It may interest you to know that today, July 7, 2007, I went to the Darkside. Yes, I bought a PS3. :o I'll provide pics as proof if you doubt my good word, but hopefully it won't be necessary. If you want initial impressions, head on over to the PS3 thread.

Don't worry Barry, the 360 is still tops on my list - and it's going to stay that way. The PS3 is going to be more for other stuff - hi-def playback and such. I might even play around with Linux on it as the PS3 is basically a computer without a keyboard. But its games are still lacking compared to the 360 and I have a feeling it will stay that way for a long time.

And if you feel the need to blame somebody, blame Nightshooter; he's the one who brought up this price reduction. I always knew he'd be a bad influence on me. :v

Looks like a bunch of new demos and other content will be uploaded to Xbox Live this week to coincide with E3.

The Ace Combat 6 demo went up today; looking forward to trying it tonight after work.

Taking a break in my schedule, I was playing Ultimate Alliance the other night and was told by a friend (that doesn't even have the game) that I had to fight Arcade. Is this true? If so, is it one big pinball game that you're in?

Also, do I get to battle with The Purple Death in this? :D

Once I get caught up enough to play it more than every blue moon, I'm getting LIVE back. Playing as Cap is awesome. ;)

Yes, you do fight Arcade. It's the end boss confrontation for that level but it's not pinball. As to a hint, think Human Cannonball. :D ;)

Don't go all fanboy on me. Do you mean Galactus? If yes, then yes, he's another end boss for a late level (the Skrull Homeworld) in the game.

Well, I still have the game and I've leveled up both Cap and Iron Man to frightening levels. So once you get online, we can re-enact some great comic book teamups. :))

BTW, I just downloaded and played the demo to Ace Combat 6 for the 360. It's a Top Gun style jet combat game and the graphics are absolutely freakin' amazing. The clouds and water effects are uncanny.

Tony, remember the problems we had with Marvel Alliance online? I'd love to play the game with you guys (I thought I was gonna be Cap, but I could be Wolvie or Spidey if Rogue needs to be Cap), but if we keep losing connection...
  • NightshooterNightshooter In bed with SolitairePosts: 2,917MI6 Agent
Oh god damnit. Just playing the Dirt demo (which I still don't like) and guess what color my 360 ring turns? I mean, I just restarted it and it works ok, I'll play a little and hope it doesn't happen again.
  • NightshooterNightshooter In bed with SolitairePosts: 2,917MI6 Agent
It might have had to do with the storm as it is working fine now.

It may have just been a problem with the MUA servers on that night; I doubt Activision and MS would tolerate that level of net failure consistently. We'll have to try it again at some point; and hopefully Rogue will have graduated to the 21st century.

It's always scary when you see the red ring. But it can mean anything: overheating, power problems, or a general failure. Just because you get it doesn't mean your system is terminal. Just have fun with your 360 and remember that you're covered for at least another year and a half.
  • NightshooterNightshooter In bed with SolitairePosts: 2,917MI6 Agent
I think there was a small power failure.

    Thanks, Tony! GALACTUS!

I fought Fing Fang Foom(gotta be the dumbest name for a villian) and defeated him by having Cap hurl the shield. It's addictive. :D

I don't mind if Night wants to be Cap if we all play online but The Thing has to show me more impressive skills as he powers up.

I'm cool with being Wolvie or Spidey or Silver Surfer if you like Cap, man. Honestly, although I love his power, throwing the shield isn't as easy as it should be.

I also tried Ace Combat 6, the demo, and all I can say is WOW! BEAUTIFUL, and FUN! This is a game I will pick up.

Another backward compatibility update has just gone up. Lots of new games added to the list including three I had been hoping for: Outrun 2, Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil, and Justice League Heros. Sadly, no more Bond games other than Nightfire have gotten the BC treatment yet.

Rogue, buy yourself a hard drive and get JLH, it's a great game and if you're enjoying MUA, you'll love JLH. Night, PGR1 and PGR2 are now BC as well.

Here's the complete list of the new games:

Okay, RA can definitely be Cap. I have more fun playing as Spidey or Silver Surfer. However, I don't know which to choose. Silver Surfer is definitely better, but he may be TOO good. What do you guys think?

