Ive been playing some Just Cause recently and i am having a ball...the map is huge. I never get bored of playing because there are so manyplaces to go and explore. In addition, the gameplay is very good, despite not recieving the best of ratings...but, i must be off, i need to go sky diving...

Guys, I need insight on something...
I'm on the cusp of renewing my XBOX subscription and I'm also on the cusp of buying a 360 new; should I run my current sub down and just do account recovery with the new one that comes with a free year or does that carry over with my current one if I renew it now? I hope that made sense so please help. ;%

I'm not sure, I'd call Msoft directly, but maybe Tony knows as he is always knowlegdable about these sorts of things.

Thanks, Night. I prefer to wait on the gaming guru Tony's advice first.
I'm too lazy to dial Microsoft just to be put on hold for half an hour.

Assuming you're paying via a credit card, Microsoft automatically renews your subscription every 12 months. To cancel, I think you have to call them by phone and actually speak to a live body. Once you've done that, you may be able to get your free account. I say maybe because Microsoft will probably see that you cancelled and now want to renew with a free Live account and I don't know if they'll go for that. Did that make any sense?
On the other hand, once you get a 360, your current Xbox Live account will transfer over automatically - its good for both the original Xbox and the 360. All you do is go to the 360's dashboard and there's a menu option for recovering your account. Do that and you're all set.
Hope that helped.

So when is this 360 coming, RA? Hmmmmmmmmmm????
And what are you planning to get for it? Make sure to pick up Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter. Best. Online. Play. Ever.

In all honesty Rogue, you could probably go a few weeks just seeing how your old Xbox games like Halo and Doom play on the 360.
Personally, I'd recommend Condemned (you've been wanting to try that for a while), Quake IV (any FPS fan worth his weight needs to check that one out) and Project Gotham 3 (still the best racer on the 360 IMHO). All can be had at reduced prices these days.
Of course, the beauty of Xbox Live is that you'll be able to try out demos to most of these games before you plunk down any cash.
Now get your ass in gear and buy it already.

Well there was a time that I'd buy things off of the cuff like that but I have others to consider now; it sort of ups the ante on my responsibilities so to speak...
Besides,I'm really not in a hurry to have you humiliate me on every disc I shove in the slot anyway. )

I'm sure there will be plenty of games you can beat me at. It is quite possible that you're better at Hold 'Em than I am. I don't have much playing experience.

This is very true, I have played GRAW for literally HOURS on end (online)
Saw an article today (wanted to post it, but can't find it) that said PS3 will eventually outsell XBOX 360, despite the high cost and lack of games at the release of the PS3. Also stated that the next wave of new game consoles is set for 2010. I doubt 2010 will show anything new, perhaps upgrades of current systems. I also believe the PS3 will suffer a sale loss due to the high cost of the console. My opinions are based on nothing more than my personal thinking.

Analysts always speculate, but we'll never REALLY know until the fat lady sings.

I see the Xbox360 and PS3 battle as being very similar to the Sega Genesis and Nintendo SuperNES in the early 90's. The underdog Genesis got a lot of market share because of its head start in the market and even after the SuperNES came out, innovative marketing and good games kept Sega in the lead. However, heading into the mid 90's Sega started releasing way too many consoles (32X, Saturn, GameGear, CDX, etc.) and fragmented itself badly. Nintendo stayed the course with its SuperNES (and GameBoy handheld), priced its hardware and software aggressively, and was able to regain a lot of its market share.
Similarly, the 360 is currently selling well and should have a very good holiday 2006 season for the simple fact that there will be so few PS3's available for purchase. They also have a lot of great software in the pipeline. If Microsoft can keep up the pace (and maybe lower the price of the console in the near future) it could deal Sony a serious blow. But if Microsoft becomes complacent or gets bogged down in releasing additional hardware, it could see its lead evaporate quickly.
There will always be the PS3 fanatics who will get it at any cost (a lot of people actually camped out last week to reserve a PS3). And over time, as the cost of the machine comes down and developers release better software, its sales will no doubt increase even further. It's also important to remember that for Sony the PS3 is as much a trojan horse to get BluRay into the home as it is a videogame console. The success or failure of BluRay as a DVD format will no doubt have some impact on Sony's fortunes and the relative success of the PS3.
But given Microsoft's strong position with the 360 and the positive word of mouth Nintendo's Wii is getting, I think it's safe to say that Sony's days of utterly dominating the home videogame console market are probably over.
Tony, you should write for a Gaming magazine. Your posts to this thread are insightful and easy to understand and read. I also think your opinions are backed up with fact and good sense. If you ever need a reference for a writing gig, let me know, I will be happy to provide one.

Thanks Barry. It may amuse you to know that in my younger and more creative days, I did actually write freelance for some computer magazines. Nice to know my old skills have not completely deserted me. -{

Tony, have you played the Dplinter Cell multiplayer demo? It is impossible to get a versus match but the coop is a lot of fun. I'm getting the game immediately.

I haven't tried it yet as Xbox Live is down for maintenance today. I'll probably buy the game this weekend as part of the "Buy 2 Get 1 Free" promotion at Toys 'R Us.

Whoa, what buy 2 get one free promotion is this????
I posted this on one of the other threads, but here you go...
Starting this weekend (October 22 thru October 28) Toys 'R Us will have a Buy 2 Games, Get 1 Game Free promotion on all its videogames for all its systems, regardless of their price.
The way the promotion works is you pick up three games and when paying, the lowest priced of the three is charged as costing $0.00. If all three games cost the same, the last one rung in is thusly charged. This has become an annual promotion for the chain and you can score some pretty significant savings on your games purchases; there is no limit to the number of games you pick up and every third game is free.

I need SC DA and Just Cause, but what else would I get? Saints Row maybe.
On the topic of of the new splinter cell, ive seen fairly good reviews. gameSpot, which grades pretty strictly gave it a respectable 8.5. I thought at onepoint that it would be for the PC, was that idea scrapped???

IGN gave it a 9.0; so it is getting some good reviews. The game is coming out on several platforms. The EBGames website lists it as coming out on October 24 for the PC. Here's a link:

I think Rogue once mentioned something about a few rounds of Tiger Woods; that assuming he ever gets a 360 that is.
