I then remembered the photo of Brosnan with Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson. I dug out my Essential Bond book and found the pic from when Brosnan was just cast (when he still had long hair and the beard). They are the exact same height. Both a little taller than Wilson and alot taller than Broccoli.
This matches the imdb and other sites stats that both actors are 6 foot. So Daniel Craig's height is not an issue.

I don't want you to get the idea I am picking on who, but how do you explain that pictures from GQ awards were Brosnan looks much taller than Craig?
brosnan was probaly the worst bond of al in ge i thought sean bean would have made a better 007 he tried to be like connery but lacked the grittiness he lacked the genuine humour of moore so i for one will be glad to see the back of him and i think craig will be outstanding just like dalton who is without doubt the best of all the bonds

DC is, IMHO, almost a Sean Bean-style take on casting.

It isn't enough to make money, they 'must' get truly excellent Box Office returns. Do you really think that if Casino Royale limps to a £250 million box office it will be seen as a success because it made money? Especially after DAD did $450m.
Isn't £250m about $450m ? Your point is lost on me.
Oodles of fun to be had over on aintitcool website, with our old mate Red Grant popping up (and bizarrely finding space to criticise his old idol Brosnan) and new boy Craig compared to everything from Lazenby to Putin via Hilary Clinton's labial folds...
Quoting Predator
DAD was a very expensive and yet very lucrative Hollywood action film. If I want a Hollywood action film, I do not watch a Bond film.
______________________________________________
I find that strange since IMO every Bond picture since GF has been a Hollywood action movie. Stunts, car chases, fights, gun battles to me is action. How do you classify Bond pictures?
If you take your time to look around, you will see (far too) many of my posts in which I have described my take on DAD ... I don't want to trawl that all up again here and throw us completely off topic
Brosnan's box office numbers in dollars - GE $353,000, TND $346,00, TWINE $396,000 and the mother of all DAD $456,000. Assuming inflation I think it would be fair to say CR should make at least what GE did, to not be considered a flop. I think that is more than fair.

Very funny site. No joking here, I almost wet my bed from laughing! Anyway, very interesting views from "contemporary" minds, to put it nicely, and truly telling of public reaction to Craig, the relevance of Bond today and the fact that someone thinks Craig looks like a caucasian Jackie Chan.

I would check your numbers, first, unless those box office figures include 3 more zeros - DAD grossed something like $424 million.
And that aintitcool website had some very funny posts. It's hysterical to read what uninformed people think and say about Bond. One post said they shouldn't have the books be the plots - little does he/she know that a majority of the Bond films are based on the books! It's quite funny, and sad, that people will say anythiing even when they know so little about a subject just for the sake of saying something.

The irony of it all, is that these people "uninformed about Bond" represent the market segment being targeted by EON. Do you think that first and foremost, they have the "informed" Bond fans in mind? Of all Bond movie viewers, I wonder what the percentages are of those who can name all 20 movies in sequence, or all past 5 Bond actors, or to really stretch it, the percentage of movie patrons who've read at least one Bond novel? When you and I fall in line on opening day to watch CR, chances are that the day's sensory intake of the Joe Thrashers and Buffy Radgirls sitting behind you, will unceremonially get lumped together with their memories of the Dukes of Hazard and The Fog.
My point is, whether you are a hard core fan, or one who just has a passing interest like these posters, many people seem to share a common preconception about the Bond character, and opinions about Craig's looks is pretty recurrent. If you check Internet news articles from around the world, this view on Craig's shortcomings has even transcended cultural boundaries.

Im not one of the "Buffy Radgirls" I'm one damn dedicated Bond fan...and I just can't warm up to Dan. Sorry. People at school know that if they challenge me to Bond trivia, they will be the one walking away in defeat.
Come on guys, i dont think Daniel will be that bad, i mean after Die Another Day?!? We are going to have to live with it at the end of the day, it might not be so bad, i mean maybe it's time for a change? I'm gonna give Daniel the benefit of the doubt

It's so reassuring that Bond fanatacism can be boiled down so easily to a trivia quiz
This guy is so little of a person/choice I would have even casted/think to become bond,
That I have started to love to seem him as bond.
It's kinda hard to explain
That's why I like roger moore as bond, cause he is somebody not expected: he was old (after playing some bond's of course).....
I repeat It's kinda hard to explain
But I was very very schocked when I saw this (Bond is blond and fierce looking)!
Specially because I have seen road to perdition last week for the first time.
(:) I mean this guy's face is fierce and not pierce, Only christopher walken and willem dafoe can compete with him in this sense.
This guy has a Sir roger moore touch and he might be a good bond, cause he looks different than everybody else and all actors.
His face is just different, so when you see him you will say hey... james bond.

Since I was the one who made the distinction, allow me to clarify. I used hyperbole to differentiate Bond fans from those who are less inclined, but would go and watch a Bond movie on its opening weekend. If you have a line of people waiting in line at the CR box office and for some reason, needed to separate the die-hard Bond fans (AJB regulars, for example) from the rest, would you not agree that quizzing everyone to name all the Bond movies in sequence would accomplish the job? Why would anyone know the answer unless he/she happens to know it as a result of being a Bond fan, unless that person took a compulsury film class in which Bond trivia is quizzed?
I'm merely touching on EON's expressed business strategy to court segments outside of the traditional Bond demographics, i.e., baby boomers, and if it's all about meeting the bottom line, forget about us Bond fans! But, make sure that you're taking care of the needs and wants of Joe Thrasher and Barbie Radgirl, the likes of whom post on the aintitcoolnews website.

I agree with you, superado, but that's the reality of the movie business. The Bond movie that will please purists could very well be the same film that alienates the rest of the market. Of my friends, very few know anything about Bond - mistaking GE for GF, never hearing of OHMSS or Lazenby, etc - so it is no wonder to me that the general public just wants "another" action film and can't appreciate the history or formula of Bond.
i think craig wil be good remember fleming thought connery would be no good and he was bald and browneyed, scttish and to coarse the rest is history and lets be honest the last three films have been crap
What's wrong with Scotland?
Bond and Fleming were both Scottish. One is the best spy-fi writer ever.
The other is one of the greatest actors ever.
TV and the phone are Scottish.

superdaddy was just drawing comparison to Fleming's reaction to Connery being cast as Bond, he wasn't meaning it from his own perspective. Fleming (who wasn't Scottish, by the way) remarked that Connery would give Bond "the face of a Glaswegian lorry driver". Fleming was less than impressed at the initial casting - it was he who wasn't happy at the Scottishness at first.
superdaddy was simply saying that just as Connery turned out despite that criticism, so will Craig.
:oDaniel Craig is the new James Bond? When did this happen?
I stumbled across a forum the other day called Craig,Daniel Craig. It has seven members and looks set to eclipse brassrubbing.net as the least visited site on the internet. They have a picture of Craig on the homepage in front of a Union Jack. The Union Jack is upside down and an upside down Union Jack is actually a distress signal.

Did he really? Hilarious -- It really reminds me of some of the slams against Craig. And just a few years later, Fleming writes an "obituary" in YOLT that gives Bond a Scottish father. Quite a tribute to Connery's turn in the role. Let's hope Craig pull off the same with his naysayers
