IGN's Xbox 360 site has put up an article on the 360 games coming out thru the summer. Two Worlds intrigues me (understandable after my Oblivion binge) and September looks like it will be an expensive month.
Manly....lets play uno!!! And yes, the Blu-Ray is winning....PC FTW!!!!
PC FTW? Sorry, I'm not up on all these acronyms.
BTW, I picked up DiRT, the new offroad racing game for the Xbox 360 today. I only played a couple of races but the visuals are absolutely stunning. On my new TV the off-road courses were almost photo-realistic. The control is your typical loose off-roading setup but is a lot of fun once you get familiar with it.
\
I loved the Dirt demo. I had a ton of fun with the off-road buggies and the driving mechanics were quite nice....and of course, the graphics were stunning...
As for Two Worlds....i might pick this one up too as ive wanted to try the MMO genre, and this one has great single and MMO play....so I might like it alot!!!
And I make quite the convincing n00b dont i Night...:p

New GTA4 trailer is out... it looks incredible. Seriously, I can't wait to play that game. More so than any other GTA, this one looks amazing. Perhaps because this will probably the best representation of NYC that we've ever gotten in a game(even though it isn't even really NYC)?

I agree...even my mom...who hates GTA and all things pixular said it looks really "nice". You hit it spot on....i want that game...

I hope the controls are improved this time around. I tried a couple of the GTA games and could never get comfortable with them. The driving always seemed to loose and shooting too imprecise compared to other games. I also hope the storyline cuts back on the more...ahem...questionable activities of the prior games. I know it's a part of the games history but I could do with a little less profanity.
I've been spending most of my gaming time lately with Forza Motorsport 2. The racing in this one can get quite intense (very good AI and computer controlled drivers) and the career mode, with its car acquisition, gets very addictive. The cars handle very realistically and you can really tell the difference between rear, front and all-wheel drive cars. The car painting setup is also very deep and versatile and lets you create some wild designs; I'm actually working on a Green Lantern paint scheme.

Tony, I tried PoP and was impressed with the graphics, but the control was too unresponsive, leading to unfair deaths. I also tried Castlevania, which seemed very cool, and I might pick that up at some point.

I actually decided to buy PoP last night but you're right, the control could be better. Even worse are the sword fights; in the later levels they get quite hard and even blocking doesn't always work. Luckily, you can save your game after each level, but no way on Earth I could ever get thru this thing in 60 minutes.
As for Castlevania, I tried that a while ago but I just could not get past the 8-bit graphics and the fact that it barely fills half my scree. The developers should have really gone the route of PoP and redone the graphics to make it look more up to date.
One of the neat things you can do with Forza Motorsport 2 is create your own custom paint schemes, use them in races and upload them to the net. There are already some amazing looking cars out there. I'm not much of an artist, but here's a quick Green Lantern paintjob I whipped up for my Eagle Talon. Click the image for a larger version:

AWESOME! Now I have to get the game even if I stink at racing games. Well, I was okay on Project Gotham.
Damn good job, Tony. B-)

Thanks Rogue, but my humble efforts are nothing compared to some of the cars I've seen online. The paint program is actually quite advanced and it allows you to add layers upon layers of images, which can lead to some really amazing pieces. Once I earn some more credits, I'll buy a proper car like a Ferrari and take a stab at a more detailed GL paint scheme; that will be my signature car.
As for the game, it is a ton of fun and quite addictive. By starting with the simpler cars and working your way up, you really improve your skills - I've gotten farther with this one than any other "racing sim" game.
Here's a Batman Begins themed car I came across:

Went on the old Xbox today, first time in a long time. Saw that Tony and Night were on. Downloaded End of the World Pirates of the Carribean. Will check it out and see if it is any good.
A little Halo'd out. Need a break before Halo 3 in September.

I saw you on there ... for about 3 minutes; you were gone before I could send a greeting. Since I picked up my new TV I've been replaying games I haven't touched in months to see how they look. I tried a little Project Gotham Racings and the rust wasn't too bad. I'm still up for a little friendly competition with you all one of these days.
I played the Pirates demo a couple of weeks ago. The graphics are amazing but the gameplay got a little repetitive and the enemy AI was pretty weak. Might be worth a look at $20 but not more than that, IMHO.

