I was in college back in 1969 (yes...obviously I'm much older than any of you others!) This was one of my very first autographs--after Lotte lenya, Harold Sakata and Sean Connery.

    Wow - that is awesome that piece you have of Adolfo Celi there Steve!

    It's a nice letter he's written too, and the photo is nice also (makes a change from the Bond shots.)

    Yourself, Mark, Alex (BondCollectibles) and Laurence (who has since 'retired' from collecting) - have amazing collections! How many signatures do you have in your collection?

    I have signed pieces from about 1,050 DIFFERENT Bond cast & crew. Rather than collect multiples on an individual star, I've always been interested in searching for a variety of some of the more obscure, minor stars. They also seem much more appreciative (or is it baffled?) to hear from fans. The ones I treasure the most are letters & photos from Harold Sakata, Reggie Carter (Mr. Jones, DR. NO), the Crab Key patrol boatman and the tambourine player at the El Scorpio nightclub in the GOLDFINGER pre-title.

    sorry, just realized I've been violating the Milton Reid thread! I have a fairly long biography on him somewhere that I'll search for and post. He was an interesting mixture of half Indian and Scottish. See IMDB for some other interesting details. He definitely deserves an in-depth biography as part of British cinema! He's a classic British character actor... my first memories of him were in SWISS FAMILY ROBINSON and NIGHT CREATURES (CAPTAIN CLEGG in the U.K.) I have a signature of him (inscribed to another fan) and he states that he would "love to play Mussolini".

    Fantastic Celi photo and letter - that's a one in a million!

    As said before, you have an amazing collection Steve - very interesting, particularly those of the 'obscure' actors/actresses!