Given your superior skills, you need to play with a weaker character ... maybe somebody like Dum Dum Dugan :))

Seriously though, as long as I can be Iron Man, you can pick any character you like. You did seem to enjoy Spiderman and Wolverine when we played.
  • NightshooterNightshooter In bed with SolitairePosts: 2,917MI6 Agent
Haha, but considering we're on the same team, I think playing as a good character would be a good thing.

You know, I was playing, and wondering why Spidey was so weak, when I realized that his modifier was Loki's Gift, which was automatically given to him. The weird thing is, this gift reduces your damage output by 25% and increases your damage intake by 15%! Afterwards, Spidey proved to be quite good, but not good enough to defeat Doctor Doom. I got close, but by the time my compatriots died, I just couldn't beat him. However, the Surfer is incredible. I defeated Doom without too much trouble. And playing as the Surfer is just so pretty, all of his attacks are so fun to watch.

So I think I've decided on Surfer. So the roster is Surfer, IM, and Cap. But who will be the AI controlled 4th charatcter? A scantily clad female, perhaps, such as Electra or Ms. Marvel? A behemoth such as the Thing, or Colossus? Nick Fury(Ultimate version, of course!)? RA, Tony, what do we think?
  • TonyDPTonyDP Inside the MonolithPosts: 4,307MI6 Agent
First of all, Loki is the god of mischief, so it makes sense that his powerup would power you down.

As to a 4th member, I found Ms. Marvel to be a very powerful character once she levels up - so she would be my choice.
  • NightshooterNightshooter In bed with SolitairePosts: 2,917MI6 Agent
Sorry, I didn't mean I found it odd that Loki's powerup was bad for you, I meant that I found it odd that it auto equipped it.

I don't know much about Ms. Marvel. Care to enlighten me?

Don't know much about her background other than her powers seem to be similar to Captain Mar Vell's. When I was playing MUA, I set my team up to be the avengers (Cap, Thor, Iron Man, Ms. Marvel) to get the team bonus and her character was able to inflict a lot of damage from the getgo and also had some powers that boosted her teammate's stats.
  • NightshooterNightshooter In bed with SolitairePosts: 2,917MI6 Agent
Oh man, I played some more today, and I STILL can't decide between Surfer and Spidey. They are both so cool, I think Spidey is a little more fun to play because you use melee more than the Surfer, but the Surfer is better and his attacks are really cool looking, but you almost never use melee attacks with him.

If only I had a clear favorite like you do, Tony. Tony, you play with IM in his classic costume, right? Best one, I agree. I alternate costumes with Spidey, but I think I like the Iron Spider costume a lot.

Where is RA in all this discussion? And why does he not yet have LIVE?
  • NightshooterNightshooter In bed with SolitairePosts: 2,917MI6 Agent
Tony, you should download the Stuntman demo. It is AWESOME, but incredibly frustrating.

Downloading it now. My eyes are really tired though so I'll try it tomorrow. I'd heard the same thing about the difficulty level on some other sites; I notice that the developers really ratchet the difficulty in a lot of these demos (GRAW and Virtua Tennis come to mind) so I wouldn't necessarily think that the game itself is as difficult.

BTW, I noticed that Pirates of the Caribbean is already down to $40 at Target. Still a little high for me (gameplay in the demo was too repetitive) but the visuals were top notch and I might get it if/when it drops to around $20.

I may spring for the Harry Potter game. The idea of a really full Hogwarts that is free for you to roam is pretty cool. I've never been a fan of the books, but I really liked the new movie, so I may give it a shot.

Found this little clip from a Xbox press conference, hope you find it somewhat interesting. Have to sit through a little commercial before the story.

If there's one thing we can all learn from that clip it's that corporate bigwigs make very poor rockstars. Watching Peter Moore trying to be a guitar god was almost as embarrassing as Jeff Gordon's dance number on Regis and Kelly :))

You can find high-res previews to a lot of those games on Xbox Live. The Halo 3 video looked action packed and they're definitely going for a more cinematic presentation this time.

And on a sidenote, looks like we've all carried this thread to 101 pages. Way to go X-Men!!!
