Ratner, Cameron...even Leterrier sounds more encouraging...
I'd really wish that Cameron got off of his Titanic high-horse already...he could possibly make the Superman sequel legendary.
Sorry Rogue but I think Cameron would be a terrible choice. After the first Terminator, I've found just about all of his other movies to be way too plodding, overblown and long winded.
Rattner on the other hand would probably be a very good choice as he can definitely make a slam bang action film. I also thought he did a fantastic job with Red Dragon.
But as of right now its Singer, so let's hope for the best.
The bad news:
Bryan Singer is still slated to direct and is "100% behind the project".
Not good at all. However I am much more concerned about whether Kevin 'my Luthor is so boring that I make a turtle seem energetic' Spacey will be returning.
Ratner, Cameron...even Leterrier sounds more encouraging...
I agree about Ratner and Cameron. I am less familiar with Leterrier (of his films, I've only seen the masterful Unleashed) and I'm not sure if he's capable of directing a big-budget superhero film like Superman. I do think that Ratner and, especially, Cameron could be amazing. Here's a thought; what about convincing Richard Donner to return? (Yes, he's in his 70's but he's still enormously talented. 16 Blocks a few years ago was terrific.)

The only thing that stops you from being on my hit list (due to your dislike of T2) is your appreciation for The Terminator. :v

Well it appears that the website for PUNISHER: War Zone is finally up and running.
B-) Looking good thus far.
Official Punisher: War Zone Site Launched
Source: Lionsgate March 12, 2008
Lionsgate has launched the official website for Punisher: War Zone, opening in theaters on September 12. Directed by Lexi Alexander (Green Street Hooligans), the action thriller stars Ray Stevenson, Dominic West, Doug Hutchinson, Colin Salmon, Wayne Knight, Dash Mihok and Julie Benz.
In the film, ruthless vigilante-hero Frank Castle sets his sights on overeager mob boss Billy Russoti. After Russoti is left horribly disfigured by Castle, he sets out for vengeance under his new alias: Jigsaw. With the "Punisher Task Force" hot on his trail and the FBI unable to take Jigsaw in, Frank must stand up to the formidable army that Jigsaw has recruited before more of his evil deeds go unpunished.
EmpireOnline has a brief interview with Bryan Singer in which he talks about the Superman Returns sequel. If nothing else, he seems aware that a lot of people were disappointed by the lack of action in the last one and seems intent on addressing that. We shal see...

Legion of Super Heroes is Ending
Source: James Harvey March 12, 2008
The World's Finest reports that this is the last season for Warner Bros. Animation's "Legion of Super Heroes." "Legion of Super Heroes" is currently wrapping up its second season, which will also be last season for the show. The site adds that Warner Bros. Animation is currently working on a new Batman team-up animated series and a host of direct-to-video DC Universe Animated Original Movie features.
I bleed DC red but this series was a terrible idea; the animation style sucked, the stories, lack of certain characters (MON-EL), etc...
I am glad that they are pulling the plug on this one.
As for the info that J.D. & Tony DP have posted, I really don't know what to make of it. In the past, I had heard that Norton could be forceful with his ideas/ideals but I don't know how much of it to believe on this article.
I respect an actor of his caliber giving his insight on a project like this if the objective is to put the best product out there possible but c'mon...he's paid to act and not horn in on what others are paid to do in their part on this.
This sounds similiar to what Thomas Jane was bumping heads with on the Punisher sequel...
I hope that this doesn't get nasty and hurt a film that many are already doubtful over.
And more than just the fans were barking at Singer's "romantic movie", the bigwigs at WB gave him a chewing out as well. I'm willing to give the man a second chance to redeem himself but he better do his homework...seriously. I realize I'm beating a dead horse here...
In this, Superman was a stalker, an unwed father and a homewrecker so how was SR a family movie? It sent out the wrong messages about such an iconic hero...and it's just Superman! He didn't even spit on a bad guy much less punch him. X-(
Even Mark Steven Johnson knows you can't direct a Supes movie without hard-hitting action. What was Singer thinking?

Please can they call it El Hombre Increible for the UK release. Oh go on, Please! ) I thought it looked quite entertaining. No Freudian daddy issues in this one. Just lots of action and a big green monster fighting another big monster.
EDIT. The Hulk looks much better this time around. He looked a bit simple last time. I mean even for a socially challenged monster, he looked really simple last time.

