Heh...I feel old...anyways...anyone excited about the new Superman game??? I really like the huge city you get to play in...

I just played the demo (another awesome 360 thing, I love being able to easily download games) and it is pretty cool. Not great, but good. The flying is fun, but a little glitchy feeling. The combat is a little boring. The graphics are pretty nice, though. The superpowers are also very cool, and the controls are pretty easy to get used to.

Ditto on all counts. My favorite part was actually being able to pick up cars, trucks and other objects and using them as weapons against the robots in the demo level. Superman also has a ton of combos to use in combat. And the experience points you gain after each encounter would suggest some sort of RPG / resource management style way of leveling up your powers. I'm intrigued by the game but I'll definitely wait for a few reviews and maybe a price drop.

I couldn't firgure out the combat combos. Once I did an uppercut, but couldn;t figure out how to do it again.

Hit the Start button to pause the game; one of the choices on the pause menu (you may have to scroll down) shows the basic combos. X + X + X does a thunderclap combo, which can cause quite a bit of damage.
Was watching CNBC last night and they had a story on the "gaming wars". The host had two guests, some guy who was introduced as a hardcore gamer and writes for a magazine and another guy from Game Stop. In short, they discussed who the winner of the game wars was and both guests said Microsoft and the 360. Reasons given were, because of its early release, current easy availablity, second generation games now available, and online capabilities (an issue apparently Sony has yet to work out). The hardcore game guy said the 360 is now the player of choice for the hardcore gamers. They also critized PS3's price point and said Wii was more for younger kids.
Found all of the above interesting and also noticed they were really impressed by Gears of War, a game they described as stunning.
The Game Stop guy said he thinks the 360 will be the #1 player in US and does not see the PS3 overtaking it. However, in Japan and Europe PS3 will eventually overtake it.
In the spirit of Barry's post, here's a little site that's actually tracking sales numbers for all three next gen consoles for anybody curious about how the big three are doing:
As for Gears of War, it just sold its one millionth copy; not bad for only one week. I have the game myself and can attest to the amazing visuals and fun gameplay.
Was just on Amazon.com and they have a promotion starting on Friday at 7 eastern, where they are selling 1,000 Xbox 360 core systems for $100. Not sure how you go about grabbing one, but maybe Rouge and some other can get lucky. You will find the promotion on the Amazon home page when you log in. It will be on the right side of the page. I know the core system doesn't have everything, but $100 seems like a great price to me. Good Luck
I tried, but without luck to get that offer, but to know avail. Ah well, I'll wait til christmas to unwrap my premium 360.
As for superman, terrible reviews. Gamespot gave it a 4.5. Now this other game called Rainbow Six: Vegas looks fantastic. It made my decision of which game to get for my 360 much simpler.

Amazon.com pretty much gound to a halt about 5 minutes before the offer went live; clearly the demand for the deal was overwhelming. Even though I have a DSL connection, by the time I got to the order screen all 1000 units had been sold.

I'm really disappointed with SR's reviews; but I'm hardly surprised. After all, this is Electronic Arts we're talking about. Still, the game looked nice and the flying and superpowers were well done. I might still get this once the price drops significantly.
You know 0064, a lot of games from earlier in the console's life are going to be repackaged as "Greatest Hits" titles and probably sell for around $20. You should be able to bag some nice deals on some very good games in the next few months.
Picked up the following games for the boys today, Gears of War, Project Gotham Racing 3, Call of Duty 2 and Halo 2. I know Halo 2 is not a 360 title, but my son loves it. How did I do?

I think you did great. Gears of War is the IT game of the holiday season, PGR is my favorite racing game for the 360; CoD2 was a great WWII action game and Halo 2, even though it's an original Xbox game, has some great action and visuals. Its also backwardly compatible with the 360 and the console actually upscales the graphics to hi-def. Very good choices all around.
360 guys, quick question about the internet on the 360...
1) How much per year for the XboXlive connection???
2) Do you have to pay to download various things like demos and trailers.
3) How fast are the demos???
I'm just about convinced on the 360, but I'd like to know the fine print... {[]
1) Silver account is free; Gold is $50 per year. With Silver you can download games, demos and videos. Gold lets you play online and occasionally gets demos and videos earlier than Silver. My advice: start with a free Silver account, and if you like it, upgrade to Gold.
2) All demos and trailers are free. The only stuff you pay for are Xbox Live Arcade games (if you decide to buy the full versions) add-ons for games (ie: new missions, additional cars, etc.) and, with Microsoft's new on-demand service, you can download movies and TV shows for a small fee.
3) Depends on a number of factors, primarily the speed of your internet provider (DSL is fast, cable modems are faster). Also, newer demos and videos may take longer to download initially since they'll be popular and thus get more hits out of the gate. If downloading a particular item is going slowly, I generally wait a day or two before trying again.
Hope that helps. BTW, Played with a Wii and PS3 again today. Excite Truck for Wii controls well but is lacking visually; Motorstorm for PS3 controls horribly and looks pretty poor (some objects in the game, like shrubs, are actually 2D sprites and aren't even rendered in 3D). I still like my 360 way more than either one.
How do you get an XBox 360?
Go to store. Bring money. Purchase.
How do you get a PS3? You Dont!
A friend who works at EB Games told me they aren't expecting any more units until March 2007. While I was there today, some guy waltzed in, walked up to the counter and asked to buy 2 PS3's (yes, he was serious). The look on his face when he was told there may not be any more available until March was priceless.

