Bond 22 is Risico?

Spotted this over at Superherohype:

"Hi
Well I was able to talk to my friends again. A few of them told me that hot word at the going around Pinewood when they left the production earlier in the month, is that the working title for Bond 22 is 'Risico' I knew little of this title so I googled it and found it had a Fleming root behind it.
I would like to stress this news isn't first hand un like the pre title thing earlier, this is just word of mouth spreading around the studio. So make of it what you will. The likelyhood I'll get any more news is very slim as these guys are now no way involved in the production of Cr anymore."

Maybe his friend spelled it for him? ;)

This is just getting sillier, isn't it...was Craig wearing a fish?

If Bond 22 is Risico, will we forum members refer to it as R.

If it was me, I wouldn't use Risico, it means nothing to folks other than us Bond geeks.

Well if this is true, i'm glad that they're starting to stick with Flemming's ideas etc. instead of coming up with their own new stuff.

Of course, many plot elements of Fleming's 'Risico' short story have already been co-opted by Eon in FYEO...perhaps they will use FYEO's story as part of 'R' :s

I'm all for using whatever Fleming elements and titles (including chapter titles!) remain untapped, but I agree with Barry that this is one of the more nondescript ones. Compared to 'Risico,' 'The Hildebrand Rarity' really cries out death-defying adventure, doesn't it? :))

Perhaps 'Risico' becomes the villain's name...?

I always liked "Risico" as a title, sounds like a fancy way to say "risk." I got it as a 12 year old, maybe the general public can catch on as well? ;) I know I know, don't hold my breath...

    Quite right. :s

I don't really mind it, either---a Fleming title is a Fleming title. Sure, it's no 'Die Another Day,' but real genius (like lightning) almost never strikes twice :p

Id like this as a title, and so what if the story's been used before. The story of AVTAK had been done before it was made. And need we talk about the plot of TND?

Actually, if you divorce it from the movie, "Die Another Day" was a good title and very Fleming-esque. He loved to play on the words of known expressions and this one played on the 'live to fight another day' cliche - which even connected to the plot. But "Tomorrow Never Dies" was just plain stupid, made no sense at all. The original title with the word "Lies" should have been kept. And "Licence To Kill" should have been "Licence Revoked". I think us dumb Yanks would have been able to figure it out eventually. 8-)

No more titles with "kill" or "die" in them, it has become very repetitious and boring.

Actually, I think Licence to Kill was a great title and really captured the spirit of Bond and his adventure. He is out to kill, and he is warranted in doing this by Sanchez's killing Della and maiming of Leiter.

Personally, I would like to Bond 22 be the Moonraker novel story with the title "Dead Reckoning." (A chapter title from the novel)

'The Hildebrand Rarity'.... sounds a bit like a Bourne film, doesn't it? Imagine the fireworks!

But yeah; never been a big fan of the 'Risico' title meself..

If we're talking about titles (and not the works themselves) then one title which I think would be excellent would be The Property of A Lady.

Speaking of which, do you think that Quantum of Solace will ever be used? ;)

"Risico" always sounded great to me, hope they eventually use it. Very Flemingesque. I´d rather have that title than another with Die, death, live, tomorrow, today, diamonds or gold.

I've always thought that Risico was a great, Bondian title, and I've surprised that the filmmakers have thus far passed it over. To me it just screams "villain's surname".

My main question would be since the source material from the title has already been used, would a movie titled Risico be that in name only, a la TSWLM?
  • sampile2005sampile2005 Posts: 56MI6 Agent
Personally, I don't think Risico would be a good Bond film as it was never a proper Fleming Bond novel - saying that, neither was The Living Daylights or Octopussy - but, never the less, I think they should adopt novels that have already been made i.e. Zero Minus Ten or Scorpius etc. They should be turned into films IMO.

