    Iron Man Movie Update!
Source: the reel chris, Bauer00 June 25, 2007

Iron Man director Jon Favreau has announced the end of principal photography on his MySpace group, and indirectly confirmed rumors that Hilary Swank will have a cameo in the film:

Principal photography ended with a huge bang as we filmed the final scenes of Iron Man in Caesar's Palace. As many of you already know, gambling is a casino's top priority. A production can not interfere with their cash cow. As a result, movies must shoot during the dead hours, no matter if it's Swingers or Rain Man. We were given a window of midnight to one the next afternoon to do all of our work. Part of our strategy to prepare for these ungodly hours was to stay up as late as possible the night before and sleep as late as possible. I did half the plan. The wrong half. I stayed out until 7AM and then woke up four hours later. After motoring through the delerium of a sleepless shooting marathon, I am proud to report that we have handily completed our movie on time and on budget. What a great way to end.

I would also like to thank Ceasars for their hospitality, generosity, and Swank accomodations.

Meanwhile, a possible new promo site has gone up at StarkIronWorks.com.

Guess all there is now is to wait on the teaser... :)

I like it too. It almost looks like the mask is smiling; don't know if that's deliberate or not but I wonder what someone who is not familiar with the comics would think.

The ad campaign for this movie will need to work a bit harder than say Batman or Spiderman or even the Hulk. Iron Man is a relatively obscure character and the general public needs to be educated as to who he is and what he does.

The poster looks good, but I've always been a fan of the sleeker armor. This angular design (like the Batman outfit in The Dark Knight) just seem to convey a little lack of confidence on the part of the filmmakers - as if they have to make the heroes look tougher.

I miss the little square mouth - much more machine than man :(

The glowing android eyes are probably the way to go but in the Iron Man comics I have you often see Tony Stark's real eyes through the armour to add a human element. I don't mind the changes. The cleverest idea they had in the Spider-Man films was to make spidey's web-shooters a part of his biology rather than a Peter Parker invention. I think James Cameron came up with that idea in his original treatment in the early nineties.

I agree that this is THE classic look of Iron Man--maybe because it's how he looked in the '70s, when I was following the comics--but I think the old design looks a bit too much like another armored character:

I guess a bit of updating was in order, lest Iron Man find himself pursued by the TARDIS!

Between this new teaser poster, and the peek we've gotten at the Mk 1 armor, I think we're going to get perhaps as close to classic Iron Man, looks-wise, as could reasonably be expected...

I've got a very good feeling about this film.

Not to go OT, but I'm reading a great book examining the physics in comic books. The author is great at picking out what's plausible and what's not in a very humourous way. He picks up on the incredible inconsistency that Marvel created when giving Peter Parker the ability to design a such a revolutionary adhesive webbing and still sbe constantly strapped for cash! :))

    :)) :)) :)) I can't believe I used to think that was awesome. :)) :)) :))

I sympathize with darenhat on this as well but this rendition will be just fine. Although the 70s comics version of Iron Man always seemed to look more flexible as opposed to the current comics and now movie version we're about to get.

    Classic armor. B-)

Rogue's and Darenhat's pictures above show why the classic red and gold armor (which I love as well, BTW) wouldn't work well in a live action movie. In the comics, the artist could take small creative liberties with the mask, slanting the eye sockets and skewing the mouth hole to bring out different emotions. The same goes for other parts of the suit. You don't have that kind of flexibility with a 3 dimensional mask; so you really have to go with the scuplted, more hi-tech look if you want to be taken seriously.

Thanks for the link Rogue, but...ahem...I posted the MTV links on the previous page...and you had even posted a reply to my link. :o I wouldn't even bring this up except that you've been giving Willie Garvin a hard time lately. People in glass houses and all that. :v :))

Seriously though, since principal photography has now wrapped it hopefully won't be too long before we get some clips of the armor in action.

Oh, sorry ;% but outside of the principal interview on that site, I don't recall seeing this one on there.
This is the first I've seen of this link myself; a friend sent it in an email this morning. My bad...

If they've wrapped up initial shooting, that doesn't mean that other things won't be filmed right? I mean the Nick Fury/Jackson parts...since he was sort of a late addition.

No need to apologize, I'm just giving you a hard time (what can I say, it's a boring evening up here).

I'm sure they'll go back and do some pick-up shots after assembling a rough cut of the movie but the bulk of filming is done according to Favreau's myspace page. I think the Nick Fury thing is probably just a cameo and I'm sure it was/will be filmed in a day or two at most. Going forward, the bulk of the work will probably be creating all the FX for the film.

Well, I suppose it looks okay. But why can't they show picture of him flying, bootjets flaming and all? Are they afraid he'll look too much like the Rocketeer or something? I think the few promo images we seen or just a little too vague. In fact, a good pic would be showing Tony Stark sans helmet.

Non-comic fans may think this is some type of robot.

    *sneezes* Rip-off!

Some originality there for you. I agree with darenhat; maybe this is too vague and in a way I do understand the studio wants fans to be in some sort of suspense as to the final look of IM but...

I've seen this poster before. :v

I like the poster; but, like Rogue, as soon as I saw it the first thing that jumped into my head was Batman Begins. Oh well, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

But to echo what Darenhat says, I'd like to see some posters with actual people in addition to the armors. I know these are just teasers but the average moviegoer has probably never heard of Iron Man and, based on posters like this, might be a little confused as to what it's all about. A little more consumer education might be in order. Sorry if I sound like a broken record, but I really want this one to succeed.'

Oh, I wouldn't worry too much about that, Tony. If Favreau shows just an iota of doing Stark justice, this may be the next Spidey franchise. Only problem is he isn't even a cult director much less a dominant one.

Tricky thing is, Iron Man cannot be handled light-heartedly or it will flop...okay with me it would. Tony Stark is as complex a character as Bruce Wayne. That's what messed Ghost Rider up IMO.

IRON MAN has got to be techno-serious for lack of a better word...

Other than the backgrounds (and the fact they're both for superhero films), I really don't find the posters to be similar. The BB poster evokes mystery and solemnity, while the image of Iron Man exudes POWER--face looking up into the heavens, light exploding from the crucial points. . .you get the sense that Iron Man is bursting out of the darkness, while Batman is PART of the darkness. As for how people unfamiliar with the comic book will react to this. . .hard to say, but I would imagine the reaction that Marvel is aiming for is, "Kewl!"

:)) OMG, H.B...you sound worse than my son; just had this arguement with him just five minutes ago. I swear you Marvel disciple guys... Well him at least :))

Like I told him, you perceive it as you wish but the backgrounds are the same. Altering the forefront doesn't seperate its similarities with the BB poster much, that much, H.B. we agree on.

If you want to bring body language into it, I can easily say that Batman is sort of "basking" in victory or the essence of his mythos and not brooding... Either way its spun, it's ripped.

This IRON MAN poster is much more effective and stands on its own....

To me, all of these posters look great...including the new Iron Man...

It's hard for me to find anything to worry about, as far as IM is concerned; the feeling is starting to creep in on me...this is going to be the right movie at the right time.

    I predict a big winner.

Great guns--I say something complimentary about the poster and I become a "Marvel disciple?" Sort of reminds me of the reaction of some people to those who wanted to give a certain actor a chance when he was picked for a certain role. What's next? Iron-Man-Poster-Not-Batman-Poster-dot-com?