Sorry I didn't stay longer Tony, once the game started downloading I left to keep an eye on the chicken I had on the grill. I was at Best Buy today looking at notebook compuyers for my daughter to take back to school and wandered over to the TV section. Kind of depressed me because the televisions are so cool and flat panels so unobtrusive. I have a 35" HD set, but I got it just before the emergence of the flat panels so it is a full bodied unit. Can't see getting rid of it just to get a flat panel.
I will check out Pirates tomorrow and let you know what I think.

You'll notice me playing non-stop Rainbow Six Vegas, these days. The multiplayer just doesn't get old.

I hate those tube TV's; they're so big and unweildly and it always takes at least two people to move them. The flat panels are very nice, but one trend I've noticed that I don't like is that they are getting heavier and heavier. The 52" Sony I just got is an LCD so it should be relatively light (which is always touted as an advantage). But Sony saw fit to add a solid glass frame around the thing so now it weights around 120 lbs. Other companies are doing the same kind of thing to make the casings stand out more. By way of comparison, I have a 26" hi-def LCD that I bought a couple of years ago and I can pick that thing up with one hand.

I've noticed you're spending a lot of time with the game; I fired it up last night myself to see what it looked like on the new TV. Do you prefer deathmatch or co-op?
NightshooterIn bed with SolitairePosts: 2,917MI6 Agent
I like both. Terrorist hunt is really fun, although it can be frustratingly difficult. However, you can usually take out a bunch of guys before you die (on realistic setting, normal is easy). In Survival, which is deathmatch with only one life, it is more tense and you don't have much time to think when you come across an enemy, so you have to have really good reflexes. I'm getting better at it, and having a blast, too.

Speaking of Rainbow Six: Vegas, did you download the Black map pack? It's now FREE on the marketplace.
I was doing a little single player terrorist hunt last night and it is very hard as there seem to be a lot of 1 hit deaths in that mode. It is fun though. Still haven't tried multiplayer with this game; maybe we can do a few rounds if you're up to it one of these days. I also know RogueAgent has this game so if he ever gets online maybe we can all give it a go.
I've also been replaying some Halo 2 to see what it looks like on the new TV. It's pretty amazing how much additional detail I'm seeing compared to my old TV.
And as an FYI to any 360 owners, Circuit City is selling Virtua Tennis 3 for $17. It's a very solid and deep tennis game featuring lots of real world players, tons of tournaments and venues, and even online play. It still sells for $50 at most other outlets. I picked it up over the weekend and it's a lot of fun, a real bargain at $17.
Microsoft has just extended the warranty on the 360 to 3 years against the dreaded "red ring of death". They pretty much acknowledged that the failure rate for the console is too high and that there was a problem with the console as it was being previously manufactured. Here's a link to their official statement:
Personally, I think the only people really at risk were those who were using their 360 very very heavily, but it is reassuring to know that most people are now covered until 2009 / 2010.
NightshooterIn bed with SolitairePosts: 2,917MI6 Agent
I think a lot of people put their 360 places where it can easily overheat. Mine is always cool, because it has plenty of room in an A/V rack. Problem is, most people don't have the space, and I think that has to do with the high failure rate.
As for Terrorist Hunt, what difficulty level were you playing on? On Realistic, the one hit deaths are everyhwere, but that is part of the challenge. My advice is to play it with friends online, so that it is easier and you can watch each other's backs.
What weapon do you use, Tony? I use the MP5N for close range, and the FAMAS for longer range. Your weapon is very important.

Most of the HW failures I've read about resulted from overheating so you're probably right that keeping it in a well ventilated area is healthy for the system. Still, having a 3 year warranty is a nice safefy net. But it will cost MS a fortune.

I've been playing on normal in single player and I can't tell you how many times I've killed over 90% of the terrorists before getting pegged. It's just tough for me to make a perfect run thru a scenario with just one life.

I not really sure what weapon I'm using. I just use the default loadout and make sure I have a weapon with a good scope.
NightshooterIn bed with SolitairePosts: 2,917MI6 Agent
There is a BIG difference when you think about weapons and your comfort with each one. Try out each of them and see what you like best.
If you think Normal is hard... TRY REALISTIC! And what enemy density do you play on?
Also, the easiest map is LVU Campas. The only one I can beat on my own on Realistic, high density.
Played Pirates today and Tony's assesment that the game was visually very impressive, but had repetitive game play held true. The sword fighting was too simple, even for me. I played the demo, perhaps the full blown version is more interesting.
I saw the story on Microsoft's extended warranty, all in all a fair thing for a company to do. It admitted a problem and took action, can't ask for more than that. Now I just hope I don't get the problem.

