Anyone else think the new "dog factor" in Fable 2 sounds lame? I mean, I love dogs, but it sounds kind of stupid in the game.
Sounds kind of interesting to me. The dog seems to be an integral part of the game, helping you in combat and leading you thru unexplored areas. I also like the fact that the dog can't be killed in combat; it would have been a major distraction if you had to constantly look out for it, but it looks like it will look out for you. Pretty clever, if they can pull it off.
The original Fable was one of my all time favorite games for the Xbox - if you haven't played it, you should check it out (get The Lost Chapters; it adds another adventure and is BC with the 360) - and you can always count on Peter Molyneaux to give you some innovative gameplay. I'm looking forward to it, but Molyneaux takes forever to finish his games so I wouldn't expect this one for a good long while.
In other news I heard that the Shivering Isles expansion to Oblivion will cost a whopping 2400 points ($30 dollars) to download. Still, I absolutely loved that game and this expansion is supposed to add 30 hours of gameplay as well as provide some visual upgrades to the game. I'll probably end up springing for it.
I picked up GRAW2 for the 360 today (traded in GRAW1 and Superman Returns). I've gotten thru the training missions and halfway thru the first level. So far the game seems a bit easier than the original as the AI of your squadmates appears improved. The visuals and sound are top notch as well. The game picks up almost to the moment where the first one ended and the style and variety of missions appears to closely follow the original. I'm liking it so far although it feels more like an expansion pack than a full fledged game and I don't think it quite warrants the $60 pricetag.

I really don't do a lot of multiplayer 0064; if Nightshooter, RogueAgent or any of our other X-Men get it I'm sure I'll try it with them but I've never been one to hop online and get into a game with total strangers. Some guys I chat with on another board all love the multiplayer, especially the co-op modes. They're a pretty hardcore bunch so that tells me that it is pretty strong. If I try it out with them I'll be sure to let you know how it plays.

Monday's my birthday, so I should be getting it around then. I will DEFINITELY check out the multiplayer- it was my favorite part of the first one. I'll let you know when I get it.
The Nintendo Wii was the top selling console in February, however the 360 is still outselling the PS3 almost 2 to 1, helped out by Tony's purchase. )
I still think the Wii is selling well because of its low price point and Nintendo always had more games for younger kids. For the 360 to be outselling PS3 by this wide a margin at this point has got to be bad news to Sony.

Still playing Halo 1, almost done.
The Wii is marketed and percieved as a "toy"; it's relatively inexpensive, and the Nintendo brand is well known to parents and grandparents. The low pricepoint means that you can pick one up on an impulse and the games are also relatively less expensive. Overall it's a solid strategy - and it is a fun little system - but it really shouldn't be compared to the 360 or PS3 as it's aims are much more modest.
As for the PS3, it continues to flounder and try to find its identity. The delays in software are absolutely killing it. GRAW2 (which is already available for the 360) won't be released on PS3 until June; Rainbow Six: Vegas (which has been available on the 360 for months) has been pushed back again and again. And Oblivion (which has been available on the 360 for over a year) has been pushed back again for the PS3 - and there is no solid info on how or if the pleothora of add-on quests already out for the 360 will make it to PS3. Sony also has a lot of egg on their face these days by having to fess up that their own first party developers could not make a good game out of Warhawk, one of their premier titles at E3, and have instead dumb it down into a multiplayer only game. There is also word that Killzone, another highly touted game, doesn't look all that appealing either, certainly nowhere near the tech demos that Sony tried to pass of as actual gameplay. Typical Sony - they release a new console and then have practically no games for it for months on end.
On the Xbox front, I started playing Black again. Black is a single player first person shooter with a "Black Ops" angle to it; the emphasis is on action and really powerful weapons. Even though it was made for the original Xbox, it is backwardly compatible with the 360. When played on the 360, the graphics and sound effects are spectacular - it actually looks better than many first generation 360 games. Some of the weapons are really over the top; for example you can get an RPG that is absolutely devastating (the sonic concussions really give the subwoofer a workout and the smoke effects and destructible environments look amazing). Black was developed by Criterion (who make the very popular Burnout games) and can be found for $20 or less. I'd encourage anyone interested in a good old fashioned action oriented first person shooter to check it out.