I would not get too excited over this. The guy who posted this and other news like how Cambell will return for Bond 22 and that the PTS for 22 had been filmedwas dying for a copy of the script claiming he was the biggest Bond fan in the world when he first joined. While I would love to belive this guy I would recomend talikng anything he says with a big grain of salt. His report on the Bond 22 PTS could have been made by anyone who has read the script.

Rumour or not, I'd much rather it be Risico than an arbitrarily-chosen imitation of Fleming's style.

How about this, for all the American soap opera fans: "One Life to Give" :))

A touch of Nathan Hale (American Revolutionary War spy) there, in the spirit of the recently-past July 4th ... :007)

"One Life to Give"? Sounds a little too much like a crappy soap opera that was on when I was a kid, "One Life to Live."

I think that the terms of life and death in the literal sense need a break from the movie titles for a while.

Yeah. It actually was a joke. ;) B-) I do kind of like it, however...

A quick sidebar from the "For What's It's Worth (which isn't much!)" file:

CBn is reporting that "Daniel Craig Signs for Second Film" (?): http://www.commanderbond.net/quicknews/index.php?action=item&item=32019

Thank you, News Of The World. I thought poor Danny signed a three-picture deal last year...?

I suspect their next bit of breaking news will be: "This just in: The world is, in fact, not flat! Insiders reveal that recently-discovered photos from outer space reveal that Earth has 'a definite spherical shape.'" :(|)

In fairness, neither does Casino Royale. If the public gave a monkeys about Fleming's association with Bond, they would have stopped watching the films somewhere around YOLT; the producers however have continued to return to his well for inspiration for decades. GoldenEye is just a title for the great unwashed, but for Bond fans, it's a nice tribute to Fleming.

I'm hoping this is true, not only because I think it's a good title, but also because I would love Casino Royale to finish, and the words, James Bond will return in Risico to fill the screen, instead of this Bond 22 nonsense.

Riso doesn't call Bond to me nearly as much as Property of a Lady or Hilderbrand Rarity...I think many people would no it was a Bond trailer if the screen flashed Property of a Lady...but thats just IMO...

So how did us Bond geeks find out what it means?
We had to read the story. The first words of the story are uttered by Kristatos: "In this pizniss is much Risico." Moviegoers could learn the meaning in much the same way.

I like the title. It sounds exotic even if you don't know what it means. The fact that it means "risk" makes it seem even more Bondian to me. However, as has been noted, that plot was already pretty muched absorbed into FYEO.

"Property of a Lady" never seemed like a good title to me, but the more I think about it, the more I like it. Of course, that plot (if you can call it that... it wasn't much of a story) was
used in Octopussy. But the title could be used, and the Lady's property could be something other than a Faberge egg: a nuclear device, a man, an island, or whatever.

I'm not sure I like the idea of "The Hildebrand Rarity" as a movie title, either. Milt Krest is playing his golden harp anyway, thanks to Sanchez in LTK.

I agree there should be no more book or movie titles that try to sound like a combination of LALD and YOLT.

No more "Live" and no more "Die."

"You Only Live to Die Another Day"... ugh!

Johnny you make a good point. If EON was able to explain the term Risico, as Flemng did in the story, it might work.

I can just hear it now. Phil Collins does the theme song.

    "Ris-ris-Risico!"

    No wait! Olivia Newton John!

"Let's get Risico. Risico. I wanna get Risico-oo!"

It's Italian for "risk", I believe- the first line of the story has Kristatos using the word.

I remember reading something from Barbara Broccoli that the next one is going to be an original story not based on any Fleming works. If I find the article I will post.

i think risico is a great title for bond 22 it could be the villians name i.e vespers algerian boy friend and he could no2 in the new spectre like organisation kinda like emilio largo and the id of the no1 could come out in bond 23 and the writers could use unused titbits from the fleming novels ie the garden of death from yolt bond having his little finger broke from lald.keep all 3 of craigs bond whoimho is james bond very fleming and make them atrioligy.risico could also be the codeword for bonds assignment again like thunderball.
