I haven't heard a peep about Mercenaries 2 on any system for quite a while. Last I heard, the developers were still trying to find a distributor for the game. They're probably waiting to see how well the PS3 really does before deciding whether to make it an exclusive or also bring out a 360 version.
BTW, for any 360 owners, there has been another backward compatibility update. 30 more games have been added to the list, although not much in the way of high profile games other than maybe Scarface and Splinter Cell: Double Agent (the Xbox version is vastly different from the 360 version).
Far Cry Instincts should like nice on the 360. Anywhoo, has anyone here played CoD for the 360???
The original Far Cry looked nice on the Xbox; since the 360 upscales the old Xbox games, it should look even better. My big problem with the game was that I lost interest in the later levels.
I played CoD2 on the 360; great game with beautiful visuals and awesome ambience. Some of the scripted events and battles within the bombed out towns were very intense and memorable. Haven't gotten CoD3 yet, but I've read that its every bit as good as its predecessor.
ULTIMATE SPIDERMAN! ULTIMATE SPIDERMAN! ULTIMATE SPIDERMAN! ULTIMATE SPIDERMAN! YESSSSS! Totally gonna replay it on the 360.
I'm curious to try Scarface now that it's BC; the game supported widescreen, got some pretty good reviews, and with the bump to hi-def it should look pretty nice. Destroy All humans was another good game with some absolutely hilarious dialog.
Just finished Splinter Cell: Double Agent; as I was still in a Tom Clancy mindset, I played the Rainbow Six: Vegas demo last night for a little bit. Its much more accessible and easier to get into than previous RS games in a number of ways. Controlling your squadmates is a lot easier: just point to a location or object, press "A" and the AI does the rest. The game has instituted a Gears of War style cover system, and as long as you can find cover and avoid getting shot, your health automatically regenerates. The visuals are also very, very nice. I'm liking what I see and I'll probably get the full version this weekend.
I also picked up Star Trek: Legacy. The graphics are spectacular with beautifully modelled starships, space stations, and other objects from all the iterations of Trek shows and movies. The space combat is only so-so, however; the ships move like slugs, there are a ton of functions mapped to the control pad that must all be memorized to have a chance of succeeding and there are no in-mission checkpoints so you have to play an entire mission (which can last up to an hour) in one sitting. I'm a hardcore Trek fan so I'll try to tough it out, but there are some pretty glaring issues here.
) ) Hey Night, I read they just released a new Mah Jongg game for the PS3; I hear it really pushes the Cell processor. {:)
Seriously 0064, I admit to being a little envious ( but only a little ). Make sure to share your impressions of the PS3 when you've had a chance to shake it down. And I'll take my burgers medium-well, thanks very much.

I will post my impressions of the MotorStorm demo and Resistance....
So, one medium-well burger coooming riiight up, Night, how would ya like yours???
So where's my hamburger? Hey 0064, I was at Toys 'R Us today and by dumb luck some Wii's and PS3's went on sale just as I was picking up a game. I had both consoles literally in my hands but reluctantly passed on the PS3 as I couldn't justify the $600 expenditure as I still don't think there's any game out there worth that kind of an investment. I did pick up a Wii though; I posted some initial impressions on the Wii thread.
And by the way, Rainbow Six: Vegas is pretty impressive. I've only played the demo and a little bit of the first level but the visual quality and ease of controlling your squadmates are both great. The only letdown so far is that you can't save anywhere; only at certain checkpoints. As such, if you get killed, there's a little bit of backtracking to wade thru.
Just to let all of you know (I don't know if anyone will care) I now have a gold membership for XBOX Live for the 360. I use to just have the silver membership. I can now play multiplayer online. If anyone wants to look me up, my name for Live is: xman25a Note the 'a' at the end. If anyone wants to do any multiplayer action, let me know. Maybe we can set something up.

Well done xman; I'm hardly ever online (between work and family obligations I'm lucky if I can sneak in a few hours a week) but I'll drop you a friend invite tomorrow.

They should be starting to get easier to find as word on the street is that the initial frenzy for PS3 has died down. I was a Target this morning and there was one in the case just waiting to be bought.
As for the Wii, it is clearly underpowered compared to the 360 and PS3, but the Wiimote definitely makes playing certain games much more fun. Games like tennis and golf definitely feel better with the Wiimote and I can see myself preferring the Wii for those kinds of games. But let's be clear about one thing: the graphics are for the most part butt ugly, especially as the included A/V cables only support 480i, the lowest TV resolution available. Looks like I'm going to have to hunt down a set of component cables for this thing after all.
*Sigh* No PS3 this christmas...parents decided not to pitch in the other half...oh well, til june and a 360?!?!??!??! :v

So I'm just coming back from throwing my students the annual Secret Santa party and I finally got to play CONDEMNED for the 360 (one of my students owns one).
He also brought GEARS OF WAR and even on a regular television, both games looked fantastic. I found gameplay for CON to be somewhat claustrophobic(?) and a little repetitive though it was tense, it missed that Silent Hill/Doom 3 creep factor by a hair. I just didn't feel that familiar sense of dread I'm used to.
Bear in mind, I only flirted with it for maybe 30 minutes so it may not be fair to give it a full ruling until I've acquired my own copy. It's promising.

Jeez, RA, don't you own a 360 yet?

No. I have others matters that require my attention more; family, car payments, pushing my creations for lucrative gain, etc...y'know...responsibility.
I never get too overwhelmed by these sort of things; if it comes, it comes.
I will get one when the time is right. We all know they'll be in style for what- the next 5-6 years? But before then of course.
Although I did overhear my wife mentioning one on the phone to a co-worker of her's who's son works for GameStop and gets stuff like this on discount. Maybe Christmas or my birthday next month...maybe it was just talk.
But I wasn't eavesdropping or anything...

Trust me Rogue, the creep factor in Condemned definitely ramps up as you progress deeper into the game. As a veteran of Doom, I can tell you there were some moments in condemned that were really scary (an encounter in an abandoned high school swimming pool comes to mind).
As to when you're going to get a 360, you and 0064 have waffled so many times I'm starting to think you're a couple of indecisive girls. I think we should start a pool on which of you two will get one first. How's that for a Festivus moment?

Would Darth Maul's double bladed lightsaber work as well? You get the added benefit that it glows bright red.
It'll have to do. A Festivus for the rest of us!!!! )
I really think that my wife is buying me the 360 and planning me a surprise b-day party.
Of course if I'm wrong, I'll eat crow and just buy the thing outright. I came close to online last month believe it or not; I wasn't fast enough. )
