Question, if a hero's super-strength is based on the sun, or magic, or whatever, why are these guys super ripped? If I was powered by the sun like supes, I'd NEVER work out... I'd be the beer-bellied, 400lb man of tomorrow!
It's an honest question I'll give you that so maybe the perfect anatomy heroes are gifted with goes without saying...y'know-sort of an added bonus. You could also say that good genes play a part in it as well?
I've never thought that Superman worked out unless he was Kent playing up the facade.
I was semi-joking, but at the same time, perhaps you have a more interesting character if while being super-powered, he doesn't look super-powered... Imagine the Sentry character if he looked like Kevin Spacey, or Nathan Lane... yeah, he's somewhat still a supes rip-off, but he has an added dimention of looking ordinary while possesing immense power.
Remember the Molecule Man? Terrible story (secret wars I and II), but he was semi-compelling because aside from being one of the most powerful humans in the Marvel Universe at the time, that power was off-set by a very normal man... no physique, no athleticism, no iron will... refreshing change of pace, if written correctly.

Couldn't tell ya, TV rots the brain. And I'm of the belief that comics (for the most part) shouldn't be adapted to the screen (specificaly two hour movies). You lose so much in the translation...
example: I can see that you, RougeAgent, are a Frank Miller fan, much like myself. while I enjoyed Sin City, it was because it was completely faithfull to the story, but also paced like a film, resulting in what I consider the perfect comic adaptation.
However, I feel the exact opposite about 300, great read, visualy stunning, but if I ever pay money again to watch a two hour film that is almoost entirley in slo-motion, it will be too soon.
I feel if comics are to be adapted, the best medium is a pay-cable series, like what HBO is rumored to be doing with the Preacher. that's a story that you just can't cram into a two hour film.

The rumor right now is that it is in production for HBO as a series... which I had been pleading for ever since the Preacher movie rumors started (with James Mardsen as Custer)... which was as soon as the ink dried on the book. We'll just have to cross our fingers and hope for the best...
...I have also heard that one of the leading candidates to play Cassidy is none other than Robert Carlyle...
I love Miller's Batman but I LOVE Neal Adams' Batman much, much more.
I love Neil Adams Batman, but to me, Year One and The Dark Night Returns are Graphic Bibles... as is most of the stuff Miller writes, excluding The DK sequel... man that was a stinker.
But he is an example of how things should be... if you have an appendage that big, you should be ugly. It's only fair. and for the record, you will not find a nicer, more down to earth celebrity than Ron "Wadzilla" Jeremy... if porn stars cout as celebrities. Seriously, this guy is as cool as the other side of the pillow.

Depp and Banderas in Sin City 2?
Source: MTV March 26, 2007
MTV talked to Sin City 2 co-director Robert Rodriguez and star Rosario Dawson about the anticipated film, which will tell one story this time that may include Johnny Depp and Antonio Banderas. Here are several clips from the article:
"[Depp] was interested in doing the Jackie Boy character that Benicio [Del Toro] played [in the first one], but he was doing that movie 'Libertine' in Europe and it just kept getting pushed and delayed and went right through our shooting schedule," Rodriquez said of the actor he directed in "Once Upon a Time in Mexico." "But there is a better role for him in . I kept going, 'Gosh, Jackie Boy is a small part, he could be really good [as Wallace].' When he wasn't available, I thought maybe it was meant to be."
While no deal is in place for Depp at the moment, Rodriguez seemed coyly confident they would get the Oscar-nominated actor. The director was equally excited about potentially casting another of his old favorites, Antonio Banderas.
"When I showed him the first sample of the work, he went, 'Man I'll do anything in that. I'll be the hunchback. You have to bring me onboard, that looks amazing,' " Rodriguez recalled. "So Frank met him that time too and he said, 'I have got to find something for that guy. I've never met him before. He's amazing.' [So we're] looking at the cast of characters and [looking] to see where he can fit."

Steve Carr Waits In Marvel Queue for "Iron Fist" Production
Posted by Jen Yamato on Thursday, Mar. 29, 2007, 08:21 AM
Ftopel writes: "Steve Carr has been announced as the director for the Marvel Comics film "Iron Fist," but he is planning to make other projects first. It's not that he's not excited about it, it's just that Marvel is kind of busy.
"When I have the opportunity, we'll figure it out but there's a long line of comic books getting made into films and he's kind of like a smaller star of that galaxy," said Carr. "So I don't know when it's going to happen honestly."
Given his druthers, Carr knows how he'd go with "Iron Fist." "I'd love it to be kind of dark and almost kind of chop-socky kind of vibe, but it feels like there's a lot of comic book heroes they want to make first."
Marvel has started a trend of using comedy directors to make their superhero movies. Carr would follow Tim Story. "Yeah, Tim Story's a friend of mine. We came up and he's a video guy. He's a really great guy. I think it would be a really interesting opportunity and I'm hoping that it starts to happen a little bit quicker."
Perhaps "Fist" would get going if Jon Favreau's "Iron Man" wasn't stealing all its thunder. "See, I don't have enough Iron in my title. He has 'Iron Man,' I only have a fist. I should have Hot Iron Body. That would get me done first, or Steel Something.""

