Sounds like the rationalizations of a Batman fanboy terrified that his favorite movie may not come out on top after all. :))

Yeah, that last scene did look a little CGI; but it's still very cool looking and there's still three months to go before the movie premieres; I'm sure they'll button that stuff up.

My son said that you might respond like that. :))

Seriously I was excited to see it but the look of that ending sort of left me curious as to if all of the action would turn out like that, especially compared to the awesome chase scene with the jets and the sonic boom ending of the other one...

I captured this image from the TV spot. CGI? Maybe. But for my money this is what a superhero should look like.

C'mon, man. :)) Why the Batman punch? :))

Seriously though, the effects should be more polished by the time this comes out I hope. They were probably trying to make their spot and this was all that they had...

Even the fanboys here at work complained about that little bit.

Sort of Iron Man related, since he has a cameo, isn't it getting kind of close in the game and still no Incredible Hulk teaser? That's a worry... ?:)

Oh, I dunno, maybe ... because his costume in TDK sucks!!??? :))

Sorry Rogue but you yourself have lamented on more than one occasion that Nolan's visual style and choice of costume design and makeup leaves a lot to be desired.

Same goes for the new Punisher movie. Both are well into production but definitely flying under the radar when it comes to news. In the case of Hulk, they have Ed Norton so I think we will be hearing more before too long. In the case of Punisher, I'm really not as sure; given the subject matter and the lack of immediately recognizable names in the cast, one wonders if the studio has sufficient faith in the movie to promote it properly or if they decide to pull a Dolph Lundgren and sent it straight to video. I hope that doesn't happen but I can't get Thomas Jane's sudden departure and his 180 degree turnaround on the production out of my mind.

I think what this new Punisher needs is a healthy dose of chain mail and ultra cool dialog ala Commando :))

Not to steal thunder on Shellhead's thread but c'mon now, Spec...we both have to agree that Commando should remain "untouchable". :))

As for the Jane conviction, you mean compared to the awesome Dolpher, right? :v Stevenson may have us both fans of his once this comes out.

I'll admit that a trailer isn't quite warranted for Punisher since September's a way's off; I'll expect a teaser by spring for sure so I'm not too concerned with it...
But The Hulk is supposed to come out on the steam of Iron Man's cinematic debut and all seems mum on the project lately. Not even a Super Bowl spot. That makes me a little nervous...

Spec can't come to the computer right now. He's too busy celebrating Italy's Euro 2008 friendly win. He should come down in a day or three. :))

I'm a little worried about Hulk; he seems to be becoming the read-headed stepdaughter of the summer movie season. I wouldn't be surprised if the studio decided to hold the movie back and release it during the holiday season.

I'm even more concerned about Punisher; I can't get over this nagging feeling that the studio will just can a theatrical release and go straight to video. Can't put a finger on any one reason - maybe it's the cast of relative unknowns, the director, or the dark and somewhat convoluted plot - but that's the vibe I keep getting. Hope I'm wrong.

BTW, speaking of Thomas Jane, now that he's out of the Punisher picture, don't you think he'd make a pretty good Hal Jordan?

Rogue, Commando should be required viewing at any film school. It is the template by which all future action films must follow.

As for the new Punisher, I must agree with my brother. I don't think it will see the light of day on the big screen but it may eventually make a companion video to the Dolphster's opus :))

There's a pretty extensive article on John Favreau at Wondercon speaking about Iron Man, including descriptions of a new trailer premiering in front of 10,000 BC, a TV spot during Lots and other tidbits.

Of particular interest: And then the tank shot from the Super Bowl commercial is back, but it looks so incredibly much better. It doesn’t look like a PS2 video game anymore. Incredibly badass, ending with the Sabbath song once more.

Are we happy now, Rogue? :v :))

That really is good news to hear, Tony. I was hoping that they had better sense than to just leave those graphics as they were presented; I figured the SB spot was a rush job.

I really hope that Downey plays 70s-80s Stark in this and not the current anal-retentive Marvel has so proudly given us... I swear I hate him in those books now. :#

I don't read much in the way of comics these days other than the occasional Green Lantern, Batman or Superman book; from the few peeks I've taken, Marvel's writing has really gone in the toilet, at least for the characters I used to like as a kid.