Let me say that Alien Hominid HD for XBL Arcade is awesome. Loads of fun, though the game is really difficult.

Haven't tried that one yet; the art style wasn't really to my liking. I'll have to DL it and have a look.
I tried Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as I had the game for the Super Nes waaaaaaay back in the day. I was a little disappointed with it as it looks terribly dated by today's standards.
I also tried the Virtua Tennis demo; another disappointment as the gameplay is way too arcadey and unrealistic - every return ends in a diving shot and the computer AI is cheap with a capital C. Really obnoxious music too. And the player models look hideous (Sharapova looks like she was hit with Smilex gas).

I'm sure EBGames / Gamestop will be more than happy to take your 360 - they gave me $140 for my and it was broken.
As for this new SKU, if it is legit I'm sure Microsoft will make a larger hard disk available as a separate item. The only other really compelling reason to upgrade would be the HDMI interface, and even that would only be a factor if you wanted to play games in 1080p or upscale your standard def DVD's thru your 360.
By the way, in other 360 news Capcom has officially announced that Devil May Cry 4 will be released on our favorite console. And Namco is following suit by announcing that Ace Combat 6 will be coming to the 360 as well, possibly as a console exclusive. Two more major blows against Sony as DMC and AC were two of their stronger 3rd party franchises. Awwwwwwww, poor Sony. )

DMC4 coming to 360? SERIOUSLY? Wow, another major franchise for 360.
I kinda want my 360 hooked up through HDMI, even though my projector doesn't support 1080p. The upscaling thing would be nice. As for the larger HD, yeah, it better not be $200 if they are selling it separately.

SERIOUSLY! Here's a link to the Gamerscoreblog page. BTW, Gamerscoreblog is a very good site to get info on Xbox 360 and other Microsoft product - it's an official MS site run by its developers and testers.

I might go for the new model, but only if I ever pick up a 1080p set - Samsung is supposed to be coming out with a very sweet model with three HDMI inputs that I have my eye on.
They'll probably drop the price of the 20GB drive (or discontinue it altogether) and bring out the 120GB drive for around $100; that's what they did with their memory cards when they released the 512MB model.
NightshooterIn bed with SolitairePosts: 2,917MI6 Agent
I could not convince my folks to pay for the new model- even if I did trade in the old one. Which irks me, because I want to upgrade it as fully as I can, and Msoft isn't giving me the ability to. Argh.
And why haven't I bought GRAW 2 yet? What is WRONG with me?

A friend of mine gave me a copy of Madden 07 for the 360 last weekend and I'll admit that despite the resolution of the graphics being bumped up noticably for the new system, it still sucks. 8-)
I've really tried to tough out not giving into Madden because I was mad that they cornered the gaming market on the NFL. After playing it the entire weekend, I think it's safe to say that I can go cold turkey on pigskin games...
I miss the ESPN 2K franchise by SEGA which IMO, had it all. Highlights, vivid detail ( I mean you could actually see the holes in the jerseys and the ribs in the socks), more real to life statistics & standings and easier to control.
The Madden franchise doesn't have to work very hard if there's no competition to make them strive...It's just criminal.

Thanks for the link Tony, lot of interesting information. I see Halo 3 will be coming out in three versions, one going for approximately $130.00. Does look like it has some cool extras.
Don't know what version I will be buying, but I will be buying.

