Can you really expect any decent well known games on Xbox?
At least with Nintendo and Sony you know at some point you will definatly get a Mario, Zelda, GT, GTA, and so on..... these are the games I wait for!
The main put off for an Xbox 360 is the lack of well known and quality games. I'm not sure any really take my fancy even a shoddy Perfect Dark 2. Which had too much to live up to i'm afraid!. Microsoft must definatly be losing a bucket load of cash (which they can afford) but how people say they will win the next generation console war is outragous!. The nintendo Ds is literally whopping 360's butt! and that is a hand held console ?:)
You're really comparing apples and oranges. The DS is a handheld and aimed at quick gaming experiences. The 360 is a next-gen console with hi-def graphics and a completely different experience. It would be the same as saying a Apple Ipod is better than a plasma TV; they are totally different technologies aimed at different markets.
As for good 360 games, that really is a matter of preference. If you prefer Mario, Zelda, Metroid or Pokemon, then your only choice is Nintendo. I've never cared for any of those franchises (I found them too derivitive or juvenile). On the other hand, the 360 does have a lot of games I love: Project Gotham, Quake, Tomb Raider, and the forthcoming Halo3, Gears of War and Mass Effect to name a few. 360 games can also look spectacular if you have a decent TV that takes advantage of the hardware. So if you gravitate towards those types of experiences the 360 does have a lot to offer.
Also, it's important to remember that the 360 is probably the best compromise of price vs. performance available. The PS3 is ridiculously overpriced and the games look to be prohibitively expensive as well. The Wii is basically a souped up GameCube with a fancy controller. It doesn't support hi-def graphics or true 5.1 surround sound and most games in development for it look posotively hideous. Also, the online multiplayer capabilities of Wii and PS3 are either nonexistent or positively prehistoric compared to Microsoft's already well established infrastructure.
Every console has its plusses and minuses. I can honestly say that I could afford to buy any of the consoles if I really wanted them; but for me, the 360 (despite some lackluster titles lately) is still the console of choice and the only one I plan to own for the forseeable future.

Agreed...the Nintendo games for all systems have been little fun and very juvinile. However, the 360 games are turning out to be great.
However, I wonder why the games have been getting worse...I might check out Okami and see if it is any good, and then boot up the old PS2...

Okami is supposed to be incredible. It looks it, as well. If I had a PS2, I'd buy it.
Looks like Microsoft has made some pretty big announcements today at the Tokyo Games Expo:
- There will be a new RTS game that takes place in the Halo universe.
- The next Splinter Cell game (after Double Agent) and Bioshock are now 360 exclusives.
- There will be exclusive downloadable content for GTA4 thru Xbox Live
- The HD-DVD addon will debut in mid-November for $199.99 (comes with a uni-remote and an HD version of King King).
- The seminal classic Doom is now available thru Xbox Live Arcade and allows for 4 player coop or deathmatch online.
There's a lot more info and tons more announcements as well; looks like MS is really going for it this holiday season.
Oh my god. MS is amazing. I love ALL of that, except for the HALO RTS. Where is my Battlefield Halo?
Night, did you get Doom for XBLA? I already have it from the Doom 3 game, but the XBLA version allows for online co-op so I'm still undecided if I want to take the plunge. The demo ran smooth and controlled great but $10 seems a little steep considering the game's over 10 years old and nothing was done to improve it graphically. Still, I'm a Doom-junkie so it's only a matter of time before I get bored and pick it up.
BTW, I tried the Sonic the Hedgehog demo last night; very disappointing with bland graphics, generic enemies, and some of the worst camera control I've ever seen. Even though Sonic games are supposed to be all about speed, most of the areas are very narrow, there are a ton of blind jumps, and half the time you fall to your death. Blah! Sega has really fallen far.
On the other hand, the Lego Star Wars: The Original Trilogy demo was a blast; I can't decide whether to pick up the game or first play the original Lego Star Wars (which I own but never got to). Decisions, decisions.

Play both. That is a shame about Sonic. I'll have to try. I haven't been on my 360 in a few days, I've been trying out my new laptop too much. But I want to watch the Halo Wars trailer, maybe it will be cool, maybe it will be bad.
it also aapears that you 360 guys will be getting a great pc game, F.E.A.R....Rogue, this is one of those scary shooter and is one of the best games for PC, ill bet youll like it...

There's a free demo up on Xbox Live (as well as movies for a ton of games); I'll try it out this weekend.

I downloaded the demo to F.E.A.R. It's an interesting but an underwhelming demo. I expected more action in it. Not enough of a sample to base a decision to buy. Call of Duty 2 had a great demo. I'll end up getting that game. Dead Rising had a pretty good demo. I'll get that game one day.

Call of Duty 2 was one of the most immersive games I've ever played; you really got the sense that you were part of a squadron and it really made you feel like you were in the middle of a battle. I think you'll like it.
As for Dead Rising, I found it to be a little repetitive. Even though you can come up with hundreds of ways to kill zombies, in the end that's all you pretty much do, along with the occasional mission where you escort somebody who's doing their best to get themselves killed. I got bored of that one pretty quickly.

Wanna send it to me, then, Tony? I'm dying to play it.
I'm sure Tony could kick my ass in a bunch of games. Test Drive may be one of them. Tony, we should play!
I haven't touched that game in a couple of weeks; I just find the races and aimless driving to be very boring. I'm going to give it one more try but I really think I'm going to get rid of it next week.
I've been spending all my time with the original Lego Star Wars (beat it yesterday) and I just bought Doom for Xbox Live; I think I've owned that game on every platform, but I can never get enough of it.

Haha, cool. Check marketplace, you can now download the prequel characters to play in LSW 2.

I'll probably get LSW2 (and maybe The Godfather) next weekend; between now and then I want to go thru the Xbox/360 games I have and weed out the deadwood for some store credit.

I'll try to force myself to run a few races tonight, but I make no promises. The fastest car in my garage is an Ascari that tops out at 198 mph so hopefully I'll be able to hold my own with that.
I really wish the roads and other traffic in TDU were modelled as nicely as the cars you buy. I picked up a Chrysler 300C and the interior is a dead ringer for my real car.

I've got your Ascari beat, but I won't play with my best cars.

Is that really an accomplishment? This is Tony we're talking about.
What are you waiting for JFF, doesn't the subscription expire soon???

I think we'll need to play with a handicap...maybe about 30mph. )
