Tony, you should download the Stuntman demo. It is AWESOME, but incredibly frustrating.

I just tried this one for a little bit; can't say I cared much for it at all. It really is frustrating, mainly because the vehicles are so slow to respond and hard to control. There's also a little too much "try and die" for my tastes as you're never really sure of what you're supposed to be doing until you go thru each level a few times; a sure fire way to artificially increase the length of the game. I think I'll be passing on this one.

I liked it because the final result is just awesome. I mean, in real racing games, or even games with action racing, the end result is never as cool as you want it to be.

Was playing some Halo 2 last night, I am progressing slowly, but surely. Just want to say I must be the worst Warthog driver around. I find that thing terribly difficult to control. Last night all I had to do was drive it a little ways where I was then supposed to extend a bridge. Well I was going sideways, wrongways, every way but the right way. Anyway, I eventually got there. Wondering if anyone else has trouble navigating that thing.

I love the Warthog, but preferred it in Halo 1 more. It is something you need to get used to, but the powersliding is amazing.

The Warthog is a pain to drive for me as well. I think it's because they mapped both steering and acceleration to the same stick on the control pad. If they had just mapped steering to the left stick and acceleration to the right stick or the triggers it would drive like in 99% of all other games and be much easier to control.

What I found that helps is to not look at the Warthog while you're driving it. Instead, look to the horizon ahead of you and point the stick on the control pad in the direction you want to go relative to that. It's tough to explain, but I find it a bit easier when I don't focus on the vehicle itself.

In the new OXM issue, the Rumor Mole reports that it is very likely that MGS4 will be heading to the Xbox 360 a few months after the PS3 version... looks like I won't need a PS3 after all...

I'll never understand the appeal of MGS; the characters are beyond corny, most of the game time is passively spent watching cinemas or listening to inane dialog, and the plots are so convoluted they barely make sense. Obviously, I'm missing something here. Oh well, give me Splinter Cell any day.
  • NightshooterNightshooter In bed with SolitairePosts: 2,917MI6 Agent
The one thing MGS has that Splinter Cell doesn't? Emotion. I've never been moved or had any feelings during a Splinter Cell game, and I would never watch it if it were a movie. The plots are boring.

However confusing the MGS plots may be, the characters and their interactions have a way of bringing emotion into gaming. You get attached to the characters. At least I did. MGS2 is definitely one of my favorite games of all time.

Haven't even turned my 360 on for over a month now. Mainly down to being really busy. But made an impulse buy of a Nintendo Wii today. Only got the console and Wii sports. Set it up and tried all games out. Just a couple of go's at each. Felt like I was playing for about 15mins but an hour had passed and I had worked up a good sweat. I really enjoyed it, but I think the longevity will not last and I'll be giving it to my brother in a month. We will see.

That's pretty much my Wii story as well; fun out of the box but lacking in longevity. You may want to hold onto it until Metroid Prime 3 debuts as it is supposed to be coming along very nicely. Also, for what it's worth, Excite Truck was my favorite Wii game - good racing on some very fun tracks and the Wiimote controls actually worked well once you got used to the loose trucks. It's about the only Wii game I kind of miss playing.

As for the 360; summer is always slow but by the fall there should be something to strike your fancy - Halo 3, Mass Effect, Ace Combat 6, and many many more.

I just learned of a game I'm really excited about: Gundam Dynasty Warriors. It takes the premise of dynasty warriors: one man against many, and puts it into the Mobile Suit universe. It excites me becasue a few characters from Gundam Wing, one of my favorite childhood shows, which still holds up and may be even better as I age. I'm really looking forward to it: I've preordered it. It comes out in August so my wait isn't that long.

Japanese developed games for the 360 have been very much hit or miss. Are you sure you want to pre-order this one? I doubt seriously it would sell out when it debuts and it might be safer to wait for a few reviews or maybe a demo.

No, even if it sucks, I'll want it. I've been waiting for something like this game for awhile.

Also, there are plenty of positive reviews for the Japanese version, called Gundam Musou.

Kinda sounds like me with Star Trek: Legacy (I still have that game but I never loaded it up anymore).

I downloaded the demo to The Darkness today. Very strange game: it's a first person shooter involving a gangster trying to get revenge on his uncle who tried to have him killed, but with supernatural / horror elements - your character is possessed by a creature which manifests itself thru some very bizarre abilities. I believe the game is based on a comic of the same name.

It was very well done and has some really good visuals; the gunplay and Darkness powers are also well implenented. I liked it but I have too many games I haven't devoted enough time to already; by the time I get thru them this will probably be down to around $30.

RogueAgent might like it though since it mixes two of his favorite genres.

I noticed that; there was a TV in one of the rooms that was playing an actual movie. I've read that there are several hours of video that display on various TV's throughout the game.

Just as an FYI, I've heard that the demo to NASCAR 08 is supposed to be up on Xbox Live today. I'll be downloading it tonight to see what EA has done with the game.

