Congrats on the PS3 0064, I hope you enjoy it as much as the rest of us are enjoying our 360's.
But I can tell the radiation from the machine is already melting your brain. The 360 had a ton of great games at launch: Quake IV, Project Gotham 3, Kameo, Condemned and more. As to online, it was never an important component for me but I have to go with Nightshooter; MS's online strategy is really well implemented and the interface is consistent from game to game. It's easy to find friends online and send voice and text messages while playing. And the layout of their online offerings is very easy to navigate. Sony has a lot of work to do before it comes close to MS's level of integration.
As for PS3 games, Resistance is very good, too bad just about everything else has been available on the 360 for months. Its also disturbing that Sony keeps delaying and pushing back the release dates for its games. Oblivion has been pushed back again, Rainbow Six: Vegas and GRAW 2 have no firm date on Ubisoft's schedule, Warhawk has a fuzzy "Summer 2007" date; Killzone 2 has an even fuzzier "Late 2007" date, Mercenaries 2 has fallen off the radar, etc., etc., etc.
But don't worry, with any luck Sony will release another good game before the end of the year, and then you'll have two whole games to play with.
Nothing like a good console wars post to get the juices going in the morning.
I dont actually have, a Ps3....I just wanted some witty comments, and I got them for the most part.
As for the launch games...Quake IV was rushed and the PC version is considered far better, and it was very glitchy. Kameo was a meh-eh kind of game, and Condemed was pretty good...but it was a nothing sytem until GRAW, and that jump started it.
As for the PS3, RS 6 Vegas and Oblivion are set preey much as of now, though GRAW2 is a bit iffy as of now. But this is just some early bugs of a difficult to code for console. The 360 is alot like the PC so it wasnt difficult. And the future games....Warhawk is getting pushed later, but im pretty sure we'll see it June of 2007 (when im actually getting a console), Killzone 2 barely interests me. As for Mercs 2, this is interesting, there has been a flood of stuff in the new year, most notably the bias' EGN dedicating a whole page to it in issue 212. Im not worried, many expect to see it released early summer. As for the games that do interest me, many of them aren't PS3 exclusives, and share a 360 port as well, but I dont mind. Haze and Half-Life 2 Orange Box come to mind immediately, but there are more.
Oh yes, the online. Ok, lemme do some math here. You pay $50 a year for internet, which means, that after 4 years the PS3 is a better deal. There are text, audio and visual (soon) ways to chat, and for the most part it is good. Id say the only thing that the 360 has on the PS3 is the friends list, but I dont mind.
Id say the biggest thing about the 360 I dont like is thae fact it doesnt feel fresh and you have to pay for your internet. But, the big thing about the 360 is this little game called bioshock....

Wait, so paying the same amount of money over four years for something worse is a better deal? What kind of math is that?

Aw man, I'm bummed. I was really excited for you and now you go and pull the rug out. So much for all the great console war posts I was prepping.
Let's just agree to disagree on the 360 games and Xbox Live but just remember this: with 360 you have all this great software now; with PS3, you might get it later, assuming it all pans out and works as well as Sony hopes. Even Resistance is, by most people's accounts, visually inferior to Gears of War.
But no matter, whatever system you do finally decide to get, I hope you enjoy it. And if Ken and Kaz do manage to brainwash me into getting a PS3 (it's possible, I once dropped $700 for a 3DO console and I still expect a price drop or special PS3 promotion in a couple of months) I'll be sure to send you some pictures.
Now now, there is still hope, here's why, Im flipping a coin...yes, thats right, I cant decide, so im flipping a coin...in 30 seconds...they are both good consoles, but I must choose, I hate being a flip-flop.

Do you want me to use my genuine Batman Forever Two Face Coin Prop? Clean side gets a 360, scarred side get a PS3.

Okay...anyone here already play DEAD RISING? I'm thinking about making it my first 360 purchase...
I got double teamed by too druggies hitting me with pipes or planks of some kind on Condemned last night. How the second guy sneaked up on me I have no idea. ?:)

Barry! You own Halo 2, right? Join our game. Tony, me, RA, and you.
Are y'all gonna team up against me? Hehe.
Thanks for the invite Night, I appreciate it. Although I have Halo 2, I had never played the game, so before I played against some pro-shooters I thought I should play the game myself a little. So last night I fired up the 360 and played the game for about two hours. I have to say, Halo 2 is one of the best shooters games I ever played. Loved the atmosphere of the game and the graphics were very inventive. I am not the best shooter around, so it took awhile to get used to the 360 controls and other features. Managed to get through the first level where Master Chief finds the bomb. My son said I need to improve my aiming and sometimes I wasn't sure where to go (a female voice came on and told me that time was running out). Loved the double wanding. All in all I had fun. Once I get the hang of the game a little bit more I will be happy to join your battle. I think I will need to download some maps or something, right.