I'm really not into sports games so this hasn't been an issue for me, but EA games in general just plain suck these days. Their creativity has really gone down the toilet and they just churn out cookie cutter action games, positively lame movie tie-ins, and their sports games do little more than update rosters and tweak graphics from year to year. They've lost a ton of money lately and deservedly so - I think people are starting to get wise to their lax QC standards.
I did read somewhere that 2k Games was going to be releasing another football game, albeit without the NFL license. I guess they've heard the complaints levied at EA and are willing to take a chance that people will buy another brand of football, even without the NFL logo.

I'll be picking it up as well, primarily for the single player mode. I'll probably get the $70 limited edition as $130 is just too much money for a game, helmet or no helmet.

Maybe we should force you to wear it anyway when you play against us as a sort of handicapping scheme.
Seriously though, I don't like the helmet because it is more a holder for the video games than an actual prop. I also haven't been able to get any solid info on what it's made of. Resin? plastic? really cheap plastic? Nobody seems to know.

Tony, we still haven't played Halo 2, and it is quite possible you're better than I am...
Although I highly doubt that.
When are we all gonna play? Barry, you, RA and myself? We can play two on two, and free for all. Or if you're all bad, three on one. Hehe.
I am willing to give it a go, always willing to sacrifice my reputation for your humor Night.
The different time zones will make this historic confrontation something of a challenge, especially if that crazy transplanted Texan RogueAgent decides to join in. If this goes down Friday or Saturday night, I'll look for you all online.
Just a word of warning Barry, Nightshooter is a Grade-A hustler when it comes to videogames, so beware.

Man, two big things going down in the videogame world for me right now...
Im hopin got pick up S.T.A.L.K.E.R. after waiting 5 years for it, so I am very excited as I hope to get it on Saturday.
In addition, I found an awesome deal on a new computer so I dont think I am going to go nex-gen. Im talking Dual-Core, 2 GB RAM, 512mb 7900 graphics card (which ill upgrade to an 8800 at christmas) for $600, so im psyched.

Hope you enjoy your new rig 0064, but that one little paragraph above is a microcosm for why I don't do PC gaming anymore: you haven't even bought it yet, and you're already talking about upgrading it. The technology (especially for gaming) is superceded nearly every 6 months and it's impossible to keep the rig current for any meaningful length of time. And then there's the constant patching, downloading, driver updating, and so on. I stopped gaming on PC's because I spent more time downloading updates and tweaking my system than I did actually playing games.
While the graphics may not be up to the standards of the highest end PC's (although the gap has closed quite a bit in this generation) there's a lot to be said for a dedicated console's plug 'n play simplicity. The hardware investment is, by and large, a one time thing and after that you can spend your dollars on the games - not additional hardware to be able to make them run.
Sorry for the rant; I still haven't recovered from spending over $3,000 on a custom built gaming PC several years ago only to see it become badly dated in about a year. Never again for me.
Eh, its a bit more expensive but it is far better. You get mods which are like free games, plus you dont have to pay to play (with WoW being a key exception), FPS' are far better (its where they started) and RTS' is a genre only playabel on the PC (ok, a few exceptions).
As for the upgrade, its merely me, I want a Dx10 card, but I wont have enough money when I get the comp, so I have to save. As for the graphics gap Tony, your right, for now. But you got to remember that this gen is on par with the PC's and will be for a year, when the PC's will begin to pull away again as technology moves ahead. It was the same thing when the PS2 and Xbox came out. They looked just as good as the PC games, but in 2004, the PC was WAY ahead, so I think that its worth it.
As for the $3000 investment, I dont know how into PC gaming you were, but I too have a comp that is 1.5 years old and bad already (granted, its a laptop), but Ive learned from my mistakes and now I know exactly what to go for. This comp that im getting is the price of a PS3, so im getting it for cheap. this computer would cost $2200 from Dell.

When are we all gonna play? Barry, you, RA and myself? We can play two on two, and free for all. Or if you're all bad, three on one. Hehe.
My talents are limited so I am going in with limted expectations Tony.
All in good fun.
Are you referring to the Hold 'Em, Tony?
