I dont feel bad...are you getting a 360 soon Rogue???
I'm pretty sure that it will be sooner than later, 0064. Tony had given me a smooth tip on buying one and I was just beaten to the punch badly.
I caught my wife looking at 360 games the other night while we were wrapping up all of our shopping. Never done that before so perhaps it's a sign of things to come...

Well Rogue, did you get one. I must say that I am verrry close. I got about $350 for christmas, which puts me about $50 away and I think my parents will pitch in for a copy of Gears of War, but I will soon have one!!!
The boys opened their Xbox 360 today and loved it. Got it connected, sort of (having a problen getting connected to the internet) but the games look great and the boys are enjoying Gears of War. SO far I am impressed, if I could only get connected to the internet.
My daughter got a Zune for a Christmas, another Microsoft product and she loves it. My son who has an Ipod thought the Zune was cooler. I noticed the Zune works with the 360 somehow, not sure what the interface is, but I must say I think Microsoft has a couple cool products.

Gears of War eh??? That will most likely be the game that i get first. But if you could tell more about your opinions of the game after you've played it more, that would be very nice.

Congrats Barry. I sent you a couple of PMs on your internet issues; let us know how you make out. As for the Zune, it can interface with the 360 thru one of the USB ports. You can stream music from the Zune while playing games (the music from the Zune overrides the default tracks from the game) and I think you can also stream videos and pictures from the Zune to the 360, again thru a USB connection. You can also do a lot of the same things with an Ipod or similar devices.

(sorry I chopped that sentence up so bad)
The only real criticism of Gears of War is that the single player campaign isn't that long on the default difficulty setting (probably about 10-12 hours). Also, the underlying story is very spotty and incomplete (obviously so they can flesh it out in the inevitable sequel).
I've started playing Rainbow Six: Vegas for the 360. Great, great game with very intense firefights and amazing graphics. In the second level, you fly over Vegas in a helicopter, set down right in the middle of the city, exit the helicopter and begin the mission ... all seamlessly and continuously without any breaks in the action (very similar to the GRAW demo). The game is also quite hard. You really have to use cover, be aware of your surroundings and deploy your squadmates wisely to stay alive. Pretty intense stuff.
My youngest son made it through all levels of Gears of War in three days. He loved the game, his exact quote, "this game is the bomb".
BTW, among the games they got Christmas, was Lara Croft Tomb Raider game for the 360. They haven't played it yet, so I have no review at this time. I myself played a little Project Gotham Racing. Not use to the 360 controls so I started out a little slow, but eventually caught on.

Glad to hear he enjoyed Gears of War; if he liked that game, you may want to look into Rainbow Six: Vegas at some point down the road. The games play very similarly (right down to the cover mechanics and controlling squadmates), although RS:V has a more urban setting and you fight terrorists instead of aliens.
I thought Tomb Raider was a great game; great action, clever puzzles, and absolutely beautiful locales to explore. I think they'll enjoy it quite a bit.
As for Project Gotham, half the fun of that game is finding a car that suits your driving style. I found the Ultima GTR to be a nice first car, it handled well and it topped out at around 200mph.
Have been plaing a little bit of Project Gotham 3, have about 30 minutes drive time. I think Tony is right about finding a car to fit your driving style. I was using a Ferrari and the acceleration was too much, I would handle a tight corner fine, but spin the tires and the car, accelerating out of the corner. I think a slower car may have suited me better. Having fun though.
Have yet to play a shooter game. Darn kids are hogging the thing )
Working on getting a wireless online connection going. More money
Night, you need to get Gears of War, the kids love it and I thought the graphics were outstanding.
I didn't get any 360 games for the holidays. Anybody want to give me the gift of Gears of War?
Are you pimping yourself to AJB members? I thought you were better than that. Wait till I tell Rogue...
BTW, I was at Circuit City today checking out some 1080p TV's and they had an Xbox 360 playing some Basketball game connected to a Samsung 50" DLP. The high res picture was so sharp and vibrant that for about 20 seconds, I thought I was watching an actual broadcast. Man, I really want to trade up now.

Don't say that Tony. Or I'll want to convince my dad to trade up to a new Sony 1080p projector as well.
Looks like the Xbox 360 was the top selling videogame console for the holidays; the Nintendo Wii was a very close second. The PS3 was a distant third, and even before Christmas day PS3 consoles were easily found at many stores (I saw two 60gb models at Target yesterday). Now that all the hardcore Sony fans and would be eBay vultures got their hands on one, I think we'll start to see just how popular the PS3 really is.