You're probably already better than RA, so don't worry about it.
) I just love ribbing him about it.

I played the Dead Rising demo (if you pick up a hard drive you can download it for free and try it out) but I found it to be very repetitive. It also has some aspects to it that I hate: enemies constantly respawn when you exit and re-enter a room; and there is a time limit for completing the game. I find those kinds of artificial challenges cheap and they really spoil the experience for me.
As to Condemned, as you progress you get attacked by more and more people (there's a level in the high school where ... well, never mind) so you have to be aware of your surroundings. I find it helps to wade in, take a shot, and back off. That way you can see around you better.
I think I will need to download some maps or something, right.
The Halo 2 maps are all free; there's a menu choice within the game for downloading content. Go there and you'll have access to everything available. You'd better get your skill level up; Nightshooter plays for keeps in these games and Halo 3 is coming out in November.
And Barry, if you liked Halo 2 but maybe thought it was a little too fast paced; may I suggest picking up a copy of Doom 3. It was released for the original Xbox but is backwardly compatible with the 360 (which bumps up the resolution and makes it look even nicer); the game can be found for $20 or less these days. The pace is a bit slower than Halo and the environments more claustrophobic (thus you always know where to go) and atmospheric.
Thanks for the tip Tony, I might pick up a copy of Doom 3 this weekend. Enjoyed Halo, however, I do need to upgrade my skills. Should be able to find some time this weekend to play some more.

Doom 3 is one of my (and RogueAgent's) favorite games; really well done. But be warned, the game plays very much like a survival sci-fi/horror movie so there are some graphic images of violence and quite a bit of gore.
If you do get it, make sure you get "Doom 3" which is backwardly compatible. There was a followup game called "Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil", which is not yet BC and as such won't work on your 360.

Thanks, Tony. I was afraid that the word "repetitive" might come into play for this title but I really wasn't sure. I've heard someone else use the same definition for it.
Yes, Barry, I suggest as well for you to pick up DOOM 3. But as Tony as already warned you, it is quite graphic on the surface and if you play it long enough, you'll get more than your fair share of paranoia.
It's a cool game to play on LIVE; it sort of evens the odds for those not too skilled in multiplayer mode. The darkness can work to your advantage.
I should know since I fair alot better on this title than Halo 2.

Just came across this article that says a cheaper Xbox is coming. Also some other interesting points. 0064, maybe you can pick one up when price drops (if it does).
Thanks Barry, but oof, terribly bias article...
PS3 starting at $600...er no. As for Doom 3...lemme get a copy and you're on Rogue....Im really good at quake IV, which is on the same engine. as for Dead Rising....my friend loves that game, absolutely loves it. It is a riot and a ton of fun. Definately check it out Rogue.

Yes! Splinter Cell DA for the 360 FINally arrived! I can't wait to play it.
It's awesome. I'm not very good at it, but it looks and plays great.
SC:DA was a lot of fun; lots of gadgets and really neat graphics. The arctic / tanker level was probably my favorite. I've heard that the story and action on the Xbox version are quite different from the 360 edition. Just as an FYI Night, make sure that your NSA trust ratings stays pretty high or you won't see the real ending to the game.
I picked up Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter today; another great Ubisoft / Tom Clancy game. I already got thru the first three or four levels as it's much easier than the demo (which was so hard it scared me off for a while).
Comments
Yeah, that was slick. But I'm not sure about the cel-shaded look to everything. I'm going to have to DL it again and try it some more.
I've also been trying out the single player GRAW demo; man is that hard. Does the actual game have an easier mode?

If you still want to have a console wars, log on to the AJB chat, and id love to duke it out.
Is there any way to log on to AJB chat without the toolbar? I like to keep my desktop very minimalist.
And since you made PS3 heads in you coin flip, I would suggest that means you really want that console more, subconciously at least.
So ... who won?
