Lol....no no no...I am just kidding, though the reply's were better than my statement. No, I merely cant use a 360 in 3 months because first off, the games that were 360 exclusive that I wanted have passed, and I will son head off to college and im not sure i want to bring a console along. I think a PC will server me fine for the next 4 years. And im not quite sure how well i can write an essays on a 360 or PS3...

Good luck with college 0064. For once I agree with you; a 360 might be a significant distraction on campus; then again it might be a good way to break the ice with that cute classmate who will invariably be sitting next to you at some point. ;)

A PS3 on the other hand should be perfectly safe since there aren't any good games for it anyway. :p

I beat Halo 3 on normal solo campaign tonight. As to thoughts/impressions: great action, fun vehicles, the story is a bit disjointed relative to the action (part 2 had the same problem), pretty intense final level (brings back memories of Halo 1) and a really good ending that brings closure to the whole war with the Covenant while also leaving things open for future adventures with our favorite Spartan. Getting thru that penultimate level with the Flood was a bit of a pill but it was definitely manageable by one person, on normal mode at least.

Getting the achievement for beating the final level also put me over the 10,000 achievement point mark, which is kind of fitting since the orignal Halo was the first Xbox game I bought.

By the way, for anybody who finishes the game, Make Sure You Sit Thru The Credits if you want to see the complete ending and get your achievement points.

Final verdict: big thumbs up and a long term keeper. I'll definitely have to give the adventure another whirl at some point.

Glad everyone is enjoying it. Last week while in Vegas my son called and said it was the best game he ever played.

I just recently started playing, I finished level 1 today. So far I am enjoying it, but I obviousely have a long way to go. I promise to finish before Halo 4. :))

    Guys... MULTIPLAYER!!!!!

And Tony, told you that level sucked. Imagine it on Heroic. Or, gulp, Legendary.

I played some multiplayer with my friends today (split screen) and, of course, owned them all. I want to play with you guys! And beat you. And make you cry. Well, make RA cry, at least.

Also PGR4 is out now and I'll HAVE to pick it up.

On normal, the level was about as bad as The Library level from the original Halo. Most of the level wasn't that bad but there were 3 or 4 chokepoints where you were just blasted from all sides; it was a pain but manageable. I don't even want to think about trying it by myself on heroic or legendary though. One thing that did help was using the cloaking device to get thru the more crowded sections; they were lying around all over the place. It also wasn't nearly as hard backtracking thru it after finding Cortana - again the occasional cloaking device lying around helped out a bit.

I'm up for a little MP - coop or deathmatch, but first I need to finish Crackdown as Halo 3 sidetracked me on that game. I only have a couple of sub-bosses and the main ShinGen boss left so I should be able to polish it off in a couple of days.

I hope to pick up PGR4 this weekend (if not sooner); it's gotten some great writeups and I'm really looking forward to trying out the new courses and motorcycles. I'll also be curious how much of PGR3's content was carried over; if all the same tracks are there, I might just trade the older game in.

BTW, did you ever try that demo to Spiderman: Friend or Foe? The demo was pretty easy and the game doesn't seem as open-ended as the games based on the movies but I still thought it was kind of fun in a simplistic beat-em-up kind of way. Too many games right now, but when it drops below $30 it might be worth a look.

I saw an article that said twice as many 360's as normal were purchased last week, might have something to do with Halo 3 I think.

I also saw an advertisement for a game called Mass Effect that I thought looked, at least visually, very interesting.

I was at a few electronics stores over the weekend and I didn't see a single core or premium 360 in stock anywhere. Just a handful of Elite's and Halo Limited Editions. So the game is definitely moving consoles. It was also the No. 1 selling game in Japan this past week, no small feat for a western game in a society that normally shuns first person shooters.
I also saw an advertisement for a game called Mass Effect that I thought looked, at least visually, very interesting.

Mass Effect looks to be one of Microsoft's stronger titles for the holiday season; it's a science fiction roleplaying game made by Bioware, one of the premier RPG developers. Really Looking forward to this one myself.

Mass Effect will be amazing. It is made by the same geniuses behind Knights of the Old Republic. You have complete control over your character's appearance and attitude, and dialogue as well throughout the game. Even better is that, unlike most RPGs, the combat is real time, and plays like a third person shooter. There are also vehicles to drive, and a gigantic ship is at your command. You can visit many, MANY planets as well. I am so excited...

I beat the campaign in Crackdown tonight; really fun and some of the best architecture I've ever seen in a videogame; when you climb to some of the highest skyscrapers in Pacific City and look down you really get a sense of depth and even a bit of vertigo.

    Now on to PGR4....

I picked up Project Gotham Racing 4 today and played a few races. It's a very good game and I like it a lot, but I'm still not sure if I like it as much as PGR3.

On the plus side, the graphics are definitely improved, the variable weather effects add a new dimension to the gameplay, and the bikes look like fun (haven't tried them yet though). But the new tracks I've played so far seem shorter and narrower than those in PGR3 so passing is more difficult here. The "hood cam" also seems lower to the ground than in PGR3; when you're drafting behind another car it looks like you're about three inches from the ground.