Most movie tie-ins end up being disappointing and sadly the pattern holds true for this one as well. The reviews have not been too kind either.

Well, look at the bright side: now your 360 is covered until 2010. And as Night says, as long as you keep it well ventilated and don't beat it to the ground you should be just fine.
Well, I might go out and fork up some money for a console. I love my new PC, but the framerates are sporatic for every game.I want something that I know will play games smooth and will look great at the same time. I really want to see games like Oblivion and Bioshock on high w/o framerate clips. It also looks like most of the games I want are heading to consoles so having my PC to run PC exclusive games (crysis...cant wait) and the console to run everything else should be nice. I think I should have one by the end of summmer as I have a $10/ hour job building an addition to and then re-roofing our families shed. As for which console, if the PS3 is really going down in price, maybe that one, but I think the 360 is probably the way to go especially if I want world in conflict and Bioshock. So maybe ill see you guys out on the battlefield soon!!!

Not to say I told you so ... aw what the heck, I told you so! Welcome to the wonderful world of PC gaming where your system is obsolete by the time you take it home; where you spend more time tweaking your games than playing them; and where a system optimized for one game will almost certainly crash another. These days I never spend more than $500 on a CPU; with that amount of cash, I always get a box with enough memory and horsepower to surf the web, check my email and do some photo-editing. If I want games, I go to my console.
Seriously though, there are very strong indications that Sony will announce a price cut for the PS3 next week at E3. As to which console is the better deal, if it's games you want, I still feel the 360 is the way to go - more games, more exclusives, and the cross-platform games have been uniformly looking and playing better on the 360. And, now you'll get a nice 3 year warranty at no extra charge.

Well, first off, my computer can run everything on max spec smoothly, its just Vista that makes things weird...
As for the console, Im not totally sure (whats new), but I just dont like the 360...Its ugly as hell, a little too noisy and it over heats....and where I live anything over heating overheats big time...its around 100 degrees in my room during the summer so it wont last long...plus, even with the warranty, I dont want to have to send it back....its a pain. plus, I think the PS3 will have a longer shelf life than the 360, whih means that it has the chance to last me through college, which is something that makes me happy because i wont have money to buy a new console then...thats a big thing for me to think about. Plus, I plan on owning my PS3 for more than 4 years, so the PS3 is cheaper in the long run. Also, come to think of it, many of the 360's top games come to the PC anyways, so ill be able to bridge the gap...sure, ill take the performance hit on a few games, but its an acceptable loss if its only a few.
I also still have faith in good 'ol sony....my PS2 never let me down and it seems to me that Sony may finally realize its not big and powerful and that it needs to put some money into making good games and put features into their console that are hard to beat. And, come to think of it, I like alot more exclusives for the PS3 than the 360...I really want to play MotorStorm, WarHawk (especially Warhawk), Heavenly Sword, resistance, and Uncharted: Drake's fortune. Im not too into Halo, Crackdown and Gears. so, I guess the PS3 is MY logical choice...
0064, I have to say: your posts are gems. Seeing you rationalize your decisions is almost as much fun as watching RogueAgent stress out over Daredevil's movie costume. )
It may interest you to know that today, July 7, 2007, I went to the Darkside. Yes, I bought a PS3. I'll provide pics as proof if you doubt my good word, but hopefully it won't be necessary. If you want initial impressions, head on over to the PS3 thread.
I take you word...it might be good luck...i mean 7/7/07!!!! Anyways...good for you!!!
As for my rationalification (spiffy word eh?)...thanks
EDIT: I also just realized I have nothing to play right now....ive beaten everything I own bajillions of times ('cept Oblivion...im sick of it)...I need SOMETHING to play....grrrrrr....

And yes, I just got owned by tony....
It may interest you to know that today, July 7, 2007, I went to the Darkside. Yes, I bought a PS3. I'll provide pics as proof if you doubt my good word, but hopefully it won't be necessary. If you want initial impressions, head on over to the PS3 thread.
As for my rationalification (spiffy word eh?)...thanks
EDIT: I also just realized I have nothing to play right now....ive beaten everything I own bajillions of times ('cept Oblivion...im sick of it)...I need SOMETHING to play....grrrrrr....
