Hello RogueAgent, happy holidays and no apologies needed. I only know about the Seiko watches because I own the Seiko TV watch from Octopussy and am searching for the other that's mentioned in the post. The only analog Bond watch I own is the James Bond Omega 40th anniversary watch. Most of the other analog watches are very very expensive - I've been collecting for many years. You can see some of my stuff in the James Bond Memorabilia & collecting section(page 3 topic - what does your bond shrine look like..?). If you go to pages 3 and 4 of this thread you'll see some of my pics of my bond items including the Omega. Take care and keep collecting.

My Bond shrine wouldn't even be considered "modest" compared to the standards that have been set by quite a few members on these boards ). I do own a couple of Omega watches; one the Seamaster, the other Geneve. A few movie posters and scraps here and there. Gotta work on getting together more memorabilia...

Thanks for the referral to this thread, Lady Rose -- to which you see I'm quite late.
Looking at the Posts here in reverse, I guess my question is, "What is the thinking behind how James Bond ends up w/ a watch?" For example, we see that he has automobiles w/ gadgets "issued" by Q-Branch (eg, the BMWs). But when he makes his own selections, it's the Bentley in the early films, and the DB5 in the later films. Again, I guess Q apparently has some input (radio phone in "FRWL" and color fax in "GoldenEye").
When Bond selects his own watch, is it a Pulsar digital, as he starts out w/ in "LALD" before Q re-issues his repaired Rolex? In "DAD," he seems almost paasive about being given his 20th Omega by Q, and also when he picks up the Chinese version in "TND."
My opinion is that his watch is a tool. It needs to serve him in what he does, which means a rugged, diver's watch. But also must be versatile, in that it must go from salt water to casino; scuba gear to tuxedo. So, one watch. Suggests something understated (I've always felt the "current" Omega Seamasters w/ blue dial and bezel) were a bit over the top. Also far to hard to read for someone who needs at-a-glance time keeping. Probably on a metal bracelet, as it wears better than the leather straps of "DN" and "GoldenEye," and even the NATO straps.
Thanks for considering my late contributions here.
In hopes of being helpful here, the "GoldenEye" watch is an Omega Seamaster 2541.80 quartz model, MSRP $1595 plus tax. (Legitimate sources can give you at least 20% off of that.)
In the last three films, through "Die Another Day," Pierce Brosnan wears the Omega Seamaster 2531.80 automatic chronometer. That's an MSRP of $1995, w/ same comment on discounting as above.
There is an unofficial website dedicated to Omega watchs, and the contributors there are great both in terms of helping you evaluate "previously owned" watches you may be considering, as well as identifying sources for the best deals on new purchases. I am providing the link for that here as well.
I was actually about to buy my first Omega (Seamaster Chronometer) recently but thought i'd wait until the next official BOND watch is announced before i do.

As someone who studies the industry and Omega watches in particular, let me offer the following. First, there is a $200 price hike on its way for the Omega Seamaster line, of which the 2531.80 (automatic) and 2541.80 (quartz) "Bond" watches are a part. I hear that some Authorized Dealers are already "recognizing" this, by which I mean, at a minimum, they are not giving the common 20% discount off MSRP that we see on new, w/ full warranty, watch sales.
Second, there are a number of insiders who believe that Omega will discontinue the 2531.80 in April. A similar model will be released, also an automatic chronometer, but with the Omega "co-axial" movement -- which means a watch $1,000 more expensive than the current offering.
So those are the arguments in favor of buying a 2531.80 (the current Omega Seamaster Bond watch) now.
Conversely, the Casino Royale watch, while it definitely will not be the 2531.80, may well be something looking virtually identical, ie, the co-axial version I mentioned above. That would not be my guess, but I offer it as information.
looking through other Bond websites it appears that Omega are continuing with the supply of watches.
omega have rumourd to suggest it will be the new Planet Oceane.
Omega is definitely confirmed (per contract and public statements) to be continue as James Bond's watch in Casino Royale.
When you say that there's a "rumor" that that watch will be the Planet Ocean, on what is that based? How recent?
I ask because, despite filming that starts in less than a week, there continues to be a seemingly deliberate "fog" around release of information on the final choice, and insistance that 3 watches (only one of which is the Planet Ocean and another being a complete departure from the diver's watch direction) remain in consideration.
Rolex watches (other than the diving models) are for second-hand car dealers and spivs. If you are serious about spending a couple of thousand dollars there are many smaller Swiss brands that make lovely watches - Ebel and Baume et Mercier immediately spring to mind. No 007 connection, clearly, but certainly more esoteric and interesting than a Rolex. Don't be a sheep! 8-)
Here in the UK, many BMW dealers were given Omega Bond watches at the time of the TND film to celebrate BMW's involvement and to reward them for their performance. It's a lovely watch (I wear mine pretty regularly) but do you really want to look like a BMW salesman? 8-)
James Bond's nicest watch was in Live and Let Die, the Rolex Submariner. Next was in all of the Sean Connery movies, that model of a Rolex Submariner.
I'm mulling this over in my mind right now. Only, do you stick w/ the 5513 Submariner, which is the actual model watch in Live and Let Die, or it's current version(s), the 14060 and 14060M? In my opinion, the sapphire crystal makes the 14060-series more authentic, per the "knuckle-duster" reference w/ which we're all familiar. I also think that Connery established the no-date Rolex as the preference: It says "Rolex" in the field, as opposed to "Used Car Salesman Rolex" -- per the date bubble.

Wow-- now there's a thought....
"If the topic of James Bond watch were open to consider any brand, what should it be?"
One earlier poster mentioned the Submariner watch. Did Bond ever wear a Submariner? That is indeed a nice watch.
Also, can anyone tell me what watch Bond wore in 'Goldeneye'?
In Goldfinger Bond's Rolex Submariner does not have the date, so this picture is the wrong model. In Sean Connery's Bond movies his watch has a NATO strap, not a buckle and links. And by the way, in Dr. No, James Bond's Rolex was actually Harry Salzman's watch. Just a interesting tidbit of information.
As stated earlier Connery,Moore and Dalton all wore Rolex and it was indeed a Submariner.
I absolutely love my seamaster, its beautiful and I think the design will be timeless for years to come. The cheapest you can get one in the UK is about £900, jewellers selling them for RRP of about £1200 will usually got to between £900 - 950. Value really, it'll last a lifetime and no batteries. The quartz version is cheaper still obviously, RRP about £850 I think. Exact same watch just with quartz movement.

Don't buy a Seamaster Omega. If you are going to spend that much on a watch, get a Rolex.