The career mode starts you off with lower class cars and bikes; so you have to deal with some less than exciting vehicles at the start and gradually work your way up. This is also a departure from PGR3 where you could get a Class A car right from the start and go thru the career with that.

The game retains its emphasis on kudos - it's even the currency by which you can buy new cars, tracks, game modes and other features.

All the tracks from the original game are included and there are several new cities. You also get a bunch of new 3D garages to go thru. There are also several game modes - arcade, career, free play and plenty of multiplayer options. A new version of Geometry Wars, "Waves", rounds out the features.

The game is definitely a buy and you get plenty of bang for your buck; but I think I'll be holding on to my copy of PGR3 just the same.

Ive been playing Enemy Territory: Quake Wars for about 4 days now and it is a blast...the graphics are insane, its a TON of fun and the weapons and the vehicles are insane. Plus, each class of soldier has its little tricks (deployable artillery, Demo Packs, Teleporters) which allow it to succeed. Plus, the maps are second to none. On map has you start in the African Desert, only to find a giant portal sitting there, you activate the portal and jump through...BAM, your in antarctica fighting at the aliens drop point...its intense and it is fun.
  • TonyDPTonyDP Inside the MonolithPosts: 4,307MI6 Agent
Quake Wars is coming out for the 360 so it's on my radar; but I'm curious, does it have any kind of a single player component or is it 100% multiplayer?
  • 00640064 Somewhere out west...Posts: 1,083MI6 Agent
All of the missions in sigle player are the multiplayer counterparts with bots...but these bots are insane...i only finish first on easy when i camp the jet spawn and only use jets...they are really good. So yes, it has a single player..

I've really been delving into the "Forge" feature of Halo 3 in the past few days, and I have to say, it is great. Along with the incredible customization of gametypes, being able to layout mas any way you want it awesome. You can design maps with really cool features. My friends and I have been tooling around with maps so that they'd be perfect for Zombie games - games where zombies with energy swords fight humans with weapons, and if a zombie kills a human, that human then becomes a zombie. Anyway, you can rebuild the maps with really cool things like hidden weapon stashes, gravity lifts to get to special areas, barricades (to stop zombies, of course) and much, much more. The depth is really incredible. Plus, the gametype customization is incredibly deep. You can change every little nuance about how you play the game, like health, starting weapons, speed and gravity, and special abilities like cloaking or radar distance (or lack thereof).

This game just keeps getting better and better.

Played some Halo myself today, have worked my way anout half way through. Really enjoying the game, probably action wise I like it the best of the three. Playing at normal level, I managed to progress fairly quickly and haven't died that often, I only got hung up on a couple levels, taking out the Scarab took awhile today, but for the most part my progress has been quicker than in the other games. That tells one of two things, either I am getting better, or this game is easier. What do you guys think?

BYW, Tony and Night I saw you were both online today. Tony I haven't had the pronblem you mentioned driving the vehicles, but then again that might be because I think backwards most of the time.
  • NightshooterNightshooter In bed with SolitairePosts: 2,917MI6 Agent
Barry, you're having an easier time on Normal probably because of two reasons:
    1) Your skill have developed as you've played more
    2) It really IS easier. Normal mode is like the Easy of the past. So that could have to do with it.

    Guys, let's play soon.

Probably a little bit of both. As Nightshooter says, the Normal difficulty is a bit easier than previous games but the more you play the more your reflexes, skills and hand-eye coordination improve. Good job old man. ;)

Yeah, I got the feel of it back pretty quickly (really enjoy driving around in the Mongoose). Ironically, I tried playing a little Restance on the PS3 today and I was all thumbs with that game's driving model since I'd gotten used to the Halo method again. ;%

Been playing around with a new toy and some other games the last couple of days (I'll post some info on the Sony PS3 thread) but I'll hopefully be getting back to Halo 3 in the next couple of days...

I know we all hate EA, but assuming what you just did is ridiculous. You think that Bioware and Pandemic, two incredibly gifted powerhouse studios, would let that happen? Neither of them would release something until it is ready.

Oh man, I can't wait for Mass Effect.

Acquisitions by EA are always a little iffy. Some have gone well, like Criterion. Others not so much.

It's probably a pretty safe bet that there will be no more console exclusives by these companies. Also looks like other studios will have to take over the Star Wars KOTOR and Battlefront licenses.

Looking forward to Mass Effect as well but, as I did with Halo 3, I'm trying to avoid any more info on the game so that it will be as fresh and new as possible to me when it finally debuts.

I feel your pain Night; but with PGR4, I really think Bizarre has taken this series about as far as they can. Once you try the game, I think you'll agree that it's more evolution than revolution relative to past entries. I wouldn't be surprised if that's why MS let them go to Activision rather than acquire them outright (it's not like they couldn't afford it).
  • NightshooterNightshooter In bed with SolitairePosts: 2,917MI6 Agent
And MSoft still actually owns the PGR name, so maybe they're looking for a new developer who can bring some new aspect to the table?
