When I played the King Kong demo a long while back, the FPS sequence seemed quite tense. Having a T Rex right behind you was a little bit scary!

    Good old ebay.
I noticed that King Kong is down to $20 in the states; might be worth a look at that price.

Received this few days ago. It's a pretty weirdly made game. It becomes very repetitive. The times when your kong the camera angles are ridiculous and it pretty much plays him for you. This is definitely a game people only buy for the achievements (I can't even be bothered to complete it, even though it's pretty easy. Only worth it as a rental or very cheap imo. All ebay purchases are rentals really anyway.

Thanks for the heads up. I haven't even been able to find this in my area but based on your writeup, I think I'll be passing on it. Maybe I'll take Star Trek: Legacy out of mothballs and give it another go ...

I'm well into Tiger Woods atm. Never thought i'd like it. My dad bought it for him to play, but i'm really enjoying it. I gave up on the end of dead rising after losing couple of hours worth of zombie killing to a power cut, It became a bit tedious trying to level up to a suitable level for killing the soldiers. Think i'll pick that up at a later date.

Just started Rainbow Six Vegas as I got it in the mail today. I LOVE it. It started off okay, but now that I'm in a casino and out of Mexico, it is so intense! The firefights are amazing! Nonstop action. The cover system works incredibly well. Can't wait to play more, but my tenants were bitching about my surround sound so I had to stop. X-( :))

Played some more this morning- some INCREDIBLY INTENSE FIREFIGHTS. AWESOME! Plus I've underestimated the SMGs, which are quite useful. I ran out of ammo with my G3 and switched to a P90 which was much better than I expected, although that could have to do with the long barrel. However, once I ran out of ammo with that, I picked up a Mac 11, which DOESN'T SUCK. It surprised me.

My brother was taken aback by all the profanity the tangos spew out. The firefights were very intense and the weapons are great, but for me the sniper rifles are where it's at. Nothing like popping a guy in the head thru a car's windshield at 50 yards.

Sad news to report. I was just playing a little Burnout Revenge and my console suddenly froze. Upon rebooting it, I got the dreaded 3 red rings of death. Of course, my console went off warranty 6 weeks ago. I'm not terribly upset since I've used it almost every day for over a year now so I've really given it a workout.

Microsoft has offered to repair it for $105 plus the cost of shipping it to them. Or I can just buy myself a new unit. Looks like I may be offline for a bit until I decide what I want to do although I'm leaning towards just getting a new console and being done with it.

Sorry to hear about your Xbox Tony, maybe I should have taken that extended warranty.

Playing Halo 1, and loving it.

Came across this article that shows the 360 is still selling well.

I really don't feel too badly about it; I used it extensively since day 1 for everything from games to DVD and video playback and I feel like I got my money's worth. I'll probably pick up a new Core system tomorrow. Microsoft was offering a pretty fair deal on repairing mine but I really don't feel like packing it up, mailing it out and waiting for it to be evaluated and repaired or replaced. Besides, I'm sure the newer models will be more stable. I already have the hard drive and all the other necessary accessories so a Core will be a pretty cost effective way of getting me back online ASAP.

The original Halo was a great game with a very good storyline; glad to hear you're enjoying it. It's also nice to hear sales are still healthy. I'll hopefully be adding to that number very soon. ;)

Why don't they have particurlarly long lifetimes. Say compared to a PC. Afterall they basically are a PC. One thing I have noticed is it's so loud. Even louder than my PC and that has some massive fans in it. They could have stuck some low speed fans in to keep the noise down. Have to have me sound really high to drown it out. It's a shame PC's don't have a more console capability and some high end games for high end PC's. The PC will always have the potential to be better than any console.

Well, my 360 is dated November 25, 2005; so it's from the very first batch, before they really had a handle on production. That's the price you pay for being an early adopter. The reason for the loud fans is that the processors in the 360 put out a lot of heat. In fact, there are quite a few external fans and other gadgets on the market for people who want to keep their consoles as cool as possible.

I stopped gaming on PC's years ago because I was tired of the constant upgrading and compatibility issues. I don't know how things are today but when I had a PC rig for gaming it seemed I was always downloading patches to the games, getting the latest versions of Direct-X and drivers for my video and audio hardware, and generally juggling my setup to keep it optimized for the current game. I literally spent more time tweaking my system and troubleshooting software issues than I did playing and I just got fed up with it.

Consoles will probably never be as powerful as PC's since the latter's hardware is superceded about every 6 months. But you can't beat a console for plug-n-play simplicity. Even the process of getting updates is largely automatic and transparent these days.
  • NightshooterNightshooter In bed with SolitairePosts: 2,917MI6 Agent
Sorry to hear about that, Tony. It is too bad the early Xbox 360s had that problem. Barry, you shouldn't need the extended warranty if you bought yours after January of 2006.
  • s96024s96024 Posts: 1,519MI6 Agent
I find half the fun of a PC is you can upgrade it and make slight performance increases. Until recently I was a hardcore Counter Strike player, until I realised it was taking over my life. The only problem with PC's is the fact that no game designers utilise the top end technology in order to make the game playable on as many peoples PC's as possible. So therefore even though there are better performing PC's all the time, the majority of people don't have them. So even though each console has quite a gap between each other, the games always tend to better utilise the limits of the software on the consoles. I still havn't played a better game than HL/CS though.
  • TonyDPTonyDP Inside the MonolithPosts: 4,307MI6 Agent
I'm sure things are better with today's PC's; but back in the late 1990's trying to get games to work with Windows98 and downloading updates over a 56k line was no fun at all.

