The Sting, Marvin Hamlisch and 007...

does anyone thinks, as well as I do, that a portion of the soundtrack of the Reford-newman 1973 classic film "the sting" resemblances actually a lot like the composer Marvin Hamlisch (who also scored the sting) take on the TSWLM theme that sounds right when Bond and Anya are seeing Stromberg's submarine base from the lotus sprit? I can't remember now the name of that theme, and I like it very much, but is really similar to one from the sting, when newman and redford spend their last night before the sting, echa one with their respective lover, wondering if the final hit will go good or awry...

The tune from "The Sting" is called "Treat Me Gently", adapted by Hamlisch from a Scott Joplin piano rag. The one from TSWLM is a rearrangement of a tune heard earlier in the film called "Ride To Atlantis". There is a slight similarity- call it a family resemblance?- between the two. Well spotted, Puccini!

I thought The Sting tune in question was called "Solace" and that it was a Hamlisch original, but agree on the similarity nonetheless. I had never thought about it, but can hear it in my head now...interesting find!

no matter what, Hamlisch did a great job on both scores, the two songs are really great as well as the films...

It was a good score. Took me some years to really get into the music, as I feel that John Barry IS Bond music. However, he could not do that one and they found Hamlisch. It is a really good score to a great Bond film.
