I'm six then. I watched Survivor a few years back, then said to heck with it. How are these shows "reality?" Like I'd ever end up stranded on an island, racing around the world, or (like in MTV's "Real World") living in a ritzy mansion in a cool city surrounded by hot college kids!

I saw a pic of the 12" figures with cloth costumes and they did have what looked like boots.
As for the Enterprise, I don't mind it looking sleeker (I never expected this movie to look 100% like the old show) but the nacelles do look a little too large and close together relative to the rest of the ship, though it could just be that angle. Every ship has its good sides and its bad sides, hopefully it will look better from other angles.

Do you have a link as to where I could see larger versions of the action figures? Maybe they're going with regular pants instead of those cut-off ones.
As far as the ship, it looked classic in the teaser...I was sorely mistaken.

I think I like the ship. The styling of the nacelles recalls, to me, the lines of a 60s-era car B-) I always preferred the angled, tapered struts of the films to the old ones of the classic TV show...
I'm really looking forward to this film. And with Majel Barrett-Roddenberry, one last time, as the voice of the computer... :x Gonna miss her.

The Superbowl TV spot is now up on the splash page to the official movie website (Star Trek Movie) and there are a few new bits in it.
Looks good overall, especially that bit with the Enterprise unloading its phasers. Definitely far more epic in scope than past Trek movies.
I'm not wild about the "rebel without a cause" scenes of young Kirk but I guess they're included so that we can see the character mature into the captain we all know over the course of the film. I have a feeling Karl Urban will make a great Dr. McCoy.

Just a heads up that a new trailer for Star Trek - this one supposedly focusing more on character than wall to wall action - will be showing in front of Watchmen when it premieres next week.
In the meantime, here's a new pic from the movie by way of totalfilm.com showing Kirk & Spock having a long distance conversation with bad guy Nero via the Enterprise viewscreen.
I always like to think Kirk joined starfleet on a whim and found something he excelled at. Natural leadership and calm under fire. Why do most of todays reboots have to be about finding your inner destiny and righteous path in life? Can't we just have a fun film for once? If anyone should be internally debating career choices it should be Spock who opposed Sarek to do it.
I posted a message about this on one of the Trek boards I sometimes frequent. While I liked the trailer overall (it has a sweeping, epic scope that has been lacking from all other Trek movies with the exception of ST:TMP) I didn't care for Pine's "Rebel Without A Cause" interpretation of young Kirk. I can hazard a guess at why they did that (trying to appeal to a younger audience, introducing conflict, making the character relatable to today's disaffected youth, etc.) but that angle has been done so often in so many movies that it has itself become cliche. Hopefully, it will be a small part of his character arc in the movie.
I saw the trailer before Watchmen last night, and I got a kick out of seeing Stephen Collins. In case anyone has forgotten, he played Will Decker in the first Star Trek movie; Decker is the son of Kirk's old superior who appeared in an episode of ST:TOS (played by William Windom), and now Collins is apparently playing a kind of mentor to young Kirk. It's the Circle of Life!
Actually HB, that was Bruce Greenwood of National Treasure and I Robot fame playing Captain Christopher Pike. But now that you mention it, you're right in that he does bear quite a resemblance to Stephen Collins.
There was a special screening of the new Star Trek movie in Texas last night (hosted by, among others, Leonard Nimoy no less) and there are several positive and largely spoiler-free reviews peppering Harry Knowles' Aint It Cool News website.

Plans to release Star Trek in Australia first causes furore
THE stars of the latest Star Trek film have arrived in Australia amid a furore over plans to launch the movie here before the rest of the world.
Some 1600 guests will take their seats in the Opera House to catch a glimpse of stars Eric Bana, Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto.
Quinto, who plays Spock, and Pine, who takes the role of Captain Kirk, hit the footpaths for a run just hours after arriving from Los Angeles yesterday.
They'll be joined at the showing by Bana, who is barely recognisable as the villain Nero in the $218.5 million film which chronicles the early days of the USS Enterprise.
Insiders have suggested it is Bana who was instrumental in bringing the premiere to Sydney.

That's the big question right there: will enough non-Trek fans give it a chance? It remains to be seen if the movie has piqued the curiosity of the general public, although there has been no lack of effort on that front lately: there was a recent promo for the movie that focused on a bar fight, a car speeding down a dusty highway and Kirk sexing it up with an Orion slave girl, all to a heavy metal soundtrack. It looked more like a promo for Fast and Furious than Star Trek. Now, this spot aired during one of those ultimate fighting shows so it was clearly aimed at a very different demographic that normally wouldn't waste a glance at anything with the words Star Trek attached to it. I'm sure all those scenes were taken out of any sort of reasonable context but it was jarring to me to see Trek peddled like that to that demographic.
Still, I've tried to stay relatively spoiler free on this one and I'm very curious to see the movie myself. There are some things I've seen that I'm not wild about but again, there's no context yet so I'm waiting to see how the movie as a whole plays. It can't be any worse than the last few entries or TV shows and I'm sure it'll be a great action film. It just remains to be seen if it will still feel like Star Trek.

I'm still a little on the fence about this new movie. From reading between the lines some things happen in the film which, as a long-time fan, I'm not wild about. But, much like Bond, I guess the franchise has to evolve if it wants to attract new fans even at the cost of potentially alienating old timers like me.

The Enterprise resembles the Picard version more than the classic one. A little more sleek than I first thought.