Edit: Okay despite Abombination looking different, I love that ending. Less Norton though...more Hulk. B-)
Wow, that really ... sucked. Don't mean to sound like a hater but I was not impressed at all. Way too much Ed Norton, William Hurt comes across as your typical one dimensional career army officer, the Abomination looks like the guy who stole Dr. Jekyll's formula in League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, and the Hulk looks positively silly - what's with that stupid face and the hair flowing in the wind? Are they trying to make him look handsome? I also think trying to sell the Hulk as some kind of a savior is really the wrong approach for the character; in all the years that I read the book he was never perceived that way. As for the ending of the trailer the only image that evoked was the teaser to Rocky 3.
I love that trailer. {[] If the film is as good as the trailer suggests, then I think it's going to be awesome!
Rogue; I love that we only saw the Hulk at the end. That is how it should be IMO. Tony, how can you compare this to Rocky 3? I liked Rocky 3, but that wasn't the only (or perhaps even first) film to feature two characters facing off against in slow motion.
Anyway, I'm really looking forward to this film. I'm a big fan of Norton (he's one of my favourite actors and I consider him to be the greatest actor of his generation) but I think this trailer is truly superb.

Sorry Dan, but that's the image I got. The way the approached each other, the way they lunged, and then cutting away as their fists are about to meet. Rocky 3 may have not been the first one to do that, but its the one that stands out the most and this looked so much like it to me. I also noticed a lot of other people commenting on the similarity on other boards I frequent.
Anyway, I'm really looking forward to this film. I'm a big fan of Norton (he's one of my favourite actors and I consider him to be the greatest actor of his generation) but I think this trailer is truly superb.
Maybe that's my problem right there. I've never been much of an Ed Norton fan. I liked him in Red Dragon, but other than that, I always find his delivery to be the same - whether he plays a good guy or bad guy. Also, in the clips from the teaser I never see any of the desperation that I associated with Bruce Banner over his plight.
I also have to say that the CG looked pretty bad to me; obviously they still have a few months to continue work on it. But the characters look obviously fake to me (and the heads are way out of proportion to the body) and after all the hoopla about how a CG Hulk had been so disappointing last time, I'm surprised they went down the same route.
Equally surprising is the fact that, based on these clips at least, the Hulk is again around 15 feet tall; his size in the last movie was an issue with the fanboys and it looks like they ignored that again this time.
After the thoughtful and intelligent movie Ang Lee put forth and the way he tried to make all the characters more three dimensional, conflicted and believable, this all just looks corny to me.
Agreed. That trailer isn't doing anything for me. I'm one who actually enjoyed the CGI hulk on the first one, (but that was about all). It was handled well and didn't bring back bad memories of 'Dobby the house-elf'
In fact, the CGI in this one really reminds me a lot of the last one, which may turn around and bite the producers if people perceive this as being a direct sequel.

You don't know how many times I've had to defend myself for praising the '03 version for these very reasons. I still love that one.
I've tried to find good things about this new teaser; it's not bad IMO...it's just put together poorly. I fear that we'll get more Norton/Banner than we will see Hulk just from this snippet. I don't want to see more Norton.
Like Tony, I think they'll polish up the CGI a little more or at least I hope that they do because Hulk looked like an action figure with his waxy residue... Personally I'd have wished they given Hulk more of a Frankenstein type haircut like some comics render it; my son and I think that his hair looks a little weird from this aspect.
I really liked the Rocky 3 type end to it where they're running down a ravaged Harlem street. A little cliched I know but pretty cool and I cannot wait to see the actual fight...
I just wasn't pumped after seeing it like I was The Dark Knight one. Hopefully, enough lukewarm reponses to it will make the studio revamp the advertising somewhat for the full trailer.

Blame it on our ADD-addled society. I was perusing some of the comments to the trailer on AICN and while the ravings of those fanboys are by no means a yardstick for measuring anything, it was amusing to see how many people commented on how much they like the last movie and how this appeared lacking compared to it.
I think the 2003 Hulk has a healthy following and I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the backlash against it can be traced back to Universal in some misguided attempt to make this version seem better.

That's my fear as well and I wonder if that's the bone of contention between Norton and the filmmakers. I'm also still not convinced Norton's the best man to play Banner. Name recognition aside, his delivery always sounds whiny to me. While that may have worked with the sleazeball he played in The Italian Job, it doesn't quite gel with Bruce Banner, a brilliant scientist.

The face and hair seem all wrong to me. The body's proportions also don't seem right; he seems too tall and not broad enough. The head also seems too small for the body.
I just wasn't pumped after seeing it like I was The Dark Knight one. Hopefully, enough lukewarm reponses to it will make the studio revamp the advertising somewhat for the full trailer.
Even after all my ravings against TDK, the trailer won me over and made me curious to see the movie. Can't say the same for Hulk. And again, if you go by the talkback on AICN, reaction has been lukewarm at best.
Just out of curiosity Rogue, what to your Marvel Acolytes think of it? The viewpoints of a couple of die hard Marvel fans would be interesting to hear.

