Well before I emailed this pic to my inker I made a few changes to my pencils like getting rid of Shellhead's angry eye slits, tweaking the helmet and whatnot. I got it back this evening from my inker buddy so now I'll try and get it colored next. :)

I plan on framing these side by side once I get it maybe...

I'd really like Romita Jr.to approve of it. ;)

One of my students that I've taught going on four years now, had always asked when I would post some of her work so I promised her last Saturday that I would.

She just turned 14 last week.

    worthsbabe.jpg

She was so caught up in the awesomeness of TDK before class, that she drew this in a couple of minutes too. :D

    emobats.jpg

She hopes that you like them. Her mom's a pretty good artist too...

Nice stuff all around from everyone. Pen is already better than I ever could hope to be and I really like your student's Batman silhouette.

I must confess though, I preferred the penciled version of your IM sketch with the "angry eyes" which is on page 35 of this thread better than this corrected version. He looked more "determined" in that one.

    thanks, guys ^^!

I'm glad you like my stuff. It takes me ages to draw anything, 'cause I have to sit and stare at a reference picture for hours and hours before I actually put pencil to paper...so, if anybody ever wants something from me, they have to provide a reference pic for me :p

and as for your student's work, I'm astounded at the awesome of the Bats pic. 'tis amazing ^^

    cheers, folks ^^

Thank you, people; I will be sure to let her know that you like it if she doesn't wander to the site on her own. She's been on the Batman kick lately and has tossed Spider-Man aside to embrace the mantle of The Bat- oh, Dan...stop that! Now you can't slit your wrists with a butterknife..... :D

My friend, I just can't seem to get it right for you, can I? Constipated Angry Cap, Drug-Induced Cap, Docile Hulk...I'm just no good! :)) :))

That's great that you preferred the first pencils though; that's better than nothing for me. Look at it this way, this won't be the last Iron Man that I'll sketch I'm positive of that. I'll make sure to put the stern back in his demeanor for you, man.

It was just sitting at my draft table and I stared and stared and thought that he looked evil so I tweaked it. :))

    Thanks for the comps. ;)

Oh come on now, we both know that isn't true. Those GL's you made for me hang proudly on my wall watching my back. And if you go back a few pages in this thread you'll see that I had nothing but praise for the original version of that IM sketch. The slanted eyes really did look more Marvel to me.

If I may humbly offer a constructive observation, sometimes in striving to get something perfect you end up lessening it. As Arthur C. Clarke once said, no work of art is ever finished, it is only abandoned. ;)

Please don't take it the wrong way, buddy. I was just messing with you. Despite you making a good point, unfortunately alot of our kind have these sort of tics if we look at it long enough. There have been times that I drew a very good picture, that others like, only to rip it to shreds. I found out from other artists long ago that I wasn't the only one who did that. :))

Then there are others, who take the comps from others and rest on their laurels. I've never felt comfortable with doing that. I can be like Monk sometimes on some compositions. It just depends.

Editors who look at portfolios endlessly at cons don't help either I'm afraid... at least ones I've encountered.

There'll be more Iron Man sketches though with more up to date armor even if I'm not a fan of some of those Manga-ish designs.

I was compelled to draw pupils in those slits like days past but didn't since I'm having the glow colored in.

So...you got the other GL framed have you? Can't wait to see it. :)

I've been at home recovering from a serious flu bug over the last few days and had a little insomnia last night so I did a little of my own comic and then worked on more of a Batman script that was given to me. This top half is what I just finished before turning in this morning. I'll put up the complete page later tonight.

    sampletop.jpg

Trying to have my comic ready and a stronger portfolio before I head to the New York Convention next March. Hopefully I'll be able to hit Boston & Philly too. DC or Bust. ;)

Sorry to hear you were under the weather. Get well fast. And remember, when you make it up to Boston we have a standing appointment for lunch at the very least. Joe Tecce's if you're feeling Italian, The Fours if you're in a sporting frame of mind. I'll also bring the camera to record the momentous event.

Thanks, guys. Tell Spec he needs to be my muscle so wear "the jacket". :))

Boston's a strong sports town so I heard from my inker that Wizard World wasn't that successful there the last time (experiment?) but there are other more fanboy events that come there on an annual basis.

Pen, I want to go out the west like Arizona & Seattle but I'm not aware right now if Colorado has any yearly events. ?:)

One of my kids in class is from there and he's never heard of any to his knowledge. I'll research it though.

For those interested, here's another non-spoiler page from my book. There are so many more I could post for you guys but I'd be tipping my hand. I thought that my inker did a fine job with this last batch.

    SHYA.jpg

Another AJB cameo will be shown soon enough for this. ;)

Here's another Batman page that I had fun drawing to loosen up some.

    batman_tryout_3.jpg

Here is a pencilled pinup that was part of a tryout script I did to vie for a decent paying job on a prequeled comic book movie adaptation. Come to find out that they wanted a more cartoonish/simpler look for this "serial killer" book and this companywhich will remain unnamed) started having money problems.
I was told that they went with a much cheaper in-house guy and to my knowledge, I still don't think that it has come to fruition after the imperative three week window stressed to us if chosen.

Did another small fanboy con where I had to make a list of sketches people wanted. It was a busy day so I already had a few prepared just in case.

All of the pics went but this one. What's the deal with everyone hating on The Penguin like Nightshooter? My own son hates Cobblepot too. :))

    penguinpic.jpg

I always enjoy drawing him but he's a hard pic to move at cons most times. Probably wouldn't be if I were Alex Ross. :(

Very very nice Penguin there Rogue.

As for his lack of popularity, I think the younger bat fanboys just don't feel that Penguin, especially as he was envisioned by Bob Kane, fits well with the rest of Batman's rogues gallery. He's not physically imposing, horribly disfigured, or has some disturbing modus operandi. He's a short, pudgy more cerebral villain and the younger crowd probably just can't identify with him. That's my theory, anyway.

Thanks, Tony. I have to agree with you; Penguin just takes a backseat to other more colorful villians. I don't agree but it has to be true.

One guy at the convention loved the picture and told me he was going to an ATM to come back and buy it but I think that he called Nightshooter first for advice. Case in point. :))

And yes, Night, Burgess was the man. B-)

Come on - give me one good book where Penguin is the most interesting villain. He's just not that interesting- what is so deadly about him? Umbrellas? Give me a break.

(I do like the drawing, though)

Although, those massive umbrellas that he flew around on in 1960's Batman - those were AWESOME.

Something I did over the weekend while teaching one of my classes...

I really, really never liked Jason Todd. I recall calling in my vote about ten times to see the little $#*% killed off back in the day. Of course my class had no idea who that was; y'know...the whole age difference thing. :#
