I just noticed that too. Have to wait until May of 2007.

*edited* I've posted this earlier. Sorry Hardyboy. I didn't know this topic exists. ^^
*edited* Okay, I found some pics of the upcoming movie, but I don't like all of them.

OK, Lyle; but, as I wrote in that now-closed topic, this is NOT an official trailer. It's a well-crafted fan-made trailer that borrows clips from the earlier Spidey films (and other movies, I think) and doctors them so the red-and-blue costume is now black. If it ain't on the Sony site--which it isn't--and hasn't appeared on sites like Rotten Tomatoes, IMDb, and the like, it's not official.

Yeah, I saw the trailer before Superman Returns today anfd thought it looked promising.

    Countdown begins...
Mrs. Man Face: "You wouldn't hit a lady? Would you?"

Batman: "The Hammer Of Justice is UNISEX!"
-Batman: The Brave & The Bold -

Looks cool indeed. I especially enjoyed the sight of a huge, towering Sandman--and was I seeing things, or was that the Goblin glider plowing into the wall?

The film looks promising but I for one am tired of Peter's angst and his relationship problems. I know that's an integral part of the comic but it just drags these movies down for me (Superman Returns falls victim to the same thing to a large degree).

Call me shallow, but I prefer to see my heros in action. If I want unrequited love and teen angst, I'll watch Lifetime and MTV. Maybe that's why I enjoyed X-Men3 more than its predecessors.

But having interesting characters you care about makes the action more exciting and more real, doesn't it? Otherwise it's just mindless bangs and flashes. It's another level on top which only adds to the emotional response.

Caring about the characters is important but for me Spiderman 2 just layed it on too thick: Peter has to be a pizza delivery boy to make ends meet, Peter loses his job, the girl of his dreams gets engaged to someone else, Aunt May can't get a loan to pay her mortgage, Aunt May can't get that free toaster, Peter is about to flunk out of school, and on and on. Even when he got a drink at the party, the glass was empty. Raimi just kept piling the grief on and on and at some point it all got to be too much for me.

I've read the comic and as I said I know that it's part of his character, and I know the whole "with great power comes great responsibility" thing, but watching the movie, it all got too depressing for me.

For me, the 1978 Superman is the pinnacle of superhero movies. That had drama (Pa Kent's death still moves me to this day) but it also had humor and warmth and adventure and it was just plain fun to watch. For all he went thru, Superman never really found being a hero a burden in that movie, he enjoyed it (there's even a great scene in the director's cut where he talks to Jor El about the vanity that goes with being a hero).

Like so many things, it's just a matter of preference. I prefer these kinds of movies to be more fun and uplifting, even at the cost of character development. That's why I hope Spiderman 3 pulls back a bit on the angst.

The sad part is I didn't make that up. I remember that scene and I remember the loan officer telling her she can't get the toaster because her account didn't have enough money.

Now if my mother couldn't pay her bills and I had those powers, believe me, I wouldn't leave her out in the cold like that.

Oh, I remember it alright. And it was funny then. I remember looking at that part onscreen and saying: "When is this old bag going to get it?" :))

It did sort of hit you with bad news after bad news. I agree it was slightly overdone with the whining.

I slo-mo'd the quicktime movie and it looks like Harry Osborn was on the Goblin Glider, fighting with Peter Parker (who was in a regular suit, not dressed as Spiderman).

I thought it was Harry carrying on the tradition of his dad. The one thing that excites me about this film. Always loved Green Goblin.

You all know once major comic films get to more than one villian in it, it can be a thin ice situation. I think that the Sandman effects will be cool.

Well if Sam Raimi takes a page out of the Bryan Singer concept, Parker may discover that Harry was secretly having an affair with Aunt May or something whacked like that... :))

I can see it now: Peter goes to pay his aunt a visit after dueling with Venom and is startled to see his best friend and aunt naked in bed together with Aunt May playing role games wearing the Goblin's mask. :D

Hollywood and creative genius is clearly subjective... 8-)

And here I thought nothing could be more disturbing than seeing Daniel Craig in a tux.

You're making it very hard for me to get any work done today. :))

No harm done. If all this has helped you wash away the bad taste Superman Returns left, then it was time well spent.

Now it seems like next summer will never get here for this potential blockbuster.

I really hope that Raimi blows this out of the water.

Besides the conclusion of Pirates, what other comp is coming out next summer against Spidey 3? IMO, outside of Supes and Pirates this season, it's been pretty anemic in the blockbuster category...

Yeah, if they hope to get it out any time in 2007 they'd better start booking it. They supposedly have a script and Peter Jackson is producing but they still have no cast and no director (although it is rumored that Guilermo del Toro is close to signing on).

I really can't say if a film like this is even in Toro's caliber seeing that he's hit-or-miss with his past ventures IMO.

I'd prefer Ridley Scott(Blade Runner/Gladiator) to take on that project. Problem is that he might be too old to associate with the younger audiences that actually covet and play the game. The key to success on this venture is keeping it in tune with the masses while adding your creative vision to the mix. Harder to juggle than one might think.

You know videogames are taken rather lightly for some reason or another.

Another thing I hope doesn't happen but it will...Whomever plays Master Chief, watch them take off his helmet so that the viewers can see who he is. It never fails in instances like this. That's the mystery of the character in the game; you want to see who he is but you're ok if you don't.

They made this same boo boo when Stallone unveiled in Judge Dredd. You never see Dredd's face in the comic! That's a no-no! :))