That kind of tuning is what burned me out to PC gaming. Of course, it probably didn't help that I used to be a software developer and database administrator - I'd spend all day troubleshooting and optimizing my servers to run our software, then I'd go home and have to tune my PC to get the best framerate in Quake II. No wonder I burned out. :s

This is for 0064: Pandemic officially announces builds of Mercenaries 2 for 360, as well as PC and PS2. There, now you have no excuse to go right out and buy yourself an Xbox 360. :p

I picked up my replacement Xbox 360 today and so far so good. EBGames gave me $140 in credit for my old console even though it was bricked - that seemed like a pretty good deal to me. I picked up a core since I already have all the necessary accessories.

The new 360 was assembled in December of 2006 and it appears to be much much quieter than my original model; the DVD drive in particular is barely noticeable even when I have the sound turned all the way down. The system was also very smart in picking up my profile and other settings off my hard drive once I reattached it; it took me all of 10 minutes to get back online and 5 of those were spent trying to remember how to get the wireless controller and console to talk to one another.

While I was moderately disappointed with the relatively short lifespan of my first console (that's the risk of being an early adopter) I give Microsoft props for making the process of transitioning your profile so quick and easy.

Okay, played some of my three new games. RS Vegas, Gears of War, and Crackdown.

RS Vegas is awesome, and the multiplayer is incredibly fun, the cover mechanic really works well. I'm loving it.

Crackdown is also really really fun, especially playing co-op with a friend. You really are like a superhero, and can do the most incredible things. If only the Superman game turned out this well.

Gears of War is beautiful, but the cover system isn't nearly as nice as it is in RS Vegas. I only played for a very short amount of time, but the game seems very linear as well. However, I'll play much much, and hopefully on co-op and really get a sense of how to play the game. So far, though, it is my least favorite of the three.

Is there split-screen co-op in crackdown???
  • NightshooterNightshooter In bed with SolitairePosts: 2,917MI6 Agent
Not that I know of. I prefer it online, though.
  • TonyDPTonyDP Inside the MonolithPosts: 4,307MI6 Agent
I noticed that Superman Returns for the 360 has been discounted to $40; I couldn't resist the markdown so I picked it up. I've played thru the first two levels and am actually liking it quite a bit. The first level is your obligatory tutorial where Jor El shows you how to control your superpowers as you try to destroy some asteroids that are falling towards Metropolis. The second level was a lot of fun; Superman is kidnapped and sent to Warworld where he must participate in Mongul's gladiatorial games before taking on Mongul himself. The combat is fun, especially picking up huge chunks of buildings and hurling them at your foes; flying around Metropolis is also very cool. Hopefully the game won't get too repetitive as I get further into it but so far, I'm having fun with it.

After the gladitorial games, that's where it does become very repetitive i'm afraid :s. It's such a short game as well. I rented it and had completed in 2 days.

I was afraid of that. Oh well, I'm a DC comics fan so it was a foregone conclusion that I'd have to try this at some point. Heck, I still have the Batman Begins game for the original Xbox.

DC fan eh??? Too bad DC univers online is PS3 exclusive while the 360 gets the Marvel exclusive.
  • NightshooterNightshooter In bed with SolitairePosts: 2,917MI6 Agent
Yeah, that ****ed me off originally, as I was also a DC fan, but I think I'm slowly becoming a Marvel guy. Don't get me wrong, Bats will always be the best, but I think as far as stable of characters goes, Marvel gets the nod. So I'm now sort of glad we get the Marvel exclusive, although I wish we had both.

I really never cared for those massively multiplayer online games; too chaotic and I always have a hard time figuring out what I should be doing. But it doesn't matter; if the PS3 gets some good games then I'll get myself one. If not, I'll pass. So far I'm not liking what I see: Sony's F1 game (which I was curious about) has been getting some relatively disappointing reviews, and Warhawk (which I was really curious about) continues to be in development hell and now looks to be a downloadable game only. PS3 just doesn't seem to be a very good console right now; so even if they have the DC license I've seen very little from Sony to show that they can deliver a quality product.

Tony, WHY HAVEN'T WE PLAYED MUA YET? LOL

Umm, because my 360 was dead and I didn't get a new one until the weekend? :p I did see you online Saturday but noticed you were immersed in Rainbow Six: Vegas and I didn't want to bug you.

The 360 has gotten a little bit of a rest lately; I've been playing Sonic for the Wii for the last few days. I picked up a set of component cables and it improved the picture quality of the console about 100% so I wanted to check out some games again.

I should be home tonight; I'll try to fire up my 360 and I'll look for you online around 6:00pm.
  • NightshooterNightshooter In bed with SolitairePosts: 2,917MI6 Agent
Gears of War was fun, but I wonder why our game of MUA was so glitchy and quit all the time. Puts a damper on the fun. Still hoping to try and play with RA though, all three of us.
