I have dived back into STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl and, while the graphics are a bit dated, I am having a blast. Its fun to wander around a Soviet time capsul and look at all of the old buildings and such that were so faithfully redone into the game engine. I also quit World of Warcraft finally, and I have been playing a bit of the oldy-but-never-moldy game that Counter Strike Source is. Im hoping to pick up the Orange Box or some other game soon because I need something new to play. also, out of curiousity, did anyone pick up Frontlines Fuel of war?
Hey 0064, good to hear from you. How's school going?
There's a demo to Fuel of War for the 360; I'll try to DL it and follow up for you.
I picked up Turok and Blacksite: Area 51 as both games were on sale. Just played a little bit of Area 51, nothing too fancy with this one - just lost of mindless FPS action. The graphics are pretty good but a little on the glitchy side. As for Turok, the demo was only so-so but I got a good price on the game and hopefully it will have more variety to it.

School is ok, im definately starting to get lazy now that it is senio year. Been doing some work here and there, and Ive been making a bit of money. As for Frontlines, you dont need to download the demo for me as I did play in the beta, but im wondering if anyone with the full game can tell me if it has enough content to keep one occupied for a while.
BTW, I've been reading that the Wii version of the game will be vastly different from the 360/PS3 iteration - it will have simplified graphics (obviously) but will allow you to use the Wiimote as it if were a lightsaber. That may merit a second look at the Wii for me.
Tony, the mental image of you dancing around your room in a lightsaber duel with Darth Maul or someone brings a smile to my face. Be sure to move the lamps out of the way. )

As Darth Vader might say, I find your lack of faith disturbing. )
I was at Toys 'R Us Sunday looking to see what games might be on sale when I came across a line of about 50 people in the videogames section. My curiosity piqued, I drifted over to one of the sales reps, who told me they'd gotten about 100 Wii's and they were selling fast. He asked me if I wanted a ticket. I knew I was in trouble and I tried to get out of there, but it was no good. My eyes fogged over, I blacked out and by the time I regained my senses I was back outside, standing next to my car, a big bag in my hands containing a Wii and assorted accessories. What can I say, when it comes to electronics I have a very weak constitution.
Oh well, at least now I have all three "next-gen" systems on my TV (although calling the Wii next-gen is pushing it a bit). And getting back to that mental image of yours, upon unpacking the Wii, I was amused to see that the Wiimote now comes enclosed in a big soft silicon/rubber casing with nice soft edges. So hopefully the furniture will be safe when I do my lightsaber twirls. )

Well as addictions go, video gaming is one of the better ones. Enjoy your new toy and be careful out there.

That bit of news would solidify my son's arguement that I should buy him the Wii. That even piques my interests to go ahead and get it for him. B-)
I'll bet that Tony already owns Jedi clothes...I mean I really wouldn't put it past him with the collection he already has. He can really get into the act then... )

Sorry, no Jedi robes here. But I suppose I could tape the wiimote to one of my FX Lightsabers.
BTW, the Lego Star Wars: Complete Saga videogame for Wii also let you use the Wiimote like a lightsaber when you control a jedi or sith. I haven't bought it yet as I played all the old Lego Star Wars games already, but when it drops I may pick it up again to try it out.
There was a videogame sale at Amazon.com a couple of weeks ago and I picked up a couple of games. I just finished Blacksite: Area 51 for the 360 last night. Overall a pretty decent game with lots of things to shoot at. The graphics and gameplay were a little glitchy at times and the whole campaign was pretty short (it only took me about 8 hours) but it was still a fun ride while it lasted. The penultimate level, wherein you ride shotgun in a helicopter, was especially well done. Next up, Turok...

Well, the Wiis themselves are still sparse (although games and accessories are plentiful); so if you decide to get one, your best bet would be to hit a Circuit City or Best Buy or some equivalent store early on a Sunday, especially if they advertise the console in their circulars for that week. Be there an hour or so before they open and you should get lucky.

