Life on Mars

Has anyone been watching this on BBC1? Mondays? 9:00pm?
A guy is in a car accident and when he wakes up he's in 1973.
I missed the first 2 episodes but I've been watching it since then and think it's great.
Has anyone else being watching it?
It's going to be released on DVD in October.
Repeats from the beginning of the series will start on Monday night/Tuesday morning's at 1:40am-2:40am. Best to set a video to tape.

Man I love that show, its soo cool. Its like the only thing I watch on tv now (except for random movies) do you know if they are doing another series after this one?

Woohoo! A fellow fan - I hope there's more too.

I'm pretty sure they are. My dad heard the guys who play Sam and Gene on Radio 2 whilst he was at work, and they were talking about it. I'm sure he said they were doing a second series, meaning that even when this series is finished, it's unlikely we'll know whether Sam has travelled through time, is in a coma, or has simply gone insane.

I don't watch much else either. I watch it on a Monday night and tape it, then watch it again Tuesday afternoon, whilst having some hot chocolate.

) I just did the first time then decided I liked it so continue.

Man I can't wait till Monday night.

any hoo, by your avatar I can see you are also a fan of Doctor Who...well then thats something else we have in common. When does the next series for that start up?

I don't think it starts till late March. But still, it's getting ever closer.

I get the magazine and from the clues they're giving it sounds fantastic! It'll finally be back and I'll have something to get me through the week.

They're showing the older episodes on UKTVGold if you've got it. Weekend morning's at 8 on replay.
Back to Life on Mars, that is also a problem, getting through school on Monday - I don't want to go!

But I'll have the confort of watching Sam and Gene at the end of it.

There is to be a 2nd series of Life on Mars. I read an article which said the BBC had commissioned it. I cant wait to see it, this 1st series has been a blast. John Simm is so good in the part.

They're reshowing them - you're in luck.

BBC1 Monday night/Tuesday morning. 1:40am starts tomorrow with the first 1 again.

I cant believe you've missed the rest of the series. It's the best thing the BBC have made for years. I'm not just saying that coz I'm from Manchester and I grew up in the 70's {[]

Me and my mate spent all lunch talking about it today.
On Saturday I had an interesting chat with my dad about the '70s.

I learnt more about the rock music, and what it was like at Led Zepllin and David Bowie concerts, when the fans got drunk

What would you guys say your favourite episode was so far? If you post after tonights episode, don't count it yet.

I liked episode 6. It might change once I've seen tonights or the first one, but that's now. I thought it was great last week. Sam's phone call and then the message 'someone's going to die at 2 o'clock'. Then Gene got shot!

That had gotta be the best bit!

No I loved the first episode and he goes into that record shop and he sees that foam stuff then they realise why they haven't heard anything from that guys flat. Then the girl is tied up in there and the whole house has been covered in the foam

I saw the first episode last night (or maybe this morning) and it was great!
Hey - you know that guy in the record booth? He's my mates uncle!

He and her dad sometimes play extras and they decided to do Life on Mars. Her dad was in episode 2, but just as some guy drinking in a pub - he plays a lot of guys drinking in a pub.

Well episode 7 was great I thought. Lots of suspense and very dark I thought. I liked the part when they went round to see Kemble's sister and Gene goes soemthing like,
"Hello love. DCI Hunt. How are you darling? Just came round to talk to you about how your brother copped it,"

I'm terrified I'm gonna have a heart attack or something with the excitement of next week's episode.

) It'd be pretty awful to wake up in 1973 for me too!

) But I took the website's test and it said:

The closest I've got is my several dreams of waking up in 1966, '68 and of course '73.

OMG! The last episode was amazing! Did anyone else see it?

I could never have guessed that it would end like that!
I noticed something though: when Sam's younger self turns round and you see the back of his head only, he has really short hair. If it was 1973, he wouldn't have his hair that short!

OK but besides that I personally haven't noticed anything - my mates have told me stuff. like the reason most of the houses were covered in ivy was to hide the satelite dishes.

I like those last lines, "The pub,"

What can I say, the last episdoe was simply amazing. People probally wont believe me, but as the episode went on, you just knew Sams dad was THE Villian. Full marks to the BBC for this series, they normally produce utter ****e, but this was worth the licence fee alone. Gene just gets better and better. Series Two is too far away

BBC 4 is basing a whole week of 1973 themed programmes and films around a re-run of Life On Mars. The first episode is scheduled for 10.05pm tonight (Sunday April 2). Four more episodes are scheduled from Monday to Thursday at 10pm.

Life On Mars started again on Tuesday 13th February. It's gonna be on every Tuesday BBC One at 9pm and BBC FOUR at 10pm.
Also, the soundtrack is available from Monday 19th February, with all the songs that featured in the first series, including Wings and David Bowie.

On the first couple of episodes of the new series, the end of the first one really has mucked up what I thought was going on.

Which I think is really great on the writers part though.

My son and I both checked this show out every week last summer when it aired on BBC America and we both liked it.

We hope that they show the second season for this.

Quite a lot of this programme is filmed very near to where I live. I've never watched it but I'm told it's a very good series.

You should see it Sir M. You might miss out because there is now some history between the characters out of the first series, but it is an exceptional show.

That's the main reason why I won't bother with this second series. I know that the first season has been repeated on other channels already - so I'll wait until someone I know buys it on DVD

A lot of ambiguity in the Life On Mars ending last night. I've already read about five different theories about what it all meant. Was Sam from 1973 afterall? Did he die at the end, the test card girl 'turning' off his life-support? Is 1973 heaven? Was he just in a coma in 2006 all along and everything a dream?

"The truth is, when I wrote it, what I was trying to say is that's he's died, and that for however long that last second of life is going to be, it will stretch out for an age, as an eternity for him. And, so, when he drives off in that car, he's really driving off into the afterlife."

I realy enjoyed Life on Mars. Gene Hunt is a terrific character ( even if he is reminicent of Jack Regan ) and Philip Glenister has made him extremely watchable.

I'll be tuning into the spin off series 'Ashes to Ashes' when it surfaces. Gene Hunt in my favourite era, the'80's. 'Ray,fire up the Quattro '

Agreed, Dear Lady.

Very sorry to see the end of Life on Mars. But I'm delighted that DCI Gene Hunt lives on, undoubtedly one of the best characters on TV for ages, wonderfully portrayed by Philip Glenister. Ashes To Ashes is due to surface next year. A female detective from the present is involved in an accident and then 'wakes up' in London in 1981.

What an absolutely blisteringly awesome series Life On Mars was. I think it's safe to say that it's already in the annals of history as one of TV's greats - and they're few and far between these days. Every episode was gripping and the characters, even the morally dubious ones, were connectable.

Fabulous ending too - and I was worried that that's where it would all go horribly wrong. {[]