Thanks for the answers Tony...I can't wait until christmas. I really want that 360...

I've heard a rumor that there is a demo coming out for Halo 3... and that you may have to pay for it...
Other than that demos are free.
0064, Silver really isn't a good taste of the complete Xbox Live. However, you do already know what it is like playing online as you have on PC. However, it is more organized on the 360, with a friends list and such.
I'm thinking Tony will know this, but anoyone can respond if they know. Any plans for a NASCAR game for 360.
To the best of my knowledge, Electronic Arts (which owns the license) has not made a NASCAR announcement for any of the next gen consoles yet.
Seeing as the NASCAR series is one of their big sellers, I'm sure they'll announce something eventually (probably for a holiday 2007 release). But in the meantime the company has been having some problems with a slew of poorly received games (Superman Returns being the most recent) that certain analysts believe has tarnished the company's reputation:
Found this article on the 360, while looking for something else. The writer loves the 360 and believes Microsoft is missing a chance to broaden the appeal of the 360 by not promoting its home entertainment virtues.

Nice article Barry, thanks for sharing. I remember being bowled over by the console's multimedia capabilities when I first hooked up my 360 as well. It is a versatile piece of hardware that can really do a lot of stuff.
But touting its multimedia capabilities is a tricky thing. Most people who buy the 360 (and this goes for the PS3 and Wii as well) could care less about all the ancillary stuff, they want to play games. In its early days the 360 was touted as being the hub of your entertainment system; but as the months wore on, the focus of the advertising definitely slanted away from the hub concept towards gaming. It's a fine line to walk but historically, consumers have preferred game consoles that can do multimedia to multimedia consoles that can play games. Its just semantics but perception is everything.
Still, Microsoft hasn't abandoned the 360's multimedia pedigree. In addition to being able to stream pictures, music and videos from a PC or other device thru USB, you can now download movies and TV shows from Xbox Live (many in hi-definition) as well and you can even buy a HD-DVD add-on for the console. All MS needs to do is make a web-browser available and you basically have all the functionality of a PC since you can already connect a keyboard and mouse via the USB ports.
As if the Xbox 360 didn't have enough cool features to it, I checked out one of the remastered Star Trek episodes from Live's on demand service a few days ago. I downloaded Space Seed (the episode which was basically the prequel to Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan) and I was completely blown away. Any Star Trek fan who has Xbox Live owes it to himself to download this and experience the USS Enterprise (and Khan's ship, the Botany Bay) rendered in high-def CGI glory. The effects have been completely redone and display at 16x9 in true high-def; the live action has also been remastered and even though it's pillar-boxed (black bars on the sides) the colors are vibrant and the picture pops off the screen. It really felt as though I was watching that classic episode for the first time.
Well, it looks like I might be a PC gamer for another half year at least. I just cant save money for that 360. Im getting $300 or so dollars soon, but there are so many cool PC games coming out soon im not sure if I will be able to save for that 360. I have so many PC games on my list that I doubt I will ever have enough money for all of them....oh well, the PC is still dominating...and with domination comes great games...

That's too bad 0064, but I know where you're coming from. If the PC can fulfill all your gaming needs, getting another console could be more of a distraction than anything else. I'd almost talked myself into picking up a Nintendo Wii, but when I looked at it objectively I realized that I already have plenty of games for my 360 that I haven't even started (with more on the way) and barring a couple of games, the Wii library is uniformly mediocre.
Truthfully, one system should be plenty for most people, as long as it has the software you want. Still, I think you'll be missing out on some great 360 gaming. We'll keep a spot open for you in case you change your mind.
Well Tony, it will happen if some of the Game releases are pushed past the fourth of June. But yes, I hear about some of the games for the 360 and hear they are good, but I cant think of a single 360 game that I really want and cant get on the PC. I dont like Gears of War, CoD 3...oh wait, nevermind, but anyways, I cant think of alot of game that I want for 360. Plus, PC games have been coming out at the low price of $40 instead of the $60 I would have to pay for the 360 games. However, if Mercenaries 2 comes out for the 360, ill be getting one.
I haven't heard a peep about Mercenaries 2 on any system for quite a while. Last I heard, the developers were still trying to find a distributor for the game. They're probably waiting to see how well the PS3 really does before deciding whether to make it an exclusive or also bring out a 360 version.
BTW, for any 360 owners, there has been another backward compatibility update. 30 more games have been added to the list, although not much in the way of high profile games other than maybe Scarface and Splinter Cell: Double Agent (the Xbox version is vastly different from the 360 version).

Yeah, Mercs 2 is starting to die...but nonetheless, there are other great games out there to play that are better than Mercs 2 could be...like S.H.A.D.O.W. and BF2142.
