I wish I did have scans but not only did I not have a scanner, but the pictures were huge. They were done in charcoal and again, I listened to their tunes to get me in the mood courtesy of my client.

As much as I enjoy your superhero work, I think your portrait work with charcoals is really amazing. Absolutely awesome stuff.
I have some jazz (Herbie Mann, Parker and other mellow tracks) but I only played it when I was single and I brought dates home? :v Y'know...

    Oh, behave!!!
As for the Davis pic, it was done in full early 60s mode, not E.T. mode.

Gotcha, classic Miles. Still there was something to be said for those wild outfits he wore in the 70's and 80's.
I'll contact him and see if he'll take snapshots of them; they're still hanging proudly on his wall.

Spectre and I would love to see them.
Not an expert but I always thought that Kenny G. was too commercialized.

They don't call Kenny G the Antichrist of Jazz for nothing. Did you ever read Pat Metheny's scathing condemnation when Mr. G overdubbed himself over a Louis Armstrong song? It's pretty hilarious (but also extremely heartfelt).

    Keep 'em coming Rogue.

I remember taking my wife to a Kenny G. concert awhile back, because she likes him, and coming out of the concert feeling so ripped off.

I mean he's long MADE it but there was no hunger in his blow, y'know? He was playing on name only IMO.

Let me ask you, Tony...I take it that Jazz is a humongous deal in Italy? My older sister vacationed over there (Tuscany & Rome) and she said that jazz was playing at nearly every club she went into. Said that they had a 60s feel to the ambience(sp?).

I've gotta get over there. B-)

For my money, the greatest saxophone player ever is the late Stan Getz. I had the pleasure of seeing him perform in person several times and even into his 60's he still had incredible passion and an amazing command of the instument; his lyrical improvisations were just jaw dropping. I actually wept when he died.

Yup, it is H-U-G-E over there and jazz musicians are appreciated much more than they are on our shores. I find that very sad since America really was the birthplace of jazz. Metheny is particularly popular there and has said on more than one occasion that he could be very happy living there someday. Maybe I should sell him my house. :))

I haven't been back there since I was eight years old; I have family there and we own some property but I've never exploited it. Maybe someday...

I thought I'd catch a break on a commission and some pages that I'm working on to do a quick sketch. Sometimes you have to back away from a project just to collect yourself and not mess up what you're doing.

Had another Batman hankering so I did this up. Only the second or third time ever that I've drawn The Riddler. Although stylish, thanks to Frank Gorshin, he was never that desirable a character to me thanks to Superfriends and Jim Carrey...until the HUSH story arc. Enjoy:

You'd think that Gorshin would be too campy, but he wasn't. Adam West's Batman was too campy to be put in a realistic situation, btu Gorshin would've fit in anywhere.

Love the drawing, and I completely agree that Hush was awesome.

Thanks, guys. I'll have this at Wizard World next month in case passer-bys are interested in it.

I've got to start drawing more Marvel created characters... :D

No you don't. Everybody knows DC is where the really good characters live. :v

Although, I would love to see you take a stab at Iron Man. Would you go minimalist or for more of a War Machine look?

I sort of agree. I've been pro-DC since I was a kid. I just enjoyed their comics more.

What honestly got me into Iron Man in the first place was the then up and coming John Romita Jr. He had a fire to his style then that nearly rivaled his dad's and the way he approached IM was perfect for the latter part of the 70s... Note: I did say "NEARLY"; SR. was just too bada**. B-)

I got back to reading IM only once more when artist Keron Grant drew him back in 2000-01. Very detailed but unusual style. After he left the book, I was no longer interested...

I'll try to come up with something but it'll probably be closer to the old school look yet still intricate.

Here's a Green Lantern that I commissioned Rogue to do for me a while back. My crummy digital camera does not do the image too much justice. It now hangs proudly in my home, watching my back. Click on either image for a larger version.

That looks beautiful, Tony. Whomever matted that did a great job of goosin' up that picture. I'm flattered that you'd put that on your wall, man. {[]

Well at least I have a picture in New England even if I haven't made it there yet ;) .

Thanks Rogue, glad you're pleased. As I said, my camera doesn't do it justice. It's a dark green double matte with a black metal frame. I may rearrange stuff a bit to have all my Lanterns together. But rest assured it is now permanently part of the family.

I've already gotten a request for next Saturday at Wizard World to sketch out an Alan Scott GL. Outside of the cool cape he has a stupid get-up IMO.

These Lantern fans are busting out of the woodwork. :))

    Beware Our Power ... :v

I have an Alan Scott piece that was ostensibly drawn and colored by Martin Nodell himself; I bought it at a comics shop from a dealer I trusted years ago so I'm pretty sure its legit. But I never framed it because, as you say, it's a pretty goofy outfit when you really look at it.

When he became Sentinel, DC introduced some subtle changes (primarily with the boots) that made it much less dorky.

Well here's a pic I've been working on lately; I was inspired by Tony DP & Nightshooter after they just drafted or assumed I'd play The Thing on Xbox Live while they portrayed the more glamourous superheroes. :))

I started on this last weekend and I'm testing a variety of mediums on it at the moment. I should finish up on it soon or at least before this weekend's convention. I hope that you enjoy this one; it was fun doing it. ;)

Please keep in mind that I haven't refined it yet much less finished it.

    That's great! It's not a self-portrait is it? :o :D

(Sorry, couldn't resist. :)) Seriously, it is really good.)