Shuler Donner Producing Metal Men!
Source: The Hollywood Reporter April 4, 2007
The Hollywood Reporter says that Warner Bros. Pictures has set up the comic book adaptation Metal Men with producer Lauren Shuler Donner ("X-Men" films, Constantine). Eric Champnella has been brought on board to write.
Based on a DC Comics hero created by Robert Kanigher and Ross Andru in 1962, the story revolves around a brilliant scientist, William Magnus, and his creations: six highly advanced robots who have powers associated with their respective metals -- gold, iron, lead, tin, mercury and platinum. Instead of having to be programmed, the Metal Men can think for themselves, which is both their genius and their biggest flaw.
The heroes made their first appearance in "Showcase," where they were created as filler but proved to be unexpectedly popular and received their own title. The heroes served as a dysfunctional family, and the stories balanced sentimentality, humor and action.
Jack Leslie of the Donners' Company also is producing.
Geoff Johns, who was an assistant to Richard Donner before becoming one of the comic world's renowned writers, helped develop the take and will executive produce.

Bjorlin on the Wonder Woman Rumors
Source: Moviehole April 6, 2007
Redline star Nadia Bjorlin talked to Moviehole about the rumors that she's in consideration for Wonder Woman:
I have to ask you.... about the "Wonder Woman" rumours. Have you talked with anyone about them? Is it something you'd be interested in?
It is definitely something I'm interested in. I own every Wonder Woman episode! Lynda Carter was an incredible Wonder Woman, and I'd be honored to try to fill those shoes....or tights, rather! [Laughs] As of now, there is no script or director in place, but when they find those, I hope I'm still in consideration.
Were you flattered to discover just how much support your fans are throwing your way in terms of "Wonder Woman"?
I was, and still am, extremely flattered over the support! I would hope that I could make all the supporters proud one day, but we'll see, I guess. I really do appreciate it though, and I want everyone to know that their opinions and support really do matter and help. I believe that people listen to what fans want, so don't think it's hopeless when you want to get your voice heard. Then let's just hope that they want to stick to the real Wonder Woman comic character instead of reinventing it. I guess I'll just have to wait and see.
No. Simply no. Honestly there are very few women who could play Wonder Woman.
Yeah, my Carter bias is a little leery of it all...
Then again, I'm not even sure we need a Wonder Woman movie. I'd prefer a JLA movie.
I think that WW could pull off a decent draw on her own but I'd prefer that the character not be so "frigid" as she's portrayed in the comics of late. That's a sure way to cool off your ticket receipts. 8-)
Still want a JLA movie though.

Is WW that exciting a character? Not really, no.
As for Carter, she stands as my number one reason why WW needs a costume change. Lynda Carter looked much better with the costume off that she did on(and I don't mean that in a lewd way).

Is WW more recognizable than the other two femmes that were on the big screen, Elektra & Catwoman? Yes. WW is probably the only lead female who could bring in the masses and has to be handled very delicately in order for it to be a success.
And I recall Wonder Woman already having had a costume change comic-wise...it didn't take.

Not that the Catwoman movie had anything to do with Catwoman, but the real Catwoman is a much more interesting character than WW, IMO.
As for Elektra, I thought that movie wasn't half bad. But I can't imagine a WW movie where... anything actually happens. I don't know, maybe I just hate WW. I happen to think she's a stupid, pointless character and only works when she's in the JLA. And even then she's only interesting when she's having a fling with Bats.

RogueAgentSpeeding in the Tumbler...Posts: 3,676MI6 Agent
There are so many problems with bringing WW to the silver screen, I just don't know where to begin.
First, as Rogue says, the character is way too cold in the current books and that translates to box office poison. The script needs to make her more three dimensional without reducing her to some vapid sterotype looking for a boyfriend (ie: Halle Berry's Catwoman).
Second, as Night says, I'm still not convinced WW is a legitimate box office draw. How many times has her book been revamped in an effort to spur sales? How many times has she been killed off, written out, or otherwise rebooted?
Also (and my apologies if I sound sexist here) but I don't think Hollywood knows how to make a comics film with a strong female lead. Every attempt so far has degenerated into chick flick / female empowerment cliche and the fact that there still isn't a script and schlockmeister Joel Silver is producing are two more bad signs. I also read that Silver is adamant about it not being a period piece - bad idea IMHO.
Finally, I've never been much of a Wonder Woman fan myself but I've always thought of her as being equal parts noble and innocent - a stranger in "Man's World" trying to figure us out and bring a message of peace from her homeland. Frankly, trashy would be starlets like Bjorlin do not possess those qualities. Whoever lands the role will need to have some serious acting chops, as well as the requisite good looks, to be able to pull it off convincingly and I can't think of anyone with the combination of looks and presence the role would demand. Cast a B-Movie bimbo or model turned actress or former playmate and she could end up looking ridiculous.
I guess that's why this project is in development hell and doesn't look to be anywhere near being ready to go into production.

Perhaps it's the past as to why I'm hoping this is a viable franchise , Tony. I know that Lynda Carter isn't going to come walking through the door but WW can make it.
If anyone needs to get the blame, it's the guys running the show by not thinking this out extensively. The WW II approach would be the safest way to introduce the character I agree.
Wonder Woman is as if not more popular than Catwoman & Elektra who, mind you, have both had several cancellations and rebirths comic book-wise. The thing that turns me off on the book is her demeanor - the cartoon incantation is much warmer & feminine (in a good way) compared to how the current writers are using her in the pages.
I do agree that female-led films are the ultimate turn-off for many viewers for many of the reasons you've aready brought up.
I wonder if she'll still do that turn thing? Then they bust out with the disco theme. ?:)

I never watch that show so I don't know if she can act, but lookswise she's definitely a thumbs up.
Plus a horse-like smile and baby teeth. Of course you picked one of the better pics... 8-)