Are there any other good horror games as creepy as CONDEMNED (which I'm too punked at the moment to proceed) out there for the 360?

Also, not sure if you guys have been racking up on the old console games at your local store but the Gamestop up the street here are pretty much giving away alot of their games new in box.

I got about 5 new games for a total of maybe 30 bucks. One of those acquisitions,Cold Fear, despite critics bashing it, is turning out to be a pleasant surprise for me. Disturbing & creepy.
Mrs. Man Face: "You wouldn't hit a lady? Would you?"

Batman: "The Hammer Of Justice is UNISEX!"

Oh, be a man and go finish Condemned. It's just a game Rogue. :p ;)

You may want to try The Darkness. It's a first person shooter / horror hybrid based on the comic of the same name. You play a mafia hitman who gets possesed by a dark creature and is able to manifest strange, supernatural powers. This may punk you out less since you're inflicting the horror rather than being terrorized by it. There's a demo on Xbox Live (but you need the hard drive attachment to download it). I liked the demo quite a bit and it has gotten some good reviews.

Vampire Rain is another new action horror game. It combines vampire hunting with detective work; although the critics have not been too kind.

Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil for the original Xbox is now backwardly compatible with the system; it looks and plays great on the 360. That's another sci-fi / horror game you may enjoy.

:)) Man, I don't care. It works on me pretty good and I'm not ashamed to admit it. :))
I was looking at two bums duking it out, I turn around to look at something and the next thing I know there's a guy attacking me with a sledgehammer. I mean he's slow but still... :))

I just feel, from my standpoint at least, if a horror game can't work with your mind and actually scare you it's not worth my money at all.

The opinions on FEAR have been mixed from what I've heard on tv and the net. I am interested to find out what it's about but isn't that a PC game though?

Fear is also available for the 360; the game is another FPS / horror hybrid. Overall, it's gotten generally positive word of mouth. Here are links to a few reviews that talk about the game:

I tried the demo a while ago and thought it was OK but not great; the graphics in the demo were only so-so but it definitely did have a high creepiness factor. Not worth $60 in my opinion but maybe worth a look at $20-$30. As I mentioned before, you may want to invest in a hard disk for your 360 as it will allow you to download and try out demos to many of these games.

BTW, of interest to Barry Nelson, I also tried out the NASCAR 08 demo for the 360 today. In short, I was very disappointed. There was only one track avaialble - Daytona - and no options for tweaking difficulty or car setups. Now, Daytona is probably one of the worst tracks to evaluate a game with, but since that's all EA gave us, I can't say I cared much for this year's effort. The track and backgrounds all have a coarse look to them and the car models are very jaggy. Maybe I've been spoiled by the Forzas and PGRs of the world but the cars also seemed very hard to control (and the utterly useless rearview mirror that stretched the image didn't help). The computer controlled drivers would constantly ram into me and, even though I followed their line, I could never catch up to them once they passed me. All in all, I don't think this game is running on a new engine; it looks like an Xbox game to me and controls about the same as previous years' games that I've played (which is to say, not very well). The AI is also suspect with cars constantly passing below the yellow line and the draft not seeming to work at all. Again, I know this was only a demo, but I was very disappointed and don't think this game is worth $60 based on what I saw. Looks like EA dropped the ball again and even though I'm disappointed I can't say I'm too surprised.

i dont know how many of you saw the MGS4 15 miute gameplay trailer or the KillZone2 footage, but man...I was insanely impressed....in MGS4 and KZ2, grpahics were first rate, and the gameplay was intense...hopefully MGS4 will come to a more accessible system (ie the 360 or PC) and ive got Area 51 to play instead of Killzone. Nonetheless, it appears Sony might be going the right direction at last...

I'll check it out this weekend; I was playing a little more God of War today as well as messing around with a wireless keyboard/mouse I just got. Lots of demos have gone up lately that I want to try, including the new MotoGP game. So many games, so little time.
  • NightshooterNightshooter In bed with SolitairePosts: 2,917MI6 Agent
I didn't notice the MotoGP demo. I've loved every single MotoGP demo I've played, but never bought any of the games. It better be great to convince me this time, especially since PGR4 will have motorcycles.

Played the Gundam demo a little more, and I think it is awesome. Really pretty Gundams and explosions. Also, the combat is solid if a little repetitive, but it isn't boring at all. I think you kill something like 600 enemies in the demo, so the fact that I didn't get bored at all shows how much I liked the game. There are mini bosses throughout the level, and a final boss. The best way to take care of them is to build up your special attack and fire that at them until they die, while occasionaly meleeing them. I've found that blocking isn't all that effective against bosses, but the dash button is incredibly useful, and fun.

Tony, try this game and let me know what you think. By the way, the Gundam in the demo is one of my personal favorites, Wing Zero, piloted by Heero Yui. You also fight another of my favorite Gundams, Epyon, piloted by Miliardo Peacecraft, who, although only being a sub-boss, is the toughest enemy in the level.