All three, including the fanboy in my household, loved it. They all felt that it was promising despite having a few issues with either Norton or the CGI but the co-workers assured me that this will be bigger than Batman.
That's a heckuva prediction to make. )
The more I watch the teaser, the more Norton irritates me somehow; he just may not be right for Bruce Banner but I did see alot of references to the Ultimate universe Hulk. That Dr. Banner is a bit more hopeless and cowering and his alter-ego is definetely more destructive than the traditional one not caring if his tirades leave casualties in his wake.
The falling out of the helicopter part was swiped from an Ult. Avengers comic book where Captain America threw Banner from a chopper to make him change against his will.
I'm going to hold out hope that it can only get better for this because IMO, the character is so awesome so we shall see where it leads...
Here's an article that came out from Empire after the teaser's release:
Louis Leterrier on The Incredible Hulk
" [We released the trailer quite late because] no shots are finished yet. That’s why we took so long to release the teaser, because unlike the other movies coming out this summer, our main character relies on so much calculation and technique. None of the shots in this trailer are finished shots, but I think it’s decent enough and it shows the audience what we’re going for. There’s a different version of the teaser that will only be shown in movie theatres where you see a close-up of the Hulk’s face as he comes out of the darkness and cries to [Betty]. A full close-up, like full-screen. And until we had that shot right I didn’t want to release it. That’s why it took so long for us…I never saw that Superbowl spot [that drew criticism of Ang Lee’s film for showing Hulk unfinished]. I’ve asked for it and they’ve said, “No, no, you don’t want to see that.” (Laughs) Anyway, I would have never allowed anything to come out that I wasn’t happy with."
I'm actually a bit underwhelmed by the trailer perhaps it was just too over hyped. Is it me or does the hulk look a bit manga-ish around the face? that narrow chin and hair
I'm actually a bit underwhelmed by the trailer perhaps it was just too over hyped. Is it me or does the hulk look a bit manga-ish around the face? that narrow chin and hair
No. Well not really. I think that he's more ripped than Ang Lee's version but not polished enough.
Reading message boards all over yesterday, I had no idea that fans thought of Lee's Hulk as "chubby" and cartoonish because of the lighter shade of green. He looked fine to me so go figure.
As for the trailer, there are mixed reviews here and there...I just feel that it was either a rushed attempt or poorly done.
One thing that I've noticed, when the behemoths are charging one another down the street, shouldn't the cars alongside be bouncing up and down at every vibrating step they take? They're just still as if there's no effect. I mean these are big guys; maybe I'm nitpicking...
I also noticed on the official website that they have a subtle rendition of the old tv show's musical theme. Nice touch.

Man, talk about drinking the cool-aid.
There's a guy at my office who is a really serious comics fan (he's a security guard and since ours is a quiet court het gets to spend a lot of his day reading comics ... nice job, but I digress). Anyhow, he saw the trailer last night and was completely underwhelmed as well. His final comment was, tellingly, "I'll probably wait for the DVD".

Here's a link to a rough synopsis for the film and that the final battle between Hulk and Abombination could last within the timeframe of a half hour. For me, that alone is worth going to see; I may come out cursing how bad it is afterwards but that's the chance I'll take... B-)
I mean afterall, superheroes in movies should at least actually HIT something. :v
Say what you will about the teaser but one thing that Leterrier is good at doing and that's action. I'm still going to see this but they've got to put a more attractive trailer together before June.

I mean afterall, superheroes in movies should at least actually HIT something. :v

Say what you will about the teaser but one thing that Leterrier is good at doing and that's action. I'm still going to see this but they've got to put a more attractive trailer together before June.

Cool. I hope they use it in the film.
) Apparently you haven't been reading my posts on this subject, Dan. I am going to see this movie; I love The Incredible Hulk so it goes without saying. However, speaking for my counterpart, comic book comrade, I cannot speak for him. We sort of have this Siskel & Ebert thing on stuff like this as it is... )
I mean I paid FULL FARE for the atrocity that was Ghost Rider (whose look was the only cool thing about the entire project) starring a gereatric Nic Cage & his Elvis mannerisms because I'm a comic fan. We all know how Tony feels about that one... :v
All I said was that the Hulk trailer wasn't energizing enough to warrant excitement from me; it was subpar at best so it'll be shame on me if I pay to see this and it's utter garbage. Personally, I think it will be good... enough if not a summer blockbuster.
I think that it's safe to say that it won't be as bad as Corman's F.F. teeth-puller. 8-)

Siskel and Ebert eh? Well, in that case, the Incredible Hulk trailer gets a...
Greatest. Movie. Ever. ) ( I'm surprised you also didn't take a shot at Daredevil {:) ).
There is no guarantee that I'll be seeing the Hulk. My brother HATES Edward Norton so the movie will have to get some pretty positive reviews to get him to check it out. Then again, I could unload my secret weapon and remind him that I sat thru Casino Royale with him and now he owes me one. :v
Today is the first time I had a chance to look at this site.
OK Rogue, I know you love the Punisher and want this film to be good, and so do I, but I've got to say, Ray Stephenson isn't looking too good to me. I don't know if its the lighting or makeup or what, but he looks really old. And what's with that giant collar?
Lionsgate also really pulled out all the stops on the website, generously giving us two pictures that we've already seen. 8-)