In short, a good effort from Ubisoft hampered only by some slowdown and the fact that the game looks and plays too much like its predecessor (pretty much the same complaints levelled at GRAW2). I'll definitely be picking this up at some point, but I'm not sure it's worth the current $60 pricetag.
Couple of other things on the 360 front that may interest you Night:
- I DL'd and played the Bring Down the Sky add-on to Mass Effect. Very good overall with lots of stuff to shoot at and a "moral dilemma" at the end that will warrant a second playthru of that portion to see all the endings. Sadly, there were no new weapons or other items of note. Definitely still worth the 400 points though.
- I spent most of the weekend playing Turok and overall I've been quite pleased with the game. The graphics and gameplay are definitely better than what was shown in the lackluster demo. The weapons are all very good, especially the flamethrower, knife and the bow & arrow (complete with explosive TEK arrows). The dinosaurs look amazing - there's different varieties of raptors and even a couple of confrontations with a T-Rex - and you can even fight them with just your knife (which turns out to be the most powerful weapon in the game if you get the timing right). The game's biggest shortcoming is that the checkpoints are spread really far apart and there are places where you get positively swarmed with wave after wave of enemies. As such, everytime you get killed you have to replay part of the level to get back to where you were before you were killed. I'm on the very last boss; he's giving me some trouble but I think I'll be able to take him down tonight.
- Also got a couple of Wii games: Metroid Prime 3 (decent graphics, very engrossing story and immersive Wii controls) and Tiger Woods 08 (lousy visuals but really great use of the Wiimote as your golf club - way more fun than playing golf with a control pad).
Not sure what to get next once I finish Turok; I may go for RS:V2 or maybe Army of Two. Any suggestions?

Tony- can you play Bring down the sky even if you've finished the game?
Tony- can you play Bring down the sky even if you've finished the game?
Unfortunately, no.
The mission is selected from the navigation map. As such, you need a game save prior to landing on Ilos (the final planet) since access to the navigation map is no longer available after that. If you don't have a savegame prior to that point, then you'll need to start a new game and work your way back to the point at which you gain command of the Normandy.
Hope that makes sense.

Rainbow Six 2 will be here today - will let you know what I think later.
Love it. Would talk more but... I have to go play.
If you ever play with me, you'll notice my character looks exactly like Sean Connery from The Rock.
Does that mean my character will have to look like Nicholas Cage? )
OK, I'm sold. I'll try to get it this weekend. I hear the co-op is very good so I'm definitely up for that.

It is very similar to the first one- but basically better in all the ways that I wanted it to be. The new weapons and new clothing are great. The A.C.E.S. system is actually a really cool way to access new weapons. Getting points for headshots, using grenades, killing people while rappelling, etc. are all really fun little things to try and do while playing the single player campaign and terrorist hunt. Multiplayer isn't as easy to rank up in (if you play without respawns, anyway).
Anyway, I'm really enjoying it. You'll be happy to know that the P99 is a viable pistol, so you can pretend to be Bond without worrying that your pistol isn't very good. However, I'm using the Beretta 92- after all, I need my Rock Connery to be accurate.
I wouldn't suggest being Nicholas Cage - you'd probably get killed too quickly.
Picked up RS:V2 today; I had a $20 off coupon at Best Buy so it only cost me 40 bucks. It took a little bit get reacquainted with the controls but I managed to get thru the first "flashback" level, which kind of reminded me of parts of the first level from Nightfire with the snow bound motif.

So Tony- any more thoughts on RSV2?
I've been XP boosting because I want to unlock the Riot Helmet.
loving RSV2 just a shame the camera slightly cut the top of my hair off so now I have a bald spot on the top of my head! so I'm now trying to unlock as many hats/helmets as possible

To be perfectly honest Night, I haven't picked up the game (or much of anything else, actually) since the day I bought it. Between work and other obligations, I just haven't had the the energy to focus on videogames lately. I think I've only played a few minutes of Pinball and a couple of rounds of Tiger Woods golf on the Wii over the last couple of weeks.
I'm sure I'll get back into it one of these days (although now I'll probably have to re-learn all the controls).
I got a PC game Sins Of a Solar Empire which is a strategy game and it is a good bit of fun. The graphics are technically ok, but artistically abosolutely insane. This game is a space based RTS so there are plenty of explosions and big ships. I recommend this game especially because it doesnt require an uber computer to run it nicely...check it out. Also, is everyone still liking vegas 2?
I can only comment on my single player experience and after playing about 3 or 4 levels I must confess to being a tad underwhelmed. The action is still there but the environments so far have been very bland and forgettable - your typical warehouses, basements and a pretty forgettable athletic building. I'm having trouble staying interested in the game and can only play one level every couple of days or I quickly get bored.
For a game called Rainbow 6: Vegas 2 the levels have lacked a certain pizazz so far. I also hear that the ending is, like the first game, very lame and anticlimactic.

Talking with classmates of his that own a Wii and have been praising the gameplay reignited his obsession to own one again.
Also there are alot of cool games coming down the pike for that system that he wants to be onboard with.
I took his turn-off with a grain of salt when he supposedly lost interest; you know kids.