Jeez. If you can actually find PS3s I'm going to be majorly dissappointed in Msoft. I waited until the end of MARCH for my 360. But now people can find PS3s in January? Grrrrr...

Truthfully Night, I think it has more to do with the high price and lack of software than Sony's ability to crank 'em out. Despite Sony's claims, I just don't think demand is as high as they'd like people to believe.
BTW, just as an aside, I was at Best Buy yesterday looking for some new years day deals and there wasn't a 360 (either core or premium) to be found. Target had a couple but other than that they were pretty scarce. Feel better now?

Yeah, that is why Rogue didn't get one. His wife couldn't find any. Isn't that amazing?

Ahh, so that's why he's been so quiet on the videogame front. Did he ever get his son a Wii?
No, Tony...He told me that Nintendo is sort of kiddy-like (which I felt was all of a sudden odd) but I now know the real reason why... :v
He was planning to lay low and then ask for my Xbox once he and my wife were out shopping for a 360 for me. When my wife wasn't able to find one available for sale, he was crap outta luck. He could've just asked for a regular Xbox but he wasn't thinking it through properly.
I'm not giving up my Xbox until all of my titles are BC for 360 and I know that's not going to happen.
My wife did buy me Condemned because my kid told her just how much I wanted it.
For now, it's still in plastic in my shelf, but my birthday's around the corner. It's like having a condom without the proper utensils to use it. ) Can I say that? ;%

Yeah, the Wii can very easily degenerate into another Nintendo kiddy console. All it would take is a little Mario (ugh!) and Pokemon (blech!)

Trust me, you'll enjoy Condemned. As for your little analogy, as Arthur C. Clarke once said, having computer manuals without the hardware is almost as frustrating as having sex manuals without the software.

My son has told my wife that he wants a PS3 for his birthday; I will admit that I've allowed my son to play on the Xbox (ESPN football, golf, boxing & Bond) and it's hard for him to resort back fully to enjoying anything Nintendo.
We all know the limits in games that it has and the audience Gamecubes and Wiis target mainly. And I'm the first to admit that once my son accidently saw Halle Berry's "chest" in Swordfish some years back, he doesn't carry himself like he's nine. ;%
If you've played a Wii, please give me something to mount an arguement with besides the remote joysticks. )
But back on subject, in Condemned, is this agent supposed to be psychic? He has flashbacks or visions of some kind.

Well, I'd steer him clear away from a PS3. There is hardly any software for it, what's there is largely mediocre and can be found on other systems, and Blu Ray movies cost about twice as much as their DVD counterparts. Bad purchase all around if you ask me. That's why I don't have/want one.
Wii's main advantage is that it is FUN, and this is coming from a staunch Xbox 360 fan and all around anti-Nintendoite. The console comes with a pack-in game - Wii Sports. The golf game in particular is loads of fun because you actually mimic the golf swing and the Wiimote's accelerometers can actually track the motion of the swing (if you break left or right for example) as well as strength. So it really feels like you're playing golf, not pushing buttons on a control pad. Baseball, boxing, tennis and bowling are all similarly fun and I look forward to Nintendo or 3rd parties releasing full versions of these types of games. Now admittedly, the bulk of Nintendo's games will be diabetically cute and the graphics will never approach the quality of the 360 or PS3; but over the course of the system's life I'm sure there will be plenty of games that will really take advantage of this control scheme. There's even a rumor that Lucasarts is developing a Star Wars lightsaber game that uses the Wiimote.
If you go online with the Wii you can download a lot of classic 8 bit and 16 bit games from the old NES, SNES, Genesis and Turbografx systems. They sell for between $2 and $8 each so such fun can be had there as well. It's also BC with the Gamecube so all those games will work as well.
The Wii is also a huge hit saleswise and was the "it" present of the holidays. Its definitely crossed age barriers and everybody who's actually tried it quickly comes to enjoy it. As such I'm extremely hopeful that we'll get plenty of non-furry software for it over its life. At this point it really is much more hip to own a Wii than a PS3.
However, this is a Nintendo product so there's no completely escaping the cutes. The Mii's you must create are whimsical (though with a little work they can look eerily like you), the pointer on the dashboard looks like Mario's gloved hand, the background music is your typical sugary MIDI fare. If you're going to have fun with the Wii, you need to come to terms with this stuff and either get past it or ignore it.
Thats the best I can do; hope it helps.
