Hello just saw the movie. Wish I would have went to seen it earlier but oh well still very much enjoyed it. I came looking to see what he did for a workout because i was wondering how he got such a bod. coming upon this and reading all the posts, I read this one and i wondered.
"The decline press ups work the triceps and chest, and the pull ups work biceps and chest and the shoulder press works the biceps."
The person who said that I don't know if they have any idea what they are taking about and just tried to bull**** it or either they don't know how to or never have lifted weights in there life.
First of all decline push-ups will work your chest first of all and secondary muscles the triceps and shoulders (mainly front deltoids).
A pull-up will work your BACK not chest, your back and with a secondary muscle your biceps.
Thirdly the shoulder press does not work your biceps it works your shoulders, with secondary muscle the tricep being worked. The reason why there is no arms in there probably is because unless you want well defined arms and do isolation exercises doing those exercises will use your arms (biceps and triceps) almost as much as doing curls for your biceps and pulldowns for your triceps.
So i am finished here i say congradulations on getting 1 out of 3 exercises correct for what body part is actually used.
You are right.
The decline bench press, however, will work the lower part of your chest, while the incline will work the upper part of the chest. I am sure that DC did all of the chest exercises.
Regarding the pull ups, I don't know who said that it works out your chest, but the main part of the pull ups is to work out your back muscles, like you said.
Yeah I wasn't going into specifics but i highly doubt if those were the only things he did. It just doesn't seem enough even though he does cover most of the major muscle groups. If anyone has anything else that he might have done for a workout instead i'd like to see it. I don't live in the UK so don't get all those british tabliods and magazine that might have it in it.
I keep reading on other websites that people are claiming he spent 6 hours a day in the gym weight lifting, and then i read that people are asking if he is taking steriods. I really don't think that for a movie role he's going to take steriods to get that big considering he's really not that big or ripped.
I read in an article on the internet for him about his working out that he was happy since he was able to bench press his own weight now...where is that in the workout???
I think Craig did what any other guy that wants to get in shape did. There is no secret to it and I think people in general should stop fussing. I myself used to want to know the 'secrets' and I came to the realization that working out is working out. Some eat right, some don't. Some have trainers, some don't. Some run and do cardio enough to shed the extra far for the 'rippness' to show, some don't. It also depends on the body you have.
If someone said that Craig was at the gym for 6 hours a day that is nonsense. Every workout I have ever read doesn't say anything other than to stay at the gym for about 1hr to 1 1/2 hr. That's it.
Yes he probably took supplements but steroids? I doubt it. He would show signs of steroids. Read up on steroids. However, he may have but just did one cycle.
I sensierly doubt he took steroids, if he did you'd be able see it, his muscles would be more diefined and he'd have the super hero six pack ines. he's ripped but he's not that ripped.
I think it was most likely a mixture of working out and eating right, theres nothing wonderous about it really. but I am waiting for Highhopes to scan GQ.

I have the workout by his personal trainer with pictures and text from GQ-uk, I just have to scan it and put up a link. I forgot last weekend, but I promise I will before Sunday.
Craig did not take steroids. Nor did he work out 6 hours a day (I'm a gym devotee myself and I promise you that 6 hours a day would be serious overtraining and counterproductive).
The workout was designed by a former Royal Marine. He did not use weights except (if I recall) for one exercise. It was mostly calesthenics using his own weight as resistance. The workout was a high-intensity 45 minutes long, plus cardio, six days a week. He also was very careful with his diet, which lowered his bodyfat percentage significantly enough to allow the muscle, especially the abs, to show through. He did put on about 20 pounds of muscle, but his body mass index was already pretty low, which makes it easier to put on muscle.

I am kind of a gym person also, I am there as much as I can, and well i guess if he had nothing else to do in a day behind yoga and his workout, plus stretching i could see maybe 3 hours in the gym a day but i mean yoga and stretching are also not lifting weights. If he has a specially designed meal plan for him in a month or two anybody could look like that. If he was taking steriods i'm pretty sure they would of had a harder workout regimen for him to do then his own body weight. I've seen will smith gain the muscle for the movie Ali. So I guess what it comes down too is that when your a star, you can do everything perfectly because you have the man power helping you.
so, Craig worked out for "apparantly" 45 minutes a day, 5 days a week and that would be for what? 3-4 months?
That I don't have an answer to. I don't remember what the article said, or if it mentioned it. But I think I read where Craig said he got started about 3 months before the shooting.
I tried to scan in the two workout pages last night, but I'm having a problem with my scanner. I hope to have it resolved this weekend.

hopefully you will have it fixed so that we can all see it.
About Craig and his resistance training....I am pretty sure he lifted weights and not only used his own weight for exercising.

I could see it. My son is in the Marines and I was blown away at how good he looked when he got out of boot camp. They don't use weights and he looked really good. But they bust your ass. It's not do a set, chat up the chicks, do another set, talk about last weekend's football game, etc .... I'm sure the Royal Marines is the same deal.
I think one of the keys is the intensity of the workout. It's 45 minutes without so much as a breather, from what I understand. One of these days I'm going to try it myself; it may be a lot tougher than it sounds.
I seem to recall he used a half-ball (not sure what this device is officially called)to do his pushups on, which meant he was also working a lot of different muscle groups to keep his balance. And there is one exercise where he did use weights, but I forget which. It's pretty interesting.
One problem is I noticed the pictures demonstrating the exercises are done in an artsy-smartsy manner and are rather dark. I'm not sure how they'll scan, but I'll do my best.
Sorry guys -- I won't be able to post GQ's workout article after all.
I'm able to scan the GQ piece, but I can't get it hosted anywhere (and they are copyrighted, too). The file is too big, and if I lower the quality and make it smaller, you can't read it. If anyone is really interested, I could e-mail it to them if they PM me with their address.
That Rod Collins site mentioned above has some of the exercises from the article, by the way.

Highhopes, you're probably starting to regret your generous offer, but if you get a chance, please email a copy to amoradox@comcast.net.
I would appreciate it very much. Believe me, I could use the workout!