Still, I wouldn't worry too much about the movie. From what I've seen and read, I doubt Downey's interpretation will have much in common with the character as he is currently portrayed in the comics. Check out that link above as it has some descriptions of the a couple of situations he gets into. One exchange between Stark and Stane leads me to think Downey's Stark will be more noble. There's also several mentions of a "Jarvis".

Now that is a superhero trailer! I love it! Very Marvel.

However, Paltrow just isn't attractive to me as Pepper Potts. She looks rather dull in everything she's in. She's not ugly...just meh... 8-)

This is not current day Tony Stark and that's a good thing. Thanks for the link, Tony. {[]

Trailer does look really good and I love all the little touches with the armor - the way the face plate comes down and the way it's literally bolted to Stark's body piece by piece. The film has a very cool, high tech look that really resonates with my sensibilities. The revised scene with IM taking out tank also looks way better than the one in the TV spot.

The trailer also gives us some hints into Stark's development - primo jerk at the beginning, serious concerned man later. His "I'm not a superhero" speech leads me to think Rhodey will be wearing the suit for a scene or two to throw the media off the scent (that's just a guess, not a spoiler).

As to Gwenyth Paltrow, I was never a fan of any of her movies, but I think she looks fine here - really cute with that red hair. :x

So tell me Rogue, did the Marvel twins wet themselves over this one? :v

Let me put it this way, Tony...had they seen this trailer during a very private moment at a donor bank somewhere, some unfortunate couple, unable to concieve would have benefitted greatly by those two guys' contributions. :D

    They loved it.

They did think, surprisingly to me, that The Dark Knight's second trailer from December was more moving & addictive to watch than IM's first teaser but now all is forgiven with this new one and their faith in the Marvel Machine is stronger than ever.
My son felt the same way about TDK but I'm sure in his computer class today he'll stumble across this and fall in line with the other Acolytes... which means another Marvel/DC debate at the dinner table this evening, my wife telling us to shut up and eat, etc... 8-)

As I type this, I'm looking over at one of the fanboys and he has an action figure of Loki perched on the edge of his desk as if it were a little person with the legs dangling over like it's fishing on a pier or something. I'm trying to contain my laughter in this quiet setting here. :))

    It's looking at him! :)) :)) :))

Here's the latest Iron Man poster courtesy of AICN. Personally, I miss the good old days of actual hand drawn artwork as opposed to these Photoshop type efforts, but it still looks pretty good to me.

My brother mentioned that the layout reminded him of some of those Jeff Marshall prints for the Bond movies. It is pretty typical of today's movie poster: show all the main characters and maybe an image from an action scene or two. As I said, it might have looked better if it were painted rather than just made up of still images.

Man, I agree with both of you; I mean whether one agrees or not, there really is no substitute. Unfortunately technology has taken the place of God-given talent. These poster designs nowadays make the whole process of the art look so synthetic and putting the power in anyone's hands. I know that my bias is showing...don't care. :p

Probably why I love my "painted" Octopussy movie poster so much...more "hands on"-forgive the pun. ;)

Unfortunately, this is the direction it's been heading for years now. Not all Photoshop is bad but there are many compositions out there that don't seem to have much effort put into them...

    .
That's what makes it so disappointing IMO. I think a much better poster would be one in which only Iron Man is shown, or alternatively, Iron Man is shown above all other characters. The poster makes it unclear to non-Iron Man fans (such as myself) just what the film is about. Terrence Howard, Jeff Bridges and Gwyneth Paltrow are fine actors (some more so than others) but there is only one reason I will be seeing the film, and that reason should be front and centre.

Oh come on Dan, I think you're being a bit unfair and nitpicky now and I could easily apply your complaints towards just about any movie poster for a major picture released in recent memory.

Pretty much all the IM posters until this point have shown the armor exclusively; this is really the first one where the other characters get some mention. Also, the armor is still prominently displayed here and is by far the biggest element on display. You also see a snippet of the Mk. I in action and planes chasing the Mk. III. You see the supporting characters. Compare this to movie posters for any of the other big releases in recent history and I think you'll see that it shows more of what's in the movie than most.

And don't forget, the poster is only one part of a movie's PR campaign. There's commercials, theatrical trailers, magazine ads, etc, etc, etc.
