This article was reprinted in Bondage Magazine - Number 13, 1984. You can find copies on eBay. It has Connery on the cover from NSNA (looking through bushes).

I don't know where to find it online. Sorry.

I was lucky to pick up the above mentioned issue of Bondage for about 5 or 6 dollars. I found a stack of them dusty and long ignored in the back crevices of a Guitar slash used comics shop.

Really those magazines are trips to Bond heaven because of the printings of Ian Fleming's journalistic outputs. I found his articles as fascinating as his novels.

Wouldn't it be a dream if someone gets the rights to compile all of Fleming's writings outside of his novels and short stories? This "How to..." treatist, for one, then his letter to Cubby Broccoli with suggestions for characterizing Bond for the upcoming films, his letters to Geofrey Boothroyd, his "notebook" and the drafts and miscellaneous writings in the Lilly Library's Fleming Collection, etc. etc. And in the future, we may even get to see some declassified manuals and mission orders Fleming wrote while in Navy Intelligence and his legendary "blueprint" for the future CIA.

I haven't seen that article, but you might want to look for Peter Fleming's rare 1952 novel, The Sixth Column, a dark spy spoof in which a character not unlike Ian Fleming details his fool-proof formula for a pop-lit action thriller hero, and the psychology behind it. The first James Bond novel came out less than a year later! Peter Fleming, although now almost forgotten, was, like his brother Ian, a real spook, and also a famed explorer and a very popular authorin his time.

I was lucky to run across a short story by Peter Fleming once. It was entitled The Kill - and was written sometime in his twenties or thirties.

I remember reading The Sixth Column in the 60s and finding it very hard going (still got it in my bookcase), but found Peter Fleming's "travel" books fascinating, but best of all was his biography by Duff Hart-Davis.

i have a copy of the internet posting from 10 years ago. it also
talked about the details of bond - the brand of cigerettes, and
the toast. i think part of your article posted might be missing.
of course, it's late and maybe i misread it.

if anyone's desparate , i'll dig it out ever the next weekend and
get it out. it is a great article.

Any interest in this article by Ian Fleming. Faulks and Deaver could certainly have done with giving it a read, and I do hope that Boyd sees it too!

Well, I think that the 2008 book compilation of Fleming journalistic pieces etc. printed by Queen Anne's Press entitled Talk of the Devil may have delivered this already, but not at an affordable price as yet - which is a real crime in itself!
